Friday Favorites {#258}

Hello and happy Friday!

TGIF! After today, we only have one more Monday, one more Tuesday, two more Wednesdays, one more Thursday, and one more Friday…but who is counting?! haha

I saw a meme that said, “Am I finishing this school year or is it finishing me?”…and I think I’ve never related to a meme more!

As always, I’m linking up with Andrea and Erika for this week’s Friday Favorites.

Here are some favorites from the week:

With such a hectic weekend, I didn’t really recap the volleyball tournament in Gatlinburg or Mother’s Day last weekend, so let’s start there.

Last weekend was Hadley’s last volleyball tournament for club season. I’m glad they were able to go somewhere fun for their last tournament and a place that they’ve been to before so we knew the lay of the land. We arrived around 8:00 on Friday night and got settled in. Hadley found friends and hung out…and I found friends too and enjoyed a glass of wine. It was almost 11:00 before we went to bed and then had to be up at 6:00 both mornings since their team played in the early brackets on Saturday and Sunday.

With the early mornings, I guess the trade off is that we had most of Saturday afternoon and all of Saturday evening to do whatever we wanted. After the three Saturday games, the girls hit up the water park, and I was lazy in the hotel room! We ordered pizza for dinner and while the girls ate pizza and played cards, I hung out with a couple of the moms.

Sunday, they had two games in the silver bracket. They played well overall, but were bummed to lose their last game on Sunday to finish up the season. That being said, it was a great season and a fun weekend!

We got home around 4:30, and when I pulled down the street, I saw hanging ferns which are my traditional Mother’s Day gift, and new planters for the front porch. I got a bit of a nap before taking a shower. Then, the kids gave me flowers and a card, and Trav made a steak dinner!

The flowers are from this flower bar that we have in town…meaning it’s a bar where you can get a beverage but also pick out flowers?! I’ve never been, but the flowers Hayden and Trav picked out are so pretty.

We finished the night watching American Idol, and I was absolutely ready for bed.

I missed the tradition of church, pic with the kids and brunch for Mother’s Day, but this one was still good overall! I felt the love 🙂

I’ve made a commitment to get back to moving this week. On Monday, I went to the gym and did the elliptical for 30 minutes. Tuesday, I did a 20 minute workout at home and took Homer for a walk. Wednesday, I went for a 30 minute walk and then swung back by the house to pick up Homer for a lap around the block. He wasn’t his usual hyper self, and I was going to go further, but when he saw our street, he turned to go down it. I told Trav that later and that’s when Trav told me he’d already taken him for a walk that afternoon. Obviously, two walks isn’t too much exercise, but he must have been tired!

I have a couple of favorite outfits this week…

Y’all, I’ve shared these linen pants before (I have two pairs!), but then I saw a shorter version (by a different brand), and wanted to give them a try for spring/summer. I love them too! I did size up one based on the original ones I ordered and returned. I paired them with this button down that I love as well. Also, I purchased a new pair of my favorite sandals. I looked back and I bought my other pair that I wear all of the time in 2021. It’s crazy how the straps/buckle are still in great shape, but I’d worn them to the ground. When I put my new pair on, it was like my feet got a hug! Apparently, I really needed a new pair.

Another favorite outfit from the week includes my new favorite pants (jeans?) from Target. I’ve seen these “high-rise sailor wide leg ankle jeans” (try saying that five times fast!) everywhere, and last weekend when I was scrolling my phone, I noticed that they were $16.80! So, I ordered them and the blue and the beige color. I did size up one since they are high rise, and they fit perfectly. The price seems to be back to the original $28, but maybe they’ll go on sale again…and if not, they are definitely worth $28!

I wore them with another favorite Amazon blouse and my tried and true Amazon cardigan.

Look at this fun mail that I received! One of my mom’s friends who reads the blog (hi, Sheila!) sent me this search AND color Golden Girls book. Can you even?! This is such a thoughtful gift!

Bathroom update…we had the tub resealed, and it looks brand spanking new! We’d debated pulling the tub out and getting a new one, but our neighbor who has been helping us suggested getting our tub resealed. That saves on labor and cost, and it’s the original iron tub…so most likely whatever we replaced it with wouldn’t be the same quality.

She’s beautiful!

This weekend, I think we’ll get the shower head and tub fixtures installed, and that should pretty much wrap up this project! I truly love walking by the bathroom and seeing her in all her glory! I will share a before/after post soon.

Favorite Mom Meme:

Haha! This one is so true!

Weekly Recap:

The end of the school year schedule is really catching up with me, so I only have two other posts this week, but they were fun to write:

What are your weekend plans? We have a busy Saturday and a chill Sunday…which is kind of our “normal programming” these days.

The weather on Sunday looks beautiful, and I’d love nothing more than to sit on the back patio, get a little sun, and read a book!

I hope you have a great weekend.

Mother’s Day Recap

Hello and happy Tuesday!

I know many of my readers are moms, but I also know that Mother’s Day (and Father’s Day) can be very difficult for some.

When those days roll around, I truly do also think about those who are sad on those days. I’ve been the woman wanting to be a mom, and I’ve also been the mom really grateful for her three-year-old twins, but sad after a miscarriage. You just never know what people are going through or what they’ve experienced.

I’m really grateful for the thought and care that my kids and Travis show me on Mother’s Day. We have a few traditions which I appreciate, but I do miss the days of hand print gifts and snuggles.

This year, I slept in a bit (we all did), and I woke up to flowers, a card, and a gift.

Travis picked up Panera bagels, so we had those before heading to church. We joined our church five years ago on Mother’s Day. Life can get busy, but I appreciate when we have time to go to church, especially on Mother’s Day.

Recently, our church started doing name tags, and Hadley wanted to write my name tag:

How sweet, right?

After church, we came home for a bit. I noticed the two hanging ferns on the front porch. That’s my traditional gift which I really appreciate. I keep the ferns on the porch until Labor Day weekend. Every year, we seem to end up with a nest of baby birds in one of the ferns. I love that my Mother’s Day gift ends up being a spot for a mother to care for her babies until it’s time for them to spread their wings and fly. (I’m not ready for that actual symbolism of my own birds flying the nest yet!)

We got a quick pic (another tradition/miracle!)

We wanted to go somewhere for lunch where we could sit outside. We’d never been to the Burl Brewery, but it was really nice. They had the garage doors open, the sun was shining, the Kentucky baseball game was on, and they had flowers for moms!

I ordered the avocado toast, and it was delish.

The kids played pool for a bit…

…while Trav had a beer, and I enjoyed a grapefruit mimosa….served by one of my former students!

We were there for a couple of hours, and then we came home. I put my flowers in a vase and set up my NEW KINDLE! Thankfully, that was a seamless process. I’ve had my other Kindle for six or seven years, and it wasn’t holding a charge for very long and was slow to download. I had told Travis I wanted a new one, but that I’d get one this summer. I was pleasantly surprised!

Then, I sat on the front porch and called my mom. We’d sent her flowers, and I’m glad she enjoyed them.

Travis had moved the TV out to the back patio to finish watching the UK baseball game. So, after I hung up with my mom, I decided to go out back and finish my book.

The Many Lives of Mama Love was so good…very inspirational.

Then it was time for dinner. Travis grilled steaks, Hayden put the asparagus in the oven, and Hadley was in charge of the (mircowave) Bob Evans mashed potatoes. When she asked me to stir them at the midway point, I said, “No ma’am!”…and she said with exasperation, “Being a mom is SO HARD!” 😆

We had dinner on the patio. I forgot to snap a pic, but here’s an old photo….which was probably my Mother’s Day dinner last year. haha

Hadley had volleyball, so I took her. Then, when I came home, I decided to do a few of my “mom responsibilities” that I’d neglected throughout the day. I made a grocery list, swapped out the laundry and then tidied up a bit.

I picked Hadley up around 9:15, and we ended the day with ice cream!

Overall, it was a really great Mother’s Day. I saw so many friends sharing their kids’ high school prom pics this weekend, and a few have graduation coming up soon. It was hard for me not to think the next four years are going to fly by. Ok, enough about that. I think I will live in denial for a bit longer 😉

I hope your week is off to a great start.

Hello Tuesday?

Hello! How was your weekend? Ours was busy…busier than normal. So busy that I started this post on Friday, and never had time to complete it over the weekend.

I had good intentions of linking up with Holly and Sarah for Hello Monday…but since it’s now Tuesday, let’s just consider this a…

The kids ran in the district championship track meet. Thankfully, the rain held off, and it was great running conditions.

Hadley ran the 4×800 relay, 4×200 relay, 400, and 200. Hayden ran the 4×800 relay, 1600, and 3200. Overall, they had great performances. Hadley improved the most on her 400, and she’s qualified for state in it and some relays. Hayden was still feeling under the weather, but he gave it his all. This season, he has qualified for state in the 800, 1600, 3200 and a relay.

We went straight from school to home for them to change, and then didn’t go home until after 10:00. Friday was just the start of our marathon weekend.

Hadley’s final dance competition of the season was in Louisville this weekend. She had her two large group (line and production) dances on Saturday afternoon, so we left for Louisville around 11:30.

We went straight to the convention center, and she finished getting ready.

They had awards after one of the dances, and then her other large group dance. Then, she had a couple of hours of free time before the other awards. Some family came to watch her dances, so she had time with them. Travis went to check in to our hotel, and Hadley and I grabbed a bite to eat at Qdoba.

We walked to our hotel and were there about an hour. One of her friends was also staying at the Embassy Suites, so they hung out. Then, the adults had time for a happy hour beverage (one of the reasons Travis likes an Embassy Suites!) before walking back to the venue for awards.

Before each dance competition, the girls receive goody bags with snacks and other odds and ends. For this competition, they received these sunglasses. Can you tell they loved them?

Another thing in their goody bag was a little rubber duck, and a note that said “good luck duck” and the studio name. They were to give it to a dancer from another studio as good luck. I thought that was the sweetest idea.

After the awards, it was getting late, so we grabbed some dinner at Mussel and Burger Bar before going back to the hotel. The dinner was good, but we were so tired. Some of the girls hung out for a bit, but the adults were extra tired. Anyway, we got to bed at a decent time.

Sunday morning, Travis went to his mom’s house for a bit. Hayden had spent the night there. The girls slept in, but another mom and I met for the buffet breakfast. We received a pink carnation which was a nice touch!

Hadley got up and started to get ready. It takes her about an hour to do hair and makeup along with getting organized for the day. We checked out and left the hotel and walked back to the convention center.

Hadley had her two small group dances (jazz and lyrical), and they did an awesome job. Her lyrical performance brought me to tears (I was in my feelings this weekend, I guess!)

I’m just always amazed by her. We have no clue where she got her rhythm and grace, but I love watching her shine on stage.

Again, she had family in attendance, so she saw them afterwards before they left. Then, she and I went with her friend and mom to Chipolte for a quick bite to eat before awards.

The girls had such a fun two days…and they really loved those sunglasses!

I can’t believe the competition season is over. This is Hadley’s third competition season, and it’s been my favorite one yet! I know she’s thinking about what she has time for next year. She loves dancing, so we will see.

After the awards, I called my mom (it was her birthday as well as Mother’s Day) as we drove to Trav’s sister’s house for a quick early dinner. Then, we headed back to Lexington. We got home around 7:00.

The kids obliged for one more photo which I appreciate. We’d had a long and busy weekend, but we got the photo.

We all unpacked, and Travis and Hayden went on a bike ride. Hadley went to a friend’s house for a bit.

In Louisville, they’d given me flowers and a card as well as a gift card for a massage and facial. That sounds like the perfect thing to use once school gets out.

I put my flowers in a vase and then spent about an hour on the front porch enjoying the weather and reading a book. It was a great day.

I feel blessed that I got to spend the weekend watching the kids do what they love…run and dance!

Well, today we are home for election day, and let’s just say I can definitely use this time to get caught up on life. Well, truth be told, I probably won’t be caught up on life until June. Eight more days of school! haha

Friday Favorites {#113}

Hello and Happy Friday!

Not only am I counting down Mondays, now I’m focused on Fridays too. After today, we only have one more Friday in the school year (even though next Friday isn’t our last day.)

We’ve had a really great week filled with sports, school activities, and more!

As always, I’m linking up with Andrea and Erika for this week’s Friday Favorites.

Here are some favorites from the week:

I’m throwing it all the way back to last Friday. Oaks was such a fun day, and the weather ended up being great as well.

I shared that Travis was bummed about the outcome as Epicenter was the favorite that he’d hoped would win. That being said, he shared this on our family group text, and I thought it was the perfect message for the kids:

“To go” margs at a local restaurant are definitely a favorite especially on a chilly and rainy Saturday.

Mother’s Day was great! I was up before the kids (times have definitely changed!), but I received the sweetest card, we went to church, and we enjoyed brunch at a favorite place.

We also picked up my traditional Mother’s Day gift: ferns for the front porch. I think this weekend Travis plans on getting flowers for the front porch planters.

Another favorite this week has been the weather. It seemed to jump to summer, but I will take it! So far this spring, I’ve had to bring coats and blankets to Hayden’s baseball games, but this week has been filled with warmth and sunshine.

Hayden up to bat!

Hadley had her end of the year chorus concert last night. We enjoyed listening to the combined chorus and orchestra concert. The end of the year festivities are in full force.

WordPress alerted me of this fun milestone. I don’t write my posts for the likes, but it is fun when readers “like” and comment on posts. Like social media, I guess…engagement makes it better!

Favorite Mom Meme:

Laundry has always been a weakness. I’ve always tried to keep it to the weekend, and I’m ok with that plan. That being said, I think we still have some laundry in the dryer from last Sunday. Getting everything put away is the hardest part!

Bonus Fave: Flashback Friday:

This flashback from 2015 always cracks me up when it pops up in my Facebook memories. We’d gone to to the park with my brother, so he could take a few photos of my nephew for a Mother’s Day gift, I think. Hadley wanted her photo, and this is what we got…haha

It’s very much her personality both then and now!

Weekly Recap:

I was a busy blogger this week. Everything from gifts, to the Oaks, to my hometown and more! Here are the posts if you are interested:

What are your weekend plans? We have a track meet as well as a few other activities. The weather continues to look great, so I hope we get some flowers planted and cross a few more things off our “to do” lists!

See you back here on Monday. Have a great weekend!

Friday Favorites {#68}

Hello and Happy Friday! We’re in the midst of the craziness of May. On top of school and regular activities, the end of the school year field day, teacher gifts, 5th grade graduation prep (and more!) is ongoing.

We have so much to celebrate in the upcoming days, so I’m embracing the busyness, and trying to enjoy these moments as we wrap up the school year and ease into summer.

In true Friday fashion, I’m linking up with Andrea and Erika for this week’s Friday Favorites.

Sit back and grab your cup of coffee…I have quite the list of Friday Favorites today!

Hayden’s baseball team is on a roll. They’ve won six of their last seven games.

He’s had a couple games this week, and Hayden pitched on Monday night and did a great job.

I love seeing his smile!

Hadley had recital photos last week, and they turned out beautifully.

Mother’s Day was lovely.

Cards are my favorite! One from Hayden, one from Hadley, and one from both!

Church and then…

brunch which was delicious.

Along with the cards and my hanging ferns for the front porch, Travis had these planters made which was a pleasant surprise.

Another favorite from the week was that we were able to get our backyard flowers planted. I also love this new riser that I picked up at the At Home store.

The kids both brought home their clay projects from art class. I will miss all the artwork and projects of elementary school.

Hayden’s dog…he said is Homer.

Hadley’s pastel pup!

Hadley wearing my glasses cracked me up! (and, why does she look 16?!)

A few gifts from Etsty came in this week.

This fun pencil sign for our sitter who just finished up student teaching,

Pencil Door Hanger

and I purchased another flower pot for a teacher gift.

Terra Cotta Flower Pot

Field day is always a fave. Hadley’s class helped the younger kids on Wednesday, and she had so much fun. The older kids had field day yesterday. Again, another thing we’ll miss about elementary school.

I have a couple of Amazon finds that I love. This shirt and sandals arrived last week, and I wore the combo to school. I’ve also already worn the shirt with jeans to go out to dinner, and I’ve worn the sandals a few other days as well.

// Babydoll Blouse //

// Sandals //

School outfit this week:

but I did put my cardigan on because my classroom tends to be chilly.

Favorite Mom Meme:

Only two more days of waking the kids up for school before summer begins. The wakeup struggle continues to be real…especially for Hayden.

Bonus Fave: Flashback Friday

Well, I don’t know why I do this to myself, but in the spirit of field day, here are the kids on the morning of their kindergarten field day!

Weekly Recap:

Here are my posts from this week!

This weekend is suuuuppper busy. We have family visiting, my mom’s birthday, baseball and more! Then, just two days left of the school year.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend. Thanks so much for reading.

Mother’s Day Gift Ideas

**I shared this post earlier in the week, but all of the items are my favorites and perfect for this week’s Friday Favorites. I’m linking up with Andrea and Erika, so check out their posts too!

With Mother’s Day just around the corner, I wanted to go ahead and share some ideas. ❤️

I saw this meme on Sunday, and thought it would be fun to put together some gift ideas for mom. Also, these could be gift ideas for yourself (I do that sometimes…like every Friday after I’ve survived another week of home schooling 😉) or ideas for birthdays, anniversaries, etc.

Of course, now you are down to about 10 days!

When I saw this meme, I really did get sad for a second. I love when the kids bring home cute crafts from school for me and there’s nothing better than a homemade card! For Father’s Day, I always print one of those fill in the blank sheets “All About Dad” with Dad’s favorites, etc. The kids’ responses are always so cute.

Per tradition, the kids and Travis know all I would like for Mother’s Day is a card, two hanging ferns for our front porch, no fighting…and maybe an hour of peace and quiet. The past couple of years we’ve gone out for brunch…and I will miss that this year. Since I do most of the cooking, I do take a break on Mother’s Day, and Travis usually grills out or we get carryout from a local restaurant.

To be honest, Travis is a great gift giver. Most years, on top of the traditional gifts, he (and the kids!) usually come up with something special like a framed sign with a saying, a gift card to somewhere I’d probably never go on my own, or a sweetly completed craft project.

Pinterest always has cute craft ideas for Mother’s Day. One year, Travis painted a wooden crate, and then the kids put their names and hand prints on it. Then, they filled it with flowers. It was a perfect addition to our back porch. A framed photo is always a sweet idea as well. I think all moms really want is to feel appreciated by maybe sleeping in a bit, not doing any household chores, or getting to stay out of the kitchen.

I posted some recent favorites of mine last week, but here are a few more ideas that are extra special!

9. I have this Amazon blanket in gray. It’s warm and cozy.

10. I have two pairs of these flip flops from Nordstrom. They are my faves and would be a perfect gift with some of mom’s favorite nail polish (I love OPI Bubble Bath and Funny Bunny!) or a nail salon gift card.

11. This “mom” ring dish (can be customized) is so pretty and perfect for mom’s dresser or jewelry drawer.

12. These vases from Rustic Roots would be a wonderful surprise for mom. Just fill them with flowers!

Y’all, mom doesn’t need anything fancy; she just wants to feel the love. Of course, I’m sure she wouldn’t be mad if she received something comfy, stylish, or sparkly to go with that sweetly signed Mother’s Day card.

I hope you find an idea or two for mom, for yourself, or for someone special.

P.S. someone may need to forward this to Travis. Just in case. 😉

Have a great weekend!
