Vampire orWitches: Witches would be my choice. One of my favorite Halloween costumes when I was a kid was when I went as a witch!
Souror Chocolate: Unfortunately, I have quite the sweet tooth, so chocolate all the way!
ApplesorPumpkins: Uh…how many pumpkins is too many pumpkins? The only way I know how to decorate for fall is to just put out more pumpkins!
TrickorTreat: See above when I said I have a sweet tooth. Definitely treat! I have a candy stash at school for my students, and I try to be good and not treat myself too often.
Snickersor Kit Kat: Honestly, I love both, but I do love a Snickers….especially if it’s been in the fridge.
Scary Movies orScary Books: Scary books over scary movies for sure. I love a good thriller!
Costume orGraphic Tee: How about both? Graphic tee (or sweatshirt) for me, and costumes for the kids.
I just purchased this sweatshirt recently from EverlyGrayce Etsy Shop, and I love it. I wore it last Friday to school, and got so many compliments. You can’t be the price tag either!
Costumes for the kids through the years…
Chilior Soup: Again, both! But if I had to choose, then chili. I make chili pretty often whether it’s the Major’s chili or Chicken Chili.
CasperorHocus Pocus: While I like both movies, Casper is so cute!
SkittlesorSour Patch Kids: My kids love Sour Patch Kids, and now I do too. They get them pretty often, and I always ask for a few!

Hello! With September wrapping up and October right around the corner, I’m sharing the fall decorations at my house!
I think this is my favorite post of the year!
October 1st is like my Christmas morning. It’s seriously one of my favorite days of the year because it starts my favorite month! October is full of fun and no stressful holidays. We go to football games, the pumpkin patch, eat apple cider donuts, enjoy the wonderful weather and so much more.
My fall decorating style could best be described as “pumpkin, pumpkins and more pumpkins.” I’m the Oprah of pumpkins! …and if the pumpkins light up, that’s a bonus! 🤣
This year, I only purchased a few new things, but otherwise, this post is probably pretty similar to what I shared last year!
Front Porch:
My front porch is my favorite place to decorate for fall. When we purchased this home in September of 2014, I remember thinking how fun it would be to decorate with pumpkins and mums. I think I add more each year 😉
I’ve had the door hanger for years, and purchased it on Etsy. The doormat is a few years old, and I believe I got it at JC Penney. Lastly, a few pumpkins on our little porch table are so fun. The teal stand was something I picked up at Hobby Lobby last week.
I purchased these fall pillow covers (pack of 4) off Amazon after I realized how torn up my previous fall pillows were after six or seven years on our porch during the fall months.
Ta da! It was a pleasant surprise to tie the black and white checkered rug with the new pillows and W garden flag.
I usually purchase mums from the Mum Man who comes to Trav’s work, but I couldn’t resist the smaller yellow ones in the cute half peck baskets from Trader Joe’s. Then, I purchased larger mums that I put in the planters from the kids’ school. I picked up the shock top at Fresh Market.
As I previously shared, the pumpkins came from Kroger, Trader Joe’s, and my favorite garden center.
I really love how it turned out.
Entryway:
I keep it pretty simple on the hall entryway table. Some pumpkins, some fall faux flowers, and a tea light holder that I’ve had for years.
Living Room:
In the living room, I have one of my favorite light up (plug in) pumpkins. I also add the wooden pumpkin to where I usually have a candle.
I have the same pumpkin pillows that I purchased at Target last year.
I switch out my usual white candle for this orange one, add little pumpkins on our built in and switch out some of the decorative basket items for a few pumpkins. The orange, white, and green pumpkins came in a pack I picked up at Hobby Lobby.
This new round tray from Target is perfect for our coffee table with my favorite light up pumpkin from Michael’s that I got last year. This year, I picked up a fall berry candle wreath to put on the pedestal with a Bath and Body Works candle. This is where I sit most mornings and love the candle and glow of the pumpkin.
Office:
In our office area, I just switch out our usual pillows for the “Morning Pumpkin” pillows that one of my former students made me a few years ago. I also added a silver pumpkin to the table between the chairs.
Kitchen:
In the kitchen, I put this cute pillow on one of our chairs. I also added my pumpkin sign to the holder that usually has a cookbook in it. Lastly, I added a few small pumpkins and gourds to my fruit stand.
This year, I put a candle from Trader Joe’s in the spoon rest on my island tray. I love lighting it while I cook dinner!
This year, I changed up the kitchen table center piece. I purchased this runner from Amazon. Then, I moved in the long tray that usually sits on our coffee table, and kept some of our essentials on it like napkins and the salt and pepper. Then, I added a few more small pedestals from Hobby Lobby and mixed in some more small pumpkins and gourds. I picked up the melamine plates at Target a few years ago.
I’ve had this buffet in this location before, but recently it’s been against another wall. I decided to move it back over to its original spot for the fall season.
I basically set up the buffet exactly like I did last year with the burlap pumpkins on the cake stand, the white light up pumpkin, my favorite little pumpkin plates in the cabinet with a few other festive decorations.
Like in the front room, I switched out my white candles for these burnt orange colored ones. I added the pumpkin garland that I think I picked up last year. This year, I did purchase new leaf garland at Michael’s. I’d been using the same garland for over ten years, and it was just time for something new. Last year, I hammered two nails into the mantle to string the pumpkins. Much to my surprise, the leaf garland was able to hook on to the nails too! Perfect!
Sun room:
I don’t think I did much in the sun room last year besides add some fall items on the tray. This year, I put the pumpkin pillows that I typically use in the basement for the sun room couch and used the other two pillow covers from the Amazon four pack for the chairs.
I added a Bath and Body candle (from last year!) to the tray with a metallic pumpkin that I picked up at Target.

I think last year was the first year I hung this wreath on the back door, and it’s so pretty.
I snapped this photo on Saturday. The morning was unexpectedly dreary, and I was tired. While sipping my coffee, I looked up and smiled at the view. It’s the little things!
Bedroom:
I only have one touch of fall in our bedroom. Like I mentioned before, I loved the living room pumpkin so much I picked another one up last year for the bedroom. I love falling asleep to the glow of this gorgeous pumpkin.
It may seem like a lot and so much to do, but it’s worth it for me. I’m a home body, and while I love a lit Christmas tree, the coziness of my fall decor is good for my soul. I feel like I can enjoy these decorations for a few months rather than a few weeks! We’ve had some unexpected extra time at home for the past week, and in the chaos of life, it’s been good for me to light a fall scented candle and enjoy the glow of a pumpkin or two!
(Bonus: all the decorations fit into one big tub and one zip up storage bag for the pillows!…that way Travis can’t grumble too much when I need help lugging them up from the basement 😉)

Hello! Well, yesterday was a soggy day with cooler temps, and it actually felt like fall! That kind of weather is perfect for my post today! Since it’s the third Tuesday of the month, I’m linking up with Ashley and Erika for this month’s Tuesday Talk.
This is me…
Fall is my favorite time of the year! From the cooler temps to the leaves on the trees changing to it getting dark earlier (I know, I’m weird!) to sweater weather and more, I just love fall.
I follows @ashton.creates on Instagram, and I’ve shared some of her graphics in previous posts. The fall bucket list stopped me in my tracks. So many fun things in one spot!
Today, I’m sharing my family’s Fall Fun List. Now to be clear, I made the list…They will have to go along for the fun!
UK football games and tailgating: We are already off to a good start on this one. We went to the MU/UK game a couple of weeks ago, and we’ll go to other games as we can. Travis and Hayden usually go to most of the UK football games….Hadley likes the tailgating part!
Pumpkin Patch: That’s one of my favorite traditions, and I’m sure we will find a Saturday to go in October. The kids always pick out their pumpkins to carve and we snag a pack (or two!) of the apple cider donuts.
Halloween and pumpkin carving: The kids are getting older, but they still have a couple years left of trick-or-treating. I’m not sure what they will be this year, but Hadley mentioned being and angel and devil with a friend or be a cow girl. Hayden will probably throw on a sports uniform and call it a day. We always carve pumpkins and sometimes do so with our neighbors. Again, my kids are getting older (#sigh), but the carving tradition will carry on somehow.
Fire pit/s’mores: The kids had this on their summer list, but we never got to it. An autumn fire pit sounds like a better idea to me anyway.
Visit Ginkgo tree lane: Last year, since we were still doing virtual school, we took a recess break to walk down a road here in Lexington that looks like the yellow brick road once the leaves fall. I hope to by there again this year.
Hike: Honestly, our weekends are so busy and I’m not yet sure of our fall break plans (if any), but I love a hike on a cool autumn day when the leaves are changing colors. I guess time will tell if we get this one done or not.
Make chili: My kids (especially Hadley) could eat chili every day! It’s one of my favorite things to make because it’s such a great comfort food and the leftovers are even better.
There are other things we like to do like check out the carved pumpkins at Transy, see the horses race at Keeneland, go to Oktoberfest and more! Hopefully, we can make most of these things happen.

Watching footballor Watching holiday movies: I love football in the fall. To be honest, I love the socializing at tailgates part of football. We go to many home UK football games during the season, and we’ve been tailgating in the same spot for years. Actually, it’s the same spot Travis and his crew have tailgated at since college. It’s always so fun to see friends during the season and celebrate a CATS win. That being said, once it gets cold, I tend to stay home, and Hayden and Travis go to the games. I prefer holiday movies at Christmastime.
Carving pumpkinsor Painting pumpkins: I for sure prefer pumpkin carving. Travis and I have been carving pumpkins since we started dating (I guess because I used to carve pumpkins when I was a kid, and the tradition as lived on). Now, the kids are old enough to carve their own pumpkins which is a huge rite of passage! We didn’t do it last fall, but often times our neighbors get together and carve in someone’s front yard. The kids always have so much fun, and the parents do all the carving. 😆
Hot chocolate or Hot tea: I’ve tried to be a tea drinker, but I’m not. I do love a hot chocolate when it’s cold, but I actually love a warm apple cider in the fall. Hadley’s the queen of drinking hot chocolate. One of her friends hosted a hot chocolate party last winter. It was so cute and a fun experience for all.

Warm sweaters or Cozy flannels:I actually have a few cozy flannel shirts, but I love an oversized sweater.

Haunted housesor Scary movies: Does It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown count as spooky? 😂 I definitely don’t like haunted houses, and I will watch a scary movie; it’s just not my preference.
Pumpkin patches or Corn mazes: I’m for sure Team Pumpkin Patch. Again, it’s another tradition that we have. We’ve been taking the kids since they were babies.
Going to the orchard for apple cider (the drink and donuts!) and to pick our carving pumpkins is my most favorite tradition.
Caramel apples or Candy corn: I do like candy corn, but much prefer it in a mix like with peanuts or mixed with cereal and M&Ms.
Pumpkin spiceorSalted caramel: I do like pumpkin spice. I get a pump of pumpkin syrup in my coffee at Starbucks, or will add pumpkin pie spice to my coffee at home with creamer.
Pumpkin pie, cookies and bread are also my favorites.
Fall is my fave. Can you tell?!
What is your favorite thing about fall?
Our temps have cooled off this week thanks to some rain, and I’m loving it. I’m sure we will have another heat wave soon, so I will enjoy this weather while I can.
Hello! Today is a special day here on Show Me and Sweet Tea! It’s my two year blogiversary! Sometimes, it feels like I’ve been blogging for years and other times it feels like I’ve only just begun…
I’d been wanting to start a blog for a few years, and on August 4, 2019, I finally published my first post.
Now, 400+ posts later, I’m so glad that I did. This has been a fun creative outlet for me, and I’ve “met” so many great people along the way! I’m very thankful for my loyal readers!
I thought I’d take a look back on a few of my favorite posts that I wrote throughout the year.
In no particular order, here they are:
1. Lexington Top 5:
I shared some of my favorite things about Lexington from restaurants to activities and more!
My kids wrapped up their 5th grade year finally in the classroom. I took a look back on their amazing elementary experience. Middle school starts next week!
We spent a few days in South Carolina this summer which is one of our favorite places to visit. I recapped that trip which includes all that we did along with some of my favorite photos of the summer.
Of course, I’ve enjoyed writing all of my posts (or why would I write them? ;), but these were just a few meaningful ones that stuck out to me over the past year.

Hello! How was your week? I can’t believe we are in the full swing of July! Up next will be school supply displays. Actually, I think they are already out…but I just close my eyes when I see the words “back to School!”
Anyway, as always, I’m linking up with Andrea and Erika for this week’s Friday Favorites.
My first favorite for the week:
My traditional red, white, and blue waffles for the 4th! I made them for the kids, and I even had one! So good.
We had a great 4th of July. I spent most of the day unpacking from vacation and going to the grocery store. Travis took the kids to the pool for a few hours in the afternoon. We had steaks for dinner and watched fireworks at our favorite spot.
Then, we shot off a few fireworks and sparklers before heading to bed.
The 4th of July has always been one of my favorite holidays.
Another favorite for the week was Travis didn’t work on Monday, so we decided to celebrate his birthday a couple of days early. We went out to lunch at one of our favorite places and then went bowling at the new Lex Live. We had lots of fun.
We had cookie cake on Tueday (a day early) because we all barely even saw each other on his birthday (Wednesday) because I was with Hadley at her swim meet while Hayden and Travis were at baseball. Anyway, our neighbor bakes cookies and cookie cakes, so I ordered one for Trav’s birthday.
I laugh every time I look at this photo because Homer was desperate to be included in the pic…or maybe he just wanted to get near the cake! (Remember when he ate our anniversary cookie cake last year?! 😂 )
We did presents and cake eating Tuesday evening when Hadley got home from dance.
The cookie cake was so good! The buttercream icing was the best part.
Hadley’s final swim meet of the season was another favorite of the week. She swam her fastest times of the season in all strokes.
I was a bit hesitant about the 8:45 practices during the summer, but with the help of other swim parents, we’ve carpooled and made it work. It’s been a big adjustment after not swimming last summer and now she moved up an age group and swims 50’s. I’m proud of her commitment and determination. Hadley proved that you show up to the things you love…and donut days on Thursdays! 😉

Today, Trav and I are celebrating our 16th wedding anniversary. Y’all, S I X T E E N years is hard to believe! Time sure does continue to fly by!
It’s also hard to believe that it’s already almost the end of June which means it’s time for this month’s Monthly Musings post.

This month’s topic is End of School and Summer Plans. Believe it or not, we’ve been out of school for over a month, so we are definitely in full summer mode over here!
1. Last Day of School Traditions:
While I have lots of traditions to begin the school year like Back to School Breakfast, a book to start the year, first day of school photos, walking to school and more, we don’t have many last day of school traditions. The kids let me take a last day of school pic, and that’s about it. I also get a photo of them in front of school on the first and last day. (I’m not sure they will let me do a photo in front of their middle school next year) 😩
2. Summer List:
We made our Summer Fun list a couple of weeks ago, and we’ve been able to cross a few things off the list!
3. Vacation Plans:
While we typically go to Florida for summer vacation, South Carolina is another favorite summer vacay spot for us. We are heading there soon.
4. Summer Outfits:
If I’m not in workout clothes, I’m usually in a swimsuit and coverup at the pool. I do like to wear light weight dresses as well as…
shorts and a tank or t-shirt.
These shorts from Target are a favorite! I have them in green, pink and black.
And…I’ve shared about my favorite Amazon swimsuit and cover up a couple of times this summer.
I recently shared some quick dinner ideas. During the summer months, we grill out a lot and have baked beans, pasta salad or fruit as side dishes. Quick, easy, and light meals.
6. End of School:
We are usually scheduled to be out of school around Memorial Day. Some years, we go past Memorial Day if we have snow days to make up. That being said, our district seems to do whatever it takes (like adding time to the end of the day) to ensure we are out by May 31st. We occasionally get out rather early, like this year…we were out May 18th which was amazing!
When I was a kid, I feel like we were out around Memorial Day, but didn’t start back until after Labor Day. I wish it was like that now as well!
7. Swimsuit Type:
I used to love a tankini but the past few summers, I’ve really embraced the one piece. I just feel more comfortable in them, and there are so many awesome options in fun patterns and stylish designs.
I’m not sure what our plans will be. I always start the 4th of July off with red, white, and blue waffles for the kids! Sometimes, we go to the pool or the parade downtown. We usually grill out with family or friends or sometimes just our family of four.
We always get a few firecrackers and sparklers for the kids. Then, every year, we make our way to our favorite spot to watch fireworks. The 4th of July has always been one of my favorite holidays.
9. Red, White, and Blue Clothes:
I’ve always put the kids in some kind of red, white, and blue! Sometimes, Travis and I will do so as well.
They usually let me take a photo or two 😉
This is one of my favorite family photos of the four of us…July 2015. We were settling in to watch the fireworks, and we all were dressed in some form of red, white, and blue.
10. Charcoal or Gas Grill:
We have a gas grill, and Travis does all the grilling!
He typically uses this platter for the food that my mom painted for him in 2003! It’s basically an antique!

Hey! How’s your week going? Ours is off to a good start. We had crazy rain on Monday and then yesterday was crazy cool with only a high of 70. I think the rest of the week looks pretty normal with warmer temps. So, the kids had some lazy afternoon time on Monday, but yesterday I kicked them out of the house and told them to go find their friends!
Anyway, today I’m sharing how we celebrated Travis for Father’s Day. My dad was in town last week, so we grilled out when he was here, and I sent him a CD that he was wanting.
Of course, our Father’s Day weekend was dictated by baseball. Hayden’s Saturday games got rained out, but they scrimmaged another team on our fields for a few hours Saturday afternoon. Once we got the tournament schedule for Sunday, and it seemed like we could be at the ball park all day, we decided to celebrate on Saturday night when we knew we’d have more time to do so.
After we cleaned up from the scrimmage games, we headed out to dinner.
We ate at Agave and Rye where we ordered chips and all the dips. Travis had a margarita and I prickly pear marg with sugar on the rim. Sooo good. We all tried different tacos, and they were delish as well.
Then, we headed to a new milkshake place in town called Cattywampus Station. There’s another location in a town nearby that we’d never been to, so we were excited to try this one that just opened in Lex. Milkshakes are their specialty!
Just look!
We got the cookies and cream as well as a Reese’s cup one! They are quite impressive. Yes, that’s a regular sized cupcake on the milkshake, and then there’s a brownie on top of the other milkshake.
We did take of the cupcake and brownie and put them in a “to go” box to have later. Then, we shared the milkshakes. They were so good.
Afterwards, the kids fed the ducks at the nearby pond, and took a couple of Father’s Day photos with Trav.
We headed home to watch some of the Olympic Track and Field trials! We all love watching the Olympic coverage.
Sunday morning, Travis and Hayden headed out very early for the first game. I hung back to let Hadley sleep in. Since we didn’t know what time we’d be home, we went ahead and set out Trav’s gifts (a couple of shirts, a few Harry’s products (shave cream and hair gel), and a Kova Bluetooth speaker set) for him to open whenever we got home.
Hadley and I made it in time for the 1:30 game. Well, the Crush kept on winning after losing their first game on Sunday. They played three games on Sunday to make it to the championship game against a team they lost to in the Saturday scrimmage and on Sunday morning.
But….the Crush jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first inning, and ended up winning 9-7!
The boys were so excited to earn their tournament championship rings.
They had a great day full of games, hard work, team work, prayers and popsicles!
Hayden couldn’t quit smiling! Their determination paid off.
After 12+ hours at the ballpark, we were hot, sweaty, and tired, but all the dads agreed that it was the best Father’s Day present to see their boys come out on top!
We didn’t get home until after 9:00, so we picked up Jimmy John’s for dinner followed by the dessert Hadley made: Amy’s Lemon Freezer Pie.
She made it Saturday afternoon because we just weren’t sure what time we’d have on Sunday. It must have sloshed around a bit when we shut the freezer drawer because it looked a little lopsided when we got it out on Sunday night. It still tasted delish. I add a dollop of Cool Whip on top of each slice when serving.
Trav’s the best! The love and support he shows the kids are beyond measure. He’s there for anything from homework help to baseball practices to dance recitals and all the moments in between.
I know he had a great day (weekend!), and we had so much fun celebrating him!
Hello and Happy Friday! We’re in the midst of the craziness of May. On top of school and regular activities, the end of the school year field day, teacher gifts, 5th grade graduation prep (and more!) is ongoing.
We have so much to celebrate in the upcoming days, so I’m embracing the busyness, and trying to enjoy these moments as we wrap up the school year and ease into summer.

Hayden’s baseball team is on a roll. They’ve won six of their last seven games.
He’s had a couple games this week, and Hayden pitched on Monday night and did a great job.

Cards are my favorite! One from Hayden, one from Hadley, and one from both!
Church and then…
brunch which was delicious.
Along with the cards and my hanging ferns for the front porch, Travis had these planters made which was a pleasant surprise.
Another favorite from the week was that we were able to get our backyard flowers planted. I also love this new riser that I picked up at the At Home store.
The kids both brought home their clay projects from art class. I will miss all the artwork and projects of elementary school.

Field day is always a fave. Hadley’s class helped the younger kids on Wednesday, and she had so much fun. The older kids had field day yesterday. Again, another thing we’ll miss about elementary school.
I have a couple of Amazon finds that I love. This shirt and sandals arrived last week, and I wore the combo to school. I’ve also already worn the shirt with jeans to go out to dinner, and I’ve worn the sandals a few other days as well.

Easter looked a bit different this year, but more “normal” than last year.
On Saturday, the kids dyed Easter eggs. We did the “classic” egg dye, but Hadley tried a tie dye egg decorating kit. It was kind of a mess, and I didn’t have high hopes with the final product, but they turned out a pretty purple color! I love this tradition, and I hope that we can keep it up forever!
Finished products…
Trav’s aunt usually hosts Easter, but, like last year, the extended family didn’t get together. This year, we hosted some of Trav’s immediate family at our house yesterday.
During the day, I prepped for Easter lunch. I ran a couple of errands, set the table, and made dessert, and stuffed the Easter eggs for Sunday’s egg hunt.
I made Chocolate Graham Cracker Pudding which is a family fave.
For the tables, I tried to mostly use what I had around the house. TJ Maxx did save the day as I needed a couple more white plates. (and then still borrowed a couple more from a friend!)
Last year, I traced a bunny to add to napkin rings for our family of four place setting. This year, I decided to trace more bunnies, and I bought laminating paper at Target which was so easy to use. Hadley helped me hot glue the cotton balls on to the bunnies and put them on the napkin rings, and they turned out so cute.
While at Target, I picked up a plastic table cloth for the kids’ table and a few more cloth napkins for the main table. Trader Joe’s had the perfect flowers for the table centerpiece.

Now that the bunnies are laminated, I can really save them and use them in the future.
I like to try to use what I have, and sometimes I move things around. The wooden tray on the kitchen table is what usually sits on the living room coffee table. The white stand on the kids’ table is what is usually on the kitchen island. Anyway, I was pleased with how everything turned out especially because I was able to use mostly things I already had and I was working on a time crunch.
Saturday night, the kids put out their eggs for the Easter Bunny to hide them, per tradition.
Sunday morning, the kids enjoyed their Easter baskets, gifts from us, and found all the dyed eggs that the Easter Bunny hid.
We headed to our church for the first time in over a year. Easter service is so special, but especially this year being reunited with our congregation.

After lunch, we had the traditional egg hunt. The younger kids (my two and their two cousins) found all the eggs we hid. They were filled with candy and with money.
**Of course there’s a Homer story…He was pretty well-behaved considering all of the people who were in and out throughout the afternoon. After the egg hunt, apparently Homer was left unattended with the leftover turkey…so he ended up having quite the feast!
We enjoyed the beautiful weather and desserts before everyone left in late afternoon. Then, it was time to prep for school starting back!
Easter Sunday was a great way to wrap up our Spring Break.
