Let’s Look

Hello!

It’s already the second Wednesday of the month, so I’m linking up with Shay and Erika for this month’s edition of Let’s Look.

So far this year, we’ve looked at...

  • How we clean our closets in January
  • Little things we do every single day in February
  • What’s in our grocery cart in March
  • Our daily time/prayer time in April
  • Our summer closet staples in May
  • Our summer schedule in June
  • Podcasts and shows we binge in July
  • What’s in our pantry in August (I don’t have a pantry, so I skipped that one)
  • Our quick weeknight dinners in September
  • How we prep for the holiday season in October

This month’s topic is…let’s look at...gift ideas for men.

I always tell Travis that he is hard to buy for…or that I end up buying him the same things year to year.

For Christmas, I usually get him some kind of apparel…so at least I start there! He will usually give me a couple of gift ideas too. When the kids were little, I felt like I could buy more meaningful things like a coffee mug with their hand prints.

Travis usually receives practical gifts, but I do think that’s what he wants.

Last year, I got him this trunk organizer because he always has a lot to keep up with whether it’s for cross country or work. It’s worked perfectly in his car.

There are horse sales in January and February, so every few years, I order him some type of hand warmers; this rechargeable two pack is what I got him last year for his stocking.

I’ve given him a fun coffee mug or travel mug because he usually ends up losing his travel mug from time to time.

He really loved these insulated beer mugs that we gave him a couple of years ago. He keeps them in the freezer for when he’s ready for an ice cold beer.

These running shorts were a win!

I don’t know how we survived the baseball years not having this wagon, but I got this for Trav a couple of years ago, and it’s come in handy for cross country meets.

This massage gun was something I thought Trav would love when I bought it three years ago, and he does love it. Hayden uses it the most, and it’s usually in his back pack on race days.

I bought the “Battery Daddy” and we still use it. As soon as I buy a new pack of batteries, I put them in this to keep them organized.

Shopping for stockings is fun and somewhat easier. We always get each other Starbucks gift cards…haha, and I usually buy him some candy, socks, and usually something for electronics like new charging cables, or portable charger. One year, I got him this travel case to hold all the electronic things we need when we travel.

Let me know if you have any great gift ideas that I can add to my list when I get started with my shopping. Now that I’ve typed this out, I feel like Trav is getting the “short end of the stick” in the gift receiving department!

Bloganuary 1.6.24 -Gifts

Hello and happy Saturday!

I hope your weekend is off to a great start.

One of the Bloganuary topics this week was:

I wrote this Let’s Look post a couple of years ago about Love Languages.

“Acts of service” continues to be the best gift I can receive…especially from my immediate household. haha

I still really appreciate help picking up, doing the laundry, unloading the dishwasher, etc.

Taking things off my plate is definitely the best gift I could receive.

As far as other gifts…

To be clear, I have everything I need. I don’t need material things. Of course, I appreciate the gesture and thoughtfulness of receiving a gift, but I tend to buy what I need.

That being said, I love cards. I’ve always appreciated a card, a written note, a sticky note saying “Have a great day” and more.

Travis is known for his “bubble letters” which I love.

I don’t get flowers very often, but I do love them!

Kind of like with the cards, I appreciate sentimental gifts…

Sorry to mention it again, but these pics of the kids were my favorite Christmas gift this year. They were such a lovely surprise, and they were perfect!

A few years ago, Travis gave me this burlap print with our address and the year we moved into this house. It’s not anything I would have asked for, but it’s an example of something thoughtful that I see every day and love.

I also really love traditions like receiving two hanging ferns for the front porch as my Mother’s Day gift.

We went to Julep Farm because Trav gave me a gift card to the restaurant there. An “experience” is always a thoughtful gift.

The gift of self-care is always nice.

Years ago, Travis gave me a gift card to the med spa where I now go monthly for my facials. I appreciate having that 45 minutes to an hour every month to take care of myself.

He’s also given me gift cards for manicures/pedicures which I can always use.

Last year for my birthday, Travis gave me a gift card for a massage. Again, that’s not something I typically buy for myself, so I appreciate him “forcing” me to take a break and relax.

This year for Christmas another one of my gifts came in a cute gift bag…gift cards for a massage, dinner out, and a night at a hotel. It was all very thoughtful and unexpected.

Travis and the kids taking the time to think about me and tell me I can take a break and have some time for myself is beyond thoughtful.

So, the gift of self-care really is appreciated!

What’s the greatest gift you could receive?

I will have another post tomorrow — I’m sharing my recent Amazon purchases…buckle up!

Bloganuary 1.15.23

Hello! I hope you had a great Saturday. I sure did. It was a pretty lowkey regular Saturday with some birthday fun last night. More on that later this week.

Yesterday, I wrote about books that have changed my life

One of this week’s Bloganuary prompts asked about memorable gifts.

Here are a few:

First of all, I’m spoiled because Travis is a great gift giver. I give him gloves and handwarmers for when he works outside. He gets me photos of the kids. *sigh*

The first thing that popped into my mind was for our first Christmas as a married couple, I opened a little blue box from Tiffanys —he’d gotten me silver heart earrings. I still wear them and love them.

While I was pregnant with the kids, I remember feeling miserable and sitting in the chair with my feet propped up on the ottoman. He came in with a gift bag. I opened it, and it was a David Yurman bracelet. I swear I’m not fussy about jewelry, but I appreciate that he’s given me things that are timeless and I wear often.

The first Christmas we lived in this house, he gave me this sign that now hangs by our front door. It has our last name (obviously) and our address with Est. 20014 because that’s when we moved in.

When the kids were in 3rd grade, I opened up the sweetest pic of them (and a few others). This one sits on our mantel. I had no clue that he’d has these photos taken.

We are lucky because Trav’s brother is an exceptional photographer! I cried when I saw these. (And then laughed as Hadley recounted Travis taking them to Target for shirts —which I had seen in their closets and thought was odd…haha and keeping the photos a secret.)

Before Homer, we had two Boxers, Shiloh and Scout. Shiloh was older by about a year and a half. When Scout was 10, he passed away unexpectedly, and then we still had Shiloh. For Christmas, I opened up a box with this sweet bracelet. It has our anniversary, the kids’ names, and Shiloh and Scout engraved. I cried.

This Christmas was no different. He had this photo made/framed from Smallwoods.

While these were for the kids, I had no idea he was getting them. When they opened them and I saw them, I cried. #cryingisaChristmastheme

I love them so much.

This Christmas, I asked for perfume because I was running low. I’m not really picky about perfume, so I suggested Travis choose one that he liked (and still told him a couple of suggestions as ideas). Anyway, on Christmas, I opened up not one, but three perfumes. I love them all, but what makes them more special is that he took Hadley with them, and she helped him pick them out.

I got: Juliette has a Gun, Daisy Dream, and Perfect by Marc Jacobs. I love them all and just rotate day to day.

Last night, after dinner, the kids and Travis gave me their gifts. I wasn’t expecting it, but Travis gave me some new earrings while the kids gave me this jar with slips of paper to use throughout the year. Hadley led this charge, I’m sure, but I appreciate that they all gave ideas like “cup of coffee, watch a tv show as a family, and my choice of takeout.” Both gifts were so thoughtful…and unexpected.

What’s the most memorable gift you’ve received?

Have a great Sunday,

Gift Guides (ish)

Happy Monday!

How was your weekend? We spent some of our weekend in Knoxville because Hayden ran in the AAU National Championship race. Then, we spent Sunday doing all the things like church, grocery pick up, shopped for Angel Tree gifts, chores around the house, and then watched the Chiefs game.

Anyway, I know that many Instagrammers and bloggers share gift guides this time of the year which can be both helpful and and sometimes overwhelming.

In my own little twist on “gift guides,” I’m sharing Enneagram gift guides because I love the ones that @ashton.creates shares on her page.

Again, I don’t live or die by Enneagrams, but I do think it’s interesting. I’m a 5w6 and here are the gift guides for both of those:

5 (Investigator)

  • Camera: Well, I haven’t owned a camera in ages thanks to my iPhone, but I do love taking pictures.
  • Candle: Yes! I love candles. I used to pretty much only buy my candles at Bath and Body Works, but this past year, I’ve ordered quite a few from Antique Candle Co., and I’ve loved them all.
  • New mug: I love coffee mugs. While I switch them up season to season, I pretty much stick with my fave most mornings.

6 (Loyalist)

  • Weighted blanket: I cannot live without my weighted blanket. I’ve had one for a couple of years, and it’s hard to sleep without it!
  • Membership: Memberships are a great idea. We always gift Netflix to my dad every year.
  • Letter board: Crafty things are so fun.
  • Slippers: I have a couple of pairs of favorites slippers, but these are my fave.

Another favorite Instagram account I follow is @the.enneagram.mom. Her gift guides are fun too!

5

  • Blue light blocker glasses: When we were online for school, I snagged a few pairs of glasses; they were fun to wear.
  • Collectors book set: I always ask for a couple of books every year. Since I rarely buy books, I usually keep a list on Amazon that I share with family as gift ideas for me.
  • Comfy sweaters: Yes to a sweater! The best part about winter is sweater weather. This is my favorite Amazon sweater (I have it in three colors), and this one is a recent purchase that I love.
  • Book marks: I love a good book mark!
  • Add to their coffee station: K-cups in my stocking, please.
  • Home thermostat: This is a practical idea.
  • Reading chair: I dream of having a big enough bedroom one day to have a reading corner.

6

  • Comfy sweaters: See above!
  • Personalized jewelry: Etsy always has so many cute options. I’ve gifted and received so many good and thoughtful pieces through the years.
  • Cute storage: Organizing is always a great idea!
  • Water bottle: Besides a water bottle (which we don’t need ANY more!), I love personalized tumblers and skinny can coolers.
  • New vacuum: This I do not need 🙂
  • Home security: Again, practical!
  • Purse organization: see “cute storage” above

What’s on your “wish list” this year? If you know your Enneagram number, you should check out their posts!

Teens (and others!)

Now, these aren’t Earth shattering ideas, but I never shared what I got the kids for their birthday.

I try to do “want, need, wear, read” to keep it a somewhat simple shopping list.

Both:

This book caught my eye and I knew they’d love the Homer socks!

Hayden:

I hope they’ll let me buy them Christmas pjs until they are 18. I don’t buy the cute little kid ones anymore, but bottom line is in the winter months, they need warmer pjs…so why not buy for birthday?

Hayden prefers the jogger style for sweatpants and pajama pants, so I turned to Old Navy to get both of their pjs. Both of my kids now fit in adults sizes (what the what?!), so that’s what they got. Travis ordered this set of football cards for Hayden, and he was excited.

We also got Hayden a Nike UK hooded sweatshirt, jogger sweatpants, and basketball shorts.

Hadley:

I wanted to get Hadley something special for her 13th birthday, and picked out the Elisa pendant necklace at Kendra Scott. I wasn’t sure what stone she’d want, and I ended up choosing her birthstone.

Besides flannel pj bottoms (and t-shirt), I got her a Kentucky sweatshirt, leggings, and this sweater.

Honestly, I feel more behind than ever on my shopping. As the kids have gotten older, they understand that money and gift cards go a long way, but of course, I want to pick up them up other things as well. In some ways it was easier when they loved Legos and Barbies!

I’d love to hear any ideas you have for my teens! Bonus points if I can order on Amazon. haha

I hope you have a great start to your week.

Not Just a Mom: Gift Ideas

Hello and Happy Monday. How was your weekend? We had a really good one. We started with going to the Oaks on Friday (more on that tomorrow)…

….lots of down time on Saturday while watching all the Derby day races…

…and then yesterday was Mother’s Day which of course is a favorite.

Today, I’m co-hosting our Not Just a Mom link up with some of my favorite bloggers:

So far this year, we’ve discussed:

This month, we are sharing about go to gift ideas.

When I think of gifts, I usually think of Etsy for some reason. I often shop there for gift ideas for family and friends.

Etsy:

From sweatshirts to picture frames to jewelry and more, you can find most everything on Etsy. I like to support small shops when I can, and Etsy is easy to search to find what you are looking for.

Here are some of my Etsy posts:

Go to ideas:

My “go to” gift ideas usually include:

  • candles
  • books
  • scarf
  • flowers
  • gift card

Recent gifts:

Last year, for Mother’s Day, my brother and I purchased Storyworth for my mom. It’s been fun getting her weekly responses. I guess it’s time to order the book now, and it will be a fun keepsake to have for years to come.

This year, I sent her a candle from Antique Candle Co. for Mother’s Day.

When I got on their site to pick a candle, I saw they had this gift set option:

My mom’s birthday is soon, and her gift arrived a bit early. She went ahead and opened it. I purchased this seasonal door hanger for her. It’s cute, shipped quickly, and she loves it.

lots of options like this on Etsy

(Shout out to mom for taking these photos of her gifts, so I could share) 😊

What are some of your “go to” gift ideas? I always love a card and a candle or fresh flowers. I honestly really appreciate a gift card to use whenever I have time.

Please join us next month when the topic is: dream travel locations. Ahh…just in time for summer! If you’re a blogger, we certainly hope you’ll join us.

I hope your week starts off right! Only three more Mondays in the school year for us, including today. Summer can’t get here soon enough.

Not Just a Mom

Hello! Happy Monday. How was your weekend? We had a pretty good one with a bit of downtime, but also a few activities like Hayden’s cross country meet and basketball game as well as the UK football game.

I’m one of the weird ones who likes to “fall back” an hour. Don’t get me wrong, I also enjoy when we “spring forward,” but during the fall months, I like to embrace the early darkness and enjoy time at home.

Today, I’m linking up with some of my favorite bloggers for our Not Just a Mom series.

Today’s topic is: favorite small shops

I’ve written a few posts about my favorite Etsy purchases. When I think about shopping small, I immediately think of Etsy. Through the years, I don’t think I’ve ever been disappointed with a single purchase from Etsy.

Of course, I try to support local small businesses too. If you are in the Lexington area, some of my favorites are: The Front Porch, Peggy’s, Story, Queen Bee, and Peacocks and Pearls.

Etsy Shops:

Here are a few of my favorite Etsy shops:

SprinkledWithPink:

I ordered this bag from SprinkledWithPink as an end of the year teacher gift last year, and it was so cute.

Hadley’s teacher told me she took it to the beach with her, and I know it’s perfect for toting books as well.

They have so many cute items that can be personalized like bags, pouches, phone cases and more.

RiLeeMDesigns:

I’ve bought these flower pots from RiLeeMDesigns a few times, both for myself, and as gifts.

The handpainted detail is amazing, and so cute.

As a gift, I’ve potted some flowers for an extra added touch.

Also, she has so many cute door hangers!

SummerDuffyDesign:

SummerDuffyDesign has so many cute gift options, but this pencil sign/door hanger was the perfect graduation gift for our sitter as she started her new teaching career!

Other really cute items in the shop include key chains, ornaments and bookmarks!

SweetMommaBlair:

I’ve purchased sweatshirts from SweetMommaBlair a few times, and they are cute and great quality.

Go Chiefs

Check out the Etsy shop especially if you are in Missouri. Tons of KC and St. L options!

Go Tigers

MelandMae:

Hadley loves a cute sweatshirt as much as I do. This one from MelandMae is so cute, and it’s one she wears often!

I also got Hadley this “Merry and Bright” one that she wore last holiday season.

AveandAshDesigns:

These books from AveandAsheDesigns are one of my favorite pieces of home decor.

I have “Hayden and Hadley” ones, and I’ve gifted these to my mom with the grandkids names.

According to Etsy, it looks like this shop might be taking a little break? I found these similar personalized books from a different Etsy shop.

That Inspired Chick:

ThatInspiredChick has so many awesome gift options. From wood signs to tumblers to mugs to earrings, and so much more… You won’t be disappointed with the cuteness and the quality.

Many of the items above are linked in these posts, but there are even more gift items in these as well:

What are your favorite small shops?

Next month, our topic is: favorite holiday movies

Make sure to check out the other posts, and link up if you can!

Thanks so much for reading,

Excellent Etsy Ideas

Hello! I’m typing this post from what has now been deemed “The Kentucky Tundra.” In the past week, we’ve had two snow/ice storms and a third one that’s passing through today bringing 4+ more inches of snow. Our roads are icy and snow packed, people continue to lose power, and the temps are frigid with wind chills 0 or below! Next week, I see 40’s in the forecast, and while I do love winter and snow, I’m ready for this stuff to melt!

Anyway, today, I’m sharing some recent Etsy purchases. Y’all know I love Amazon, but I do try to shop small when I can and especially when I’m giving gifts. Again, Amazon has everything, but shopping small always ends up with me finding cute and personalized gifts!

Sweet Momma Blair

Hadley wore this Merry and Bright sweatshirt on repeat for the months of November and December. Of course, I know the holidays have passed, but her shop has so many seasonal sweatshirts as well as sweatshirts and t-shirts with fun and sweet sayings and….

sports teams apparel like my KC Chiefs sweatshirt. It kind of has a retro feel, and I love it.

RSShome:

My Gma requested this photo frame for a Christmas gift, and it was so pretty in person and amazing quality.

Garnett Jewelry:

I purchased this cuff bracelet for Hadley for Christmas, and she loves it. I wanted to give her something meaningful, and this bracelet should be a great keepsake for her. As I’ve mentioned before, Sis loves a monogram!

Moonwake Designs Co:

I’d had these bags saved as a teacher gift idea from MoonwakeDesignCo for quite some time. They ended up being the perfect teacher gift. I put sticky notes and PaperMate pens in each bag for my kids’ teachers. These bags would be perfect for travel or as a cosmetic bag as well!

Genius Leather:

I’d been wanting to get Homer a new collar and this one from Genius Leather has been perfect for him. Lots of people in Kentucky have these “name plate” belts (Travis included!) as a nod to horse halters. I knew Homer would look so cute in this cognac brown one. He almost looks distinguished and well-behaved 😉

Zoey Belle’s Creations:

Another find for Homer was this dog bowl. Simple, but personalized, and it arrived quickly!

I don’t see the bowl listed anymore on Zoey Belle’s Creations, but there are so many cute products in this shop from winter headbands to Easter gift ideas and much more!

Biscuits Bandana Co:

I’ve ordered Homer many bandanas from Biscuits Bandana Co, most recently this tartan one. They have so many options. I’ve ordered Homer a red, white and blue scarf as well as a scarf for fall from them. Again, I’m try to get him to “dress the part” of a well-behaved pup.

4th of July festive

Simple Amazing Designs:

For Christmas, I got my Gma and my mom these hand towels with their grandparent names on them from the kids. They are the perfect stocking stuffer, and this shop has tons of personalized options!

Mel and Mae:

I started following Mel and Mae a few months ago on Instagram after were were in a follow loop together. After finding them on Etsy, I saw so many items that I loved!

I’ve shared this XOXO sweatshirt from Mel and Mae that I got for Hadley. Much like the Merry and Bright sweatshirt, she has worn this new one on repeat.

These leather circle stud monogrammed earrings were a perfect Valentine’s Day gift for Hadley. I don’t see these specific ones listed anymore, but, again, this shop has so many cute options and tons of jewelry.

Pillowcases:

I shared in my Valentine’s Day gift idea post, that the kids have had their personalized pillowcases for many years, so I decided to get them new ones for Valentine’s Day.

They turned out super cute, are great quality, and were the perfect update for their bedding.

Hadley pillowcase // Hayden’s pillowcase

I love the Etsy app because it’s easy to save ideas to favorite shops. Obviously these shops have more than what I’m sharing, so go check them out!

I should be back tomorrow for a Friday Favorites post. I know Andrea and Erika, who co-host the link up, have shared that they’ve been without power and haven’t posted this week. So many of the OG blogs I read are friends with each other and live in Texas. Prayers for all the people dealing with this unrelenting winter weather across the country!

Thanks so much for stopping by today!

Stay safe and warm,

Currently

T-minus two days until Winter break! Per usual for this time of the year, I feel like we’re hanging on by a thread over here! I always say…”Tis the season…for mom to lose her mind!” 😆

The weather went from beautiful to soggy and dreary in a matter of a day! I think that’s making us all feel extra tired and just ready for a break!

Today, I thought I’d share a quick Currently post about what’s been going on around here!

I’m currrently…

Appreciating:

Travis! He gave Hadley and me this Mary Kay 12 Days of Christmas gift set. I have two friends who sell MK, so he purchased one for Hadley and me as well as one for each of his sisters (and their daughters). Travis has always been a great gift giver! Also, Hadley has already opened all 12 days! 😂

Giving:

Teacher gifts! We gave the pod teacher a gift card to one of her favorite local stores. Then, the kids dropped off gifts for their teachers yesterday at school (front office). I’d had these zip pouches saved on my Etsy app as an idea for teacher gifts. They turned out so cute, and I put some sticky notes and felt tip markers in each one. The kids each wrote a card to their teachers, and those notes are always sweet and fun to read. I was happy to support small businesses during this holiday season.

Loving:

The generosity of others! This time of the year tends to bring out the best in people, but I feel like people have been extra generous in 2020.

From food drop off for God’s Pantry, clothing donations, Angel Tree gifts, and dinners for families in need at school, I love seeing the community come together to spread joy and happiness in such a trying time for so many.

Watching:

Baking shows! Like last month, I just love to watch these holiday baking shows on the Food Network. I enjoy them like some people enjoy Hallmark movies!

Reading:

Two books…I’m currently reading Holidaze on my Kindle and 25 Days ’til Christmas from the library. I usually have one Kindle book and one paperback book I’m reading. I’m enjoying both of these books, and they are certainly sweet Christmas books to read in December.

Supporting:

UPS workers! Travis did the shopping, and Hadley helped me put this basket together for our mailman and the other workers dropping off packages. I printed the sign from Etsy! (only 99 cents!)

Reminiscing:

About the kids looking out window in 2011. I love when this picture pops up in my Facebook memories, and I loved those pjs with their names on their bottoms.

Prepping:

The final touches of Christmas for our elf. He moves every night, leaves little sayings on our sign, gives little gifts, or just does something silly. He likes to have a plan for his visits!

He always leaves a bag of Reindeer Food: oats, glitter, and this cute poem for the kids to find the morning of December 24th.

Feeling:

Like Homer…so tired 😂

Laughing:

At this meme…

I know the postal service is overworked. I saw someone share a photo of a process room at a post office, and it was slammed.

My Christmas cards that I ordered on November 30th finally arrived yesterday. According to tracking, they’d been in Kentucky since December 9th, so I tried not to lose hope that they’d arrive on my doorstep! I was afraid I’d have mark out, “Merry Christmas” and write “Happy New Year!”

I guess it still might be a good idea because who knows when I will get them out or when others will receive them!

So, there’s a little glimpse of what’s been going on around here. See you back here tomorrow for my last Friday Favorites post of 2020!

Take care,

Gift Ideas

Travis had a birthday last week, and we bought him a few things that I thought I’d share in case you need some ideas for any upcoming occasions.

Keychain

Lewindy popped up as a Facebook advertisement, and I thought the personalized keychain would be a great Father’s Day gift for Travis. We were in Florida during that time, so I personalized it with a picture of the kids that I took on the first night of the trip.

The downside was that it did take over three weeks to come in, so it ended up being a birthday present instead of a Father’s Day gift. The quality is great and the product turned out perfectly. Also, it came in a cute bag that made for a nice presentation.

On the backside of the metal plate with the picture, I personalized it with a note from the kids.

That being said, I don’t see this product on their site right now. BUT…I did find a similar product on Etsy.

Etsy had a few shops with this type of product.

Coffee Mug

We don’t necessarily need another coffee mug in this house, but I noticed Travis taking his coffee to work using some of my random travel mugs that have mom or teacher sayings on them 😉 So, as always, Amazon saved the day.

I loved the look of the mahogany color and packaging of this Sipworks travel mug. And, of course, it arrived in two days! Win. Win!

Wallet:

If you’ve been following along for even a bit, you know nothing is safe at our house in regards to being #homered. Desserts and wallets seem to be his jam. Around Christmastime, Homer destroyed Trav’s wallet. Even though we don’t do Valentine’s Day gifts, I bought Travis a wallet. It lasted two days.

Since Valentine’s Day, Travis has used a rubber band to keep his cards and cash together. I thought I’d try one more time to purchase a wallet for him after seeing Christine talk about the Andar wallet in her Instagram Stories. I even used her code for a discount.

Besides the fact that he needed a new wallet, I also loved the feature she showed where you pull the tab and the card pops out…rather than when you have to dig, pinch, and pull to get your card out to pay.

There are a few wallet options, but I bought Travis “The Apollo.” Like the keychain, the packaging for the wallet was nice with a box and then a drawstring bag.

I don’t want to jinx it, but it’s already lasted longer than the Valentine’s Day wallet from Target.

Tab to pull to release card

Once he opened the gifts, I realized I clearly had a brown/tan/mahogany theme going on!

He appreciated all the gifts, of course…and the kids were excited for him to open them.

I hope you are having a great week!
