Friday Favorites {#66}

Happy Friday! Yay! We made it to the weekend.

This week was a good one, but the weather sure has been soggy the past couple of days! After two later nights with ball games, it was nice to have no scheduled activities on Wednesday night. Then, baseball practice was canceled because of rain last night, but Hadley still had a couple of afternoon and evening activities.

Also, it’s Derby week, so Travis has been busy with work (and fun) while anxiously awaiting Saturday and the fastest two minutes in sports!

As always, I’m linking up with Andrea and Erika for this week’s Friday Favorites post.

This week, I’m sharing some favorites from each day!

Sunday:

On Sunday, Hadley had a very early call time for her dance competition. Her team did awesome, and both dances earned gold stars!

The only good thing about at 7:00 arrival time for competition was that meant we were finished in time for brunch. We ate with some of Trav’s family at The Cafe, and the food was really good.

After brunch, we took a few minutes to wander around the farmer’s market/street fair that was right outside.

I purchased this new front door mat, and I love it. Plus, the jockey silk is my favorite color!

I purchased the doormat at a cute booth that had a quick craft opportunity. The owner had plain blocks and a jockey silk stencil, and Hadley (and her cousins) each made one of these cute little decorations.

Monday:

On Monday, Hayden had a baseball game, and I was so excited for these leftovers. I’d made Shay’s Beef and Rice Skillet Supper on Sunday, and the leftovers were even better!

Tuesday:

On Tuesday, my favorite part of the day was watching Hayden play baseball even though the game didn’t end up until really late due to extra innings!

Also, another week and more Trader Joe’s flowers 😂 Peonies are my favorite, so I always snatch them up when I go to Trader Joe’s.

Wednesday:

Honestly, the highlight of Wednesday was having zero activities in the evening. I was in my pjs by 7:00!

Also, I picked up these personalized cups in preparation for a little get together to celebrate Hayden and Hadley in a couple of weeks.

their first day of kindergarten!

Thursday:

Thursday was such a soggy day, but I was able to meet some friends for drinks and dinner on the covered patio of a favorite restaurant while Hadley was at dance!

Other Faves:

Some other favorites from the week include UK Women’s Volleyball winning the National Championship! This has been quite the headline all week. Every fall, we usually go to one or two UK volleyball games because they are always so fun to watch! Of course, we couldn’t go last fall, but we had fun watching their televised match on Saturday night.

C/o UK Athletics

I will say, this exciting news has also been uplifting after hearing the the somber news of the unexpected passing of UK Men’s Basketball player Terrence Clarke. The Lexington community has definitely felt the highs and lows this week.

This is kind of a random favorite, but last Saturday night I forgot to bring my sound machine (and my melatonin!) to Louisville. #doublewhammy I knew I needed some quiet noise to fall asleep, so I downloaded this app, and it was a great substitution for my regular sound machine. What I liked about it was that you can combine noises and then save the noises to your “favorites.” So, I combined white noise with the ocean, and it was just perfect, and now I have it saved for future use if needed.

While picking up my peonies on a quick Trader Joe’s run, I also picked up these Everything but the Bagel potato chips. I’d never seen them before, and I really like them! The good news is that neither of my kids like them, so they won’t be hogging them! 😂

Favorite Mom Meme(s):

I love this meme. It’s so true!

I feel this meme deeply. Something usually has to give!

Bonus Fave: Flashback Friday:

I love this pic from April 2013. To be honest, I took it after a very difficult week. The most difficult week of my life. I remember taking this photo and counting my blessings (times 2).

Another favorite from this week in 2013…Hadley without a care in the world looking at horses. It’s rare for her to be still, and here she is taking it all in!

Weekly Recap:

I had another full week of posts! Here they are:

What are you up to this weekend? Saturday is Derby Day, y’all, which is the biggest day of the year around here! Believe it or not, we don’t have any baseball games this weekend, but Hadley does have one final dance competition.

I hope you have a great weekend! I hope to have a post for Monday, but I will have to see how the weekend shakes out.

Take care,

Monthly Musings: Spring Cleaning

Hello! How is your week going? We are hanging in there. After two nights of baseball games, we had nothing on the calendar last night, and it was so wonderful. Besides activities, the kids are starting their end of the year testing, so we’ve had that on the calendar as well.

Today’s post may not be my most exciting post ever, but I always love linking up with Patty and Holly when I can for their Monthly Musings link up.

This month’s topic is Spring Cleaning.

Well, I should have had Travis write this post! He is a cleaner, and I’m a tidier. We balance each other out, but he’s certainly more well-versed in the cleaning department. I mean, I’ve had to ask him where we keep the vacuum one too many times. #findyouamanwholikestoclean

1. Are you doing a spring cleaning this year?

Yes, and it’s what I typically do each year. For me, the closets and the kids’ rooms are the first ones I tackle. We tend to purge and reorganize their rooms in November, before the holidays, and then again in March/April. Those are the perfect times to see what fits them, what toys/books they don’t want to keep, and toss any random items like art supplies and dried up markers!

We Travis tends to clean out, tidy up, and re-organize the garage in the spring or early summer.

2. Favorite cleaning products?

For daily use, I love Mrs. Meyer’s cleaning supplies. A friend gave us this brand in a cute basket as a house warming gift over six yeas ago, and I’ve never looked back!

{Side note: my soap holder by my sink is one of my favorite quick projects. When we moved in house, I was unpacking and realized we had a cake stand that I never used (wedding gift from 2005). So, I spray painted it, and it sits to the left of our sink to hold our dish soap, spray, and hand soap}

3. What is your must clean for every spring?

I’d swap the word “clean” for the word “purge.” I purge the hall closets and kids rooms in the spring. Travis would say his “must clean” is to power wash the back patio!

4. Any garage/shed cleaning tips?

Marry Travis White?! 😂 We don’t have a shed, but he stays on top of the garage organization.

5. Pack rat or Marie Kondo devotee?

I think I’m somewhere in between…

I’m pretty sentimental and keep items of clothing with the kids’ names or monogram on them. I figure one day I will have blanket made for them. I have also kept a lot of their school t-shirts and some sports uniforms.

I keep school work and artwork in these storage containers from Michaels. Both kids have one for kindergarten-2nd grade work and another one for 3rd-5th grade school work.

I also have these colorful boxes with school papers, report cards, calendars and other information we need.

Most of the time when I think of cleaning, it just means purging and organizing! I always feel so much better after I do so.

6. Best cleaning hack?

…have kids so they do the cleaning? 😆 or…don’t have kids so there are no messes to clean up! 😉

I really don’t have any “cleaning hacks,” but I’d love to learn some, so feel free to share !

My latest “hack” for Hayden’s white baseball pants is to use Fels-Naptha on grass stains and dirty pants! I’m pretty sure it’s been around for years, but last fall was the first time I’d heard of it thanks to a fellow baseball mom.

Not a hack, but I just feel so much better if I pick up the house every night. It’s nice to start the day with a clean slate (literally and figuratively 😉) each morning.

Or you could do this…

Another idea is to really deep clean a different part of the house each day or complete a daily chore. For example, clean the bathrooms on Mondays and do laundry on Saturdays.

7. Do you have help with house cleaning?

We do!

Me before our house cleaner comes:

The best gift we’ve given ourselves is having someone clean the house every other week. It’s so nice to come home to a spotless house!! A house cleaner is a treat for me. Trav’s “treat” is a few years ago we hired someone to start mowing the lawn. Truth be told, Travis loves yard work, and loves to mow the grass. We just don’t have the time in the spring and the summer to stay on top of our sizable yard! We could figure it out if needed, but it’s nice to let that task go…to someone with a zero turn mower that can cut the grass in twenty minutes rather than three hours.

Little does Hayden know, but in a couple of years, mowing the lawn can be his chore!

8. Favorite cleaning appliance?

Our dry Swifter sweeper is perfect for our hardwood floors and dog hair! Also, I’m loving the efficiency of our new washer that we got about six months ago!

9. Run the dishwasher ever night or just when full?

We run the dishwasher about three times a week when it’s full. Then, the kids help unload it and put away what they can reach and then one of us puts things away that are up high.

10. Favorite way to donate or purge unneeded items?

We tend to donate clothes and household items to the Salvation Army. I’ve sold some things on Facebook Marketplace, and I also offer good, hardly worn clothes to neighbors before donating or selling.

Recently, Travis and a neighbor split the cost of a dumpster and Travis took the opportunity to clear out a few items in the attic, organized the unfinished part of our basement, and purge items in the garage.

So that’s a little bit of a peek on Spring Cleaning in our house. Do you enjoy spring cleaning? What are some of your favorite cleaning products?

May’s topic is Summer Preview. I’m happy to report that with our last day of school scheduled for May 18, I will be living the summer life while writing that post!

Thanks so much for reading. Make sure to check out other ladies’ posts too! I will see you back here tomorrow for this week’s Friday Favorites.

April: What I’ve Been Reading

Well, I keep thinking I will have more time to read, but that hasn’t been the case. That being said, I’m keeping up with my monthly average of reading 3 books. They were all pretty different reads; I thought one was fantastic, one was great, and one was good!

This month I read…

{As always, book summaries are from Goodreads…}

The first two books were ones that I couldn’t put down…

The Push:

The Push

Summary:

Blythe Connor is determined that she will be the warm, comforting mother to her new baby Violet that she herself never had.

But in the thick of motherhood’s exhausting early days, Blythe becomes convinced that something is wrong with her daughter–she doesn’t behave like most children do.

Or is it all in Blythe’s head? Her husband, Fox, says she’s imagining things. The more Fox dismisses her fears, the more Blythe begins to question her own sanity, and the more we begin to question what Blythe is telling us about her life as well.

Then their son Sam is born–and with him, Blythe has the blissful connection she’d always imagined with her child. Even Violet seems to love her little brother. But when life as they know it is changed in an instant, the devastating fall-out forces Blythe to face the truth.

The Push is a tour de force you will read in a sitting, an utterly immersive novel that will challenge everything you think you know about motherhood, about what we owe our children, and what it feels like when women are not believed.

Quick Thoughts:

The main characters are Etta, Cecilia, Blythe, and Violet, and was written in Blythe’s point of view. Because of that, she ‘s the character that the reader gets to know the most.

The chapters were pretty short, and this was definitely a page turner, I felt like I knew how it should end based off of what was going on, but as the book drew to an end, I wondered if it was going to end like I thought it would. It did. This was a heartbreaking read, and I can honestly say I’ve never read a book like it. The topic of motherhood is central to the story with snippets of how difficult life can be for some depending on their upbringing.

A quote that stood out to me was: “You know, there’s a lot about ourselves that we can’t change– it’s just the way we’re born. But some parts of us are shaped by what we see. And how we’re treated by other people. How we’re made to feel.”

Rating:

This is the book that I thought was “great,” as I’ve never read anything like it…I’d say that I actually rank it with 4.5 stars.

Firefly Lane:

Firefly Lane

Summary:

In the turbulent summer of 1974, Kate Mularkey has accepted her place at the bottom of the eighth-grade social food chain. Then, to her amazement, the “coolest girl in the world” moves in across the street and wants to be her friend. Tully Hart seems to have it all—beauty, brains, ambition. On the surface they are as opposite as two people can be: Kate, doomed to be forever uncool, with a loving family who mortifies her at every turn. Tully, steeped in glamour and mystery, but with a secret that is destroying her. They make a pact to be best friends forever; by summer’s end they’ve become TullyandKate. Inseparable.

So begins Kristin Hannah’s magnificent new novel. Spanning more than three decades and playing out across the ever-changing face of the Pacific Northwest, Firefly Lane is the poignant, powerful story of two women and the friendship that becomes the bulkhead of their lives.

From the beginning, Tully is desperate to prove her worth to the world. Abandoned by her mother at an early age, she longs to be loved unconditionally. In the glittering, big-hair era of the eighties, she looks to men to fill the void in her soul. But in the buttoned-down nineties, it is television news that captivates her. She will follow her own blind ambition to New York and around the globe, finding fame and success . . . and loneliness.

Kate knows early on that her life will be nothing special. Throughout college, she pretends to be driven by a need for success, but all she really wants is to fall in love and have children and live an ordinary life. In her own quiet way, Kate is as driven as Tully. What she doesn’t know is how being a wife and mother will change her . . . how she’ll lose sight of who she once was, and what she once wanted. And how much she’ll envy her famous best friend. . . .

For thirty years, Tully and Kate buoy each other through life, weathering the storms of friendship—jealousy, anger, hurt, resentment. They think they’ve survived it all until a single act of betrayal tears them apart . . . and puts their courage and friendship to the ultimate test.

Firefly Lane is for anyone who ever drank Boone’s Farm apple wine while listening to Abba or Fleetwood Mac. More than a coming-of-age novel, it’s the story of a generation of women who were both blessed and cursed by choices. It’s about promises and secrets and betrayals. And ultimately, about the one person who really, truly knows you—and knows what has the power to hurt you . . . and heal you. Firefly Lane is a story you’ll never forget . . . one you’ll want to pass on to your best friend

Quick Thoughts:

I loved how the parts of the book were organized by decade and have song for the title. For example, Part One: The Seventies Dancing Queen, young and sweet, only seventeen and Part Three: The Nineties I’m Every Woman, it’s all in me. The song titles fit the time period of their lives as well as the plot.

I always think it’s so interesting when two total opposites are best friends. Tully and Kate definitely balance each other out, are there for each other in the highs and lows of life, and treat each other like sisters. Proof that the “grass isn’t always greener,” they are envious of each other’s lives as adults when one chooses career and the other chooses family.

This book gutted me. I haven’t ugly cried at the end of a book like this since 2006 when I read Marley and Me. The last few chapters took me forever to read because I had tears in my eyes the entire time.

I can easily see how the book could be made into a series. I’ve heard the book is better than the Netflix series, but I did start watching it. (#duh) After three episodes, I can already tell the book is better, but I like the actresses who play Tully and Kate, so I’m sure I will see it though til the end.

I’m on hold for book 2: Fly Away…Thankfully, it won’t be my turn to read it for a few weeks…which gives me some time to recover!

Rating:

This was the book that I thought was fantastic. It will most likely be a top 2021 read for me.

Little Disasters:

Little Disasters

Summary:

A new thought-provoking novel exploring the complexity of motherhood and all that connects and disconnects us.

You think you know her…but look a little closer.

She is a stay-at-home mother-of-three with boundless reserves of patience, energy, and love. After being friends for a decade, this is how Liz sees Jess.

Then one moment changes everything.

Dark thoughts and carefully guarded secrets surface—and Liz is left questioning everything she thought she knew about her friend, and about herself. The truth can’t come soon enough.

Quick Thoughts:

This was another challenging book about motherhood. There was some suspense to it as I tried to put the pieces together of what happened after the “one moment that changes everything,” but as the book wrapped up, and the ending made sense, I still was left thinking the outcome felt a little odd and forced.

Rating:

So, that means this is the book that I thought was good, not great or fantastic!

What have you been reading lately? My reading list continues to grow, and I’m so happy that our libraries have opened back up, so I can pop in to peruse the shelves when I have time.

See you back here tomorrow for the Monthly Musings link up.

Mother’s Day Gift Ideas

Well, Mother’s Day is just around the corner! It’s become a tradition for us to go to brunch and then swing by the local nursery to pick out two hanging ferns and flowers for our front porch. Usually, my crew gives me a card along with a surprise or two as well.

I joke every year, but I all I truly want is a to sip my morning coffee in silence, to not have to cook dinner, and to have my kids behave!

Along with those things, I’m sharing a few of my favorites that other moms might enjoy too!

Here are some Mother’s Day gift ideas:

Kendra Scott Bracelets:

Or any Kendra Scott jewelry for that matter 😉

The kids gave me this silver stretch bracelet for Christmas, and then I used my birthday discount in January (because KS gives you 50% discount during your birthday month) to buy the gold set of three stretch bracelets. I wear both every day!

Tomon Gold Stretch Bracelet

Here’s a peek at my bracelets:

Athleisure Wear:

I’ve raved about these Amazon 7/8 leggings and joggers, and I still wear them often and love them so much. Both are great quality, very comfortable, affordable, and come in a variety of colors.

7/8 leggings // Joggers

Etsy Faves:

These flower pots are the cutest. I purchased them from RiLeeMDesigns as teacher gifts last year for my kids’ teachers, I bought one for myself and then one for my Gma’s birthday. This is such a sweet personalized gift!

Flower Pots

Here are the kids last May with gifts for their teachers:

I read Amanda’s blog, and follow her on Instagram as well…which led me to her That Inspired Chick Etsy shop. I’ve purchased a water tracker tumbler and skinny can cooler from the shop!

Skinny Can Cooler

Here’s my skinny can cooler…It will get more use now that the weather is warmer and White Claws are my drink of choice.

I purchased a set of these books from AveandAshDesigns for a decoration in our living room. I’ve also gifted these to my mom with her grandkids’ names on them.

Hand-stamped Books

Here are my Hayden and Hadley books…

My favorite gift for any holiday is a card. I love receiving a card with sweet thoughts from my kids (and/or Travis). I save cards and notes that I have received throughout the years.

Of course, moms would also enjoy gift cards for a massage, manicure/pedicure, or to a favorite restaurant or shop to use later.

It truly is the thought that counts. The best gifts I’ve received through the years are the homemade ones…and no fighting from the kids 😉

Take care,

April Monday Memes

Hello! How was your weekend? We had a good one! Friday was a pretty relaxed evening, and I went to be early! On Saturday, Hayden had an early game…in the rain! Then, I ran to Trader Joe’s, did laundry, prepped for Hadley’s dance competition, and did other household chores. On Sunday, Hadley had a very early call time for the competition! We enjoyed the performances, followed by lunch, and then headed back home to Lexington to pick up groceries, take Hadley to a birthday party, take Hayden to meet with his mentor, do laundry and prep for the week!

While Friday evening was lowkey, I swear the rest of the weekend was a blur!

WordPress told me that today is my 350th post, and I’m “celebrating” that with a funny Monday Memes post.

1.

This one made me LOL. I will say that I tend to fall back on sarcasm when I’m feeling a little stressed and overwhelmed.

2.

I feel seen.

3.

I’m not ever super late, but this meme actually reminded me more of Travis. Not that he’s typically late, but I tend to add 15 minutes to “I’m almost home,” when that’s his response to my “When will you be home?”

4.

I can’t quit pjs and comfy clothes!

5.

I always joke about having FOMO…I at least want to be invited places even if I have to turn down the invitation.

6.

I try really hard not to make eye contact with any in store surveillance camera.

7.

You think I’d be in waaayyy better shape! (Although with the warmer weather, I’ve made the transition to White Claws!) 😉

8.

I’ve seen this meme many times, and it makes me laugh.

9.

Can’t quit the ‘gram 😂

10.

This one is so funny! Nothing makes me panic more than rising gas prices!!

Every Monday needs to start with a little bit of humor! Thanks so much for reading, and I hope you have a great week.

Friday Favorites {#65}

Hey, hey! It’s Friday! Per usual, it’s been a busy week, and we’ve even had some crazy weather! I can’t believe we only have about four weeks of school left! Of course, that also means the end of the year craziness mixed with an already hectic spring schedule, but summer is on the horizon, and I’m here for it!

I’m linking up with Andrea and Erika for this week’s Friday Favorites.

Here are some favorites from the week:

We’ve seen lots of baseball in the past week. We went to my school’s high school game last Friday night. Then, on Saturday, we watched cousin Wyatt play his game.

Then, Wyatt (and fam!) came to Hayden’s game.

Hayden’s game on Wednesday we postponed due to the freezing temps and snow!

On Friday night, we tried a new gourmet hot dog place. We all love hotdogs (except for Hadley who settled on the chili cheese fries!) I can’t say “no” to a corndog, so that’s what I got, and Travis tried the “Ranch Dog” which looked so good. Hayden had the chili dog. We hope to go back when the weather is warmer and sit outside. The restaurant has such a picturesque setting!

Trav’s Ranch Dog

The kids’ service project has been a favorite. They baked and delivered cookies for church members this week.

They also wrote notes to those who were receiving the goodies.

Trader Joe’s flowers continue to be a favorite. I went to TJ on Sunday, and picked up some tulips. They look so pretty in the morning sunlight.

Well, it’s April, but 5th grade photos are in! They turned out so cute, and I love the background.

For perspective, here they are in kindergarten. We’ve gone from toothless grins to braces. #holdme

While snow in April isn’t a favorite, this is April in Kentucky, y’all! *English teacher nerd alert: one of my favorite literary terms to teach is “juxtaposition.” That’s the first thing that popped into my mind when I saw the snow on the beautiful flowers on Wednesday morning.

Favorite Mom Meme:

I feel this meme deeply. Besides always wanting a bite of whatever I have, Hayden always asks for a sip of my Diet Coke, and ends up chugging half the bottle!

I saw this one on Instagram and literally laughed out loud.

{Ramblin’ Mama is so funny!}

Bonus Fave: Flashback Friday

Since today’s post had so many baseball photos, this 2014 photo of Trav and the kids before their first ever Wee Ball game, is appropriate. It was always fun having both kids on the same team!

Hayden with his hand on his chin is just too much!

Weekly Recap:

I was able to post every day this week! #whoamI ?! Here they are in case you missed one!

What are your plans for the weekend? We have a baseball game and Hadley’s dance competition, so those two things will definitely keep us busy. I think the weekend (and next week) looks to have warmer weather which is welcomed after our cold temps this week. See you back here Monday.

Thanks so much for reading,

Posted in Three things

Three Things

Hello! I like to do a Three Things post every few months, and dive a little deeper into what each of us is up to! (Spoiler alert: I’m a professional chauffeur!)

Here’s what we’ve been up to:

  1. The spring baseball season is in full swing, and Hayden is having fun. Bonus: He looks so cute in his uniform(s)!
  2. Hayden has been working with his church mentor on a service project. They baked cookies and brownies and delivered them to home bound church members.
  3. Let me tell you who tunes in weekly to American Idol and also uses the app to vote each week…Hayden! He’s very invested in contestants and the competition!

Bonus: Hayden’s still wearing his contacts some days. Travis still helps him put them in (we just haven’t allocated a lot of time for Hayden to practice…maybe this summer), but he can take them out. He usually wears contacts on game days, so he wears them all day and then at the game. I will say he’s sometimes hard to spot on the field without his sports goggles!

  1. It’s dance competition season, and Hadley is having so much fun. She enjoys dance so much and has a sweet group of girls on her dance team. Recital time is around the corner too!
  2. Hadley continues to attend the girl’s reading group at church, has been meeting with her mentor, and has helped with the same service project as Hayden. I always love hearing about the sessions with her group and her mentor.
  3. Hadley is loving every minute of in person learning. She loves her teachers, her classmates, and her school. She’s soaking up these last few weeks of elementary school and enjoying the “perks” of being in 5th grade like reading the school morning announcements! (She also continues to email me at least once a day which still cracks me up!)

Bonus: We’ve got Hadley signed up for summer swim team after a year off! She’s excited to get back in the pool!

Homer:

Homer is taking his job as the “neighborhood watch” very seriously! If you are jogging by or walking your dog anywhere in the vicinity of our house, he will say “hi!” He is enjoying the spring time weather, and can be found basking in the sunshine for hours on end.

I don’t want to give him too much credit, but he’s matured quite a bit…by that, I mean he hasn’t destroyed a TV remote or computer mouse in a few months! #IhopeIdidntjinxit

I do think he’s finally adjusted to us going back to school. At least now, he’s gone back to being a “good boy” and getting in his kennel for a treat when we are about to leave!

Travis and Me:

Travis: It’s the time of the year when Travis is working hard in the yard. Travis takes pride in his yard, and has spent the last couple of weeks pulling weeds and spreading mulch. The grass is so green, so the yard is looking nice. Of course, we got a bit snow yesterday, so he’s wise enough to know it’s too early to plant anything!

He’s also gearing up for one of his busiest times of the year…Derby time! Derby Week is his favorite week of the year!

Me: I’ve loved being back to school. It’s great to see students and colleagues, and get back to “normal.” Thankfully, our district and our schools have done a great job following protocols and guidelines keeping everyone safe!

As a mom and as a teacher, the end of the school year/spring sports hustle is real! I’m hanging in there, keeping busy at school, having fun watching the kids do dance and baseball, and am prepping for major milestones for Hayden and Hadley in May.

The spring/end of the school year schedule is so crazy! By the end of May, I’m definitely ready for summer and a more relaxed schedule. So, that’s what we’ve been up to!

See you back here tomorrow for Friday Favorites!

For the Love of Reading

Hello! Today’s post is inspired by my love of reading!

It’s no secret that I love a good book, so when Tanya shared her answers after reading Julie’s post, I thought it would be fun to reflect on my This or That: Books answers.

  • Buy or Borrow: I typically borrow books from the library. I probably make a trip to the library for book pick up or return at least once a week. I will occasionally purchase a book if I know it’s something I will probably read again or loan to a friend. For example, I purchased The Giver of Stars because I’d heard so many wonderful things about it, and I’m so glad that I have my own copy.
  • Print or Ebook: Well, I held off on ebooks for as long as possible, but two years ago, I purchased my Kindle, and I love the convenience of it. I still prefer to hold a book in my hands, but I always have at least one book on my Kindle that I can read when I have a few minutes to spare. I often keep my Kindle in my purse in case I have a few minutes to read if Travis is driving or if I’m waiting on one of the kids to finish up an activity.
  • Indoor Reading or Outdoor Reading: I’d say most of my reading take place while indoors. I always read a few minutes on my Kindle before bed. That being said, I love to read in the warmth of our sun room, and there’s nothing better than reading at the pool or at the beach with the sound of the waves in the background.
  • Classics or Contemporary: As a high school English teacher, I’ve read quite a few classics! That being said, for my own reading pleasure, I stick to more contemporary books.
  • Bookmarks or Dog-eared: Since most of what I read is borrowed, I use a bookmark to hold my place. Random, but a couple of years ago, the kids got a few bookmarks at the end of 3rd grade with summer book title suggestions for going into 4th grade. I still use that same bookmark two years later.
  • Marginalia or Clean Pages: Clean pages since I tend to borrow books. That being said, if the book is mine, I like to underline favorite passages or put a star by meaningful quotes.
  • Speed-reader or Slow and Steady: I’d say I’m a pretty quick reader. I don’t necessarily rush what I’m reading, but I do find myself reading quicker on my Kindle.

So those are my This or That answers. How would you have answered the categories?

Before I wrap up, I’m also sharing….

Funny Memes about Reading

Mom meme:

OMG! I loved when my elementary school would do this! I loved cashing in my reading coupon for a personal pan pizza at Pizza Hut!

This is me some nights…

This one…hahaha!

This “book-addict” meme is so true. I love the feel of a book and the convenience of the Kindle.

Fave Account:

Also, a fun share…

Do you follow @sorrythankyou79 {vintage books} on Instagram? I’m mesmerized by their photos of all of the beautiful books they share (and sell!) Go check out their Instagram page!

One last book note: I just finished Firefly Lane, and I couldn’t put it down. I read the last 50 pages through tears in my eyes. I couldn’t quit crying. I enjoyed the book so much and am on the library wait list for book #2: Fly Away. Looks like I have about four weeks until it’s my turn for the book…which gives me some time to recover from the first one!

{Also, after reading the book, I started the series on Netflix. I heard the book was better (shocker!), but I can’t resist giving the series a try too! Hadley said, “So, does that mean you’ll cry again?” 😂 Only time will tell!}

See you back here tomorrow for a Three Things post.

Spring and Summer Clothes for Girls

Hello! How’s it going? I’ve had such great luck finding some cute clothes and shoes for Hadley lately, so I’m sharing those today while linking up with Ashley and Erika for Tuesday Talk.

I’d share some clothes that Hayden loves to currently wear, but that post would be short, sweet, and include Nike shorts and whatever t-shirt he finds on the closet floor. That being said, I am grateful the kid will put on a pair of khaki shorts or pants without a fight now, and we’ve been blessed with some awesome hand-me-down button down shirts and polos that he’ll wear when needed.

Here are some things Hadley’s been wearing the past couple of months to transition from cold to warmer weather.

Amazon

These pajamas were one of Hadley’s Easter presents. This is her second pair of these pjs, and they have so many cute color options and sayings.

Matilda Jane

I typically turn to Matilda Jane for Hadley’s Easter dress each year. I know their dresses are great quality, will last a while, and Hadley can wear it to church, special occasions, or even summer vacations, so that makes their dresses worth the investment for me.

Oh Joy Dress

Target

Well ladies, some of these items may just work for you! The leopard flats, sandals, and 1/4 zip are from the Women’s Department at Target. haha!

This two piece was another Easter gift purchase, and Hadley already tested it out during our stay at the Opryland Gaylord.

Art Class Bikini Set

Every year, I get Hadley a pair of flats to wear with leggings or dresses because her foot continues to grow! For about two years now, she’s been wearing women’s sizes. These leopard print flats are super cute, and if I didn’t already have a pair of leopard flats, I would have snagged these for myself as well.

{She’s wearing them in the photo above with her Easter dress}

Universal Thread Ballet Flat // Little Girl Cat & Jack Option

Hadley loved the tan strapped version of these from last year. Those still barely fit, so I bought her the next size up with the white strap. Cute, comfy, and affordable!

Ava Skinny Strap Sandal

I’ve shared this quarter zip recently in a different blog post. Hadley saw it and loved the yellow color, and it seemed like a perfect spring option for cool mornings (and chilly a classroom!) Obviously, she can wear this in the fall and winter too. {Looks like the price has dropped a bit, and it’s on Clearance!)

Universal Quarter Zip-Up Pullover

Sis will live in athleisure wear with leggings and joggers. She wore the joggers most of the winter months, and has them in a few colors. She still wears them now in warmer weather with a t-shirt.

All in Motion Joggers

These leggings are super cute and fun to wear with a t-shirt or long sleeves depending on the temperature! They have a side pocket which is a great feature as well.

Old Navy

Old Navy has so many cute options and great prices. Hadley was so excited when this dress and romper arrived that she tried them on for me and let me take her picture! And yes, she straightened her hair so she looks 16 😭

I had this romper in mind for the kids’ upcoming 5th grade graduation ceremony when I bought it. I wasn’t sure she’d like it, but she sure does! Even if she doesn’t wear it on the last day of school, she will get plenty of wear out of it on other days and occasions.

There are a few color options, and it’s 25% off!

Old Navy Romper // Target Ballet Flats

This cute little dress is only $10. I’m sure I will get her another one before summer because she’s worn this a ton and you can’t beat the price!

Old Navy Dress // Target Sandals

Aren’t girls’ clothes so much fun?! Also, no wonder her laundry pile is twice the size of Hayden’s! haha

Thanks so much for reading! I hope your week is off to a great start.

Monday Meals: Air Fryer Chicken

Hello and Happy Monday! It’s been a minute since I’ve shared a meal, and I don’t want to brag, but I’m getting the hang of my Air Fryer, y’all!

A couple of weeks ago, it was just me for dinner, so I decided to try chicken in my Air Fryer. I just did a spin on my Baked Chicken recipe and used the Air Fryer. I loved it so much that I made it again for the family using chicken tenders.

Ingredients:

  • Chicken
  • 2-3 eggs
  • Splash of milk (not pictured)
  • Salt and pepper
  • Panko bread crumbs
  • Italian bread crumbs
  • Grated Parm

*I like to use Italian bread crumbs for flavor, Parm for saltiness, and Panko bread crumbs for crunch.

Instructions:

  • Using two dishes, put eggs, splash of milk, salt and pepper in one, and bread crumbs, Panko, and a couple of small handfuls of grated parm in the other.
  • Dip the chicken in the egg wash and then the bread crumbs and place in your Air Fryer.

The automatic Air Fryer setting for chicken is 380 for 25 minutes. That is what I did with the chicken breasts the first time I made it, flipping halfway through. For this recipe, since I was using chicken tenders 15 minutes at 380 degrees (flipping once midway through) was enough to cook them just right.

  • Enjoy!

We had our dinner with bagged Caesar salad and Bob Evans mashed potoatoes.

The Air Fryer and dinner hacks like bagged salad and microwave mashed potatoes provided us with a healthy and hearty meal in less than 20 minutes!

Now that it’s springtime, next time, I’m going to serve this Air Fryer chicken with one of my favorite side dishes!

If you need more Air Fryer ideas, Tina (to_mimishousewego) on instagram shares so many awesome Air Fryer recipes!

What have you made in the Air Fryer recently? I’d love more ideas!

I hope you have a great week,
