Monthly Report

Hello and happy Monday!

Why oh why do the weekends go by so quickly?! This weekend, I feel like I need one more day to recover from the weekend.

Today I’m sharing this month’s edition of my Monthly Report.

Reading–

I just finished reading and listening to The Calamity Club, and I thought it was so good. When I started reading it, I was a bit overwhelmed by the length, but I got it read in two weeks. I had quite a few people tell me how great the audio book was, so I tried out Audible for the first time. I love that I could sync between the audio and my Kindle, so I was able to listen when I was in my car or on a walk, and then I could read on my Kindle otherwise. The two narrators for Meg and Birdie were great. I tried to listen to the chapters with Meg because her voice was just perfect. Even if I was reading, I could “hear” both voices thanks to the chapters I listened via audio.

Up next…I started reading Writers & Lovers. I had it saved as a TBR on my Goodreads, but I’m not sure who recommended it. I’m about 25% into it, and I’m not sure what I think just yet.

Enjoying –

Even though it was still so hot this weekend, I decided to decorate for fall. Hadley helped me haul the bin up from the basement, and I pulled out some of my favorite pieces. I don’t go overboard for fall, but I really did simplify this year. I’m enjoying the decor, and I think the temps might cooperate this week!

Prioritizing–

I’m definitely prioritizing my time at school in order to stay caught up. My students still have chromebooks, and I use Canvas to post daily agendas and some assignments, but I’ve moved back to mostly assignments on paper. So, whenever I have the chance, I’m grading. I still love my rolling podium, and if I need to be out in the hall, I can roll it out there and grade during hall duty. Also, with assignments on paper, that means I have to make more copies which is one of my least favorite things to do. Anyway, since I spend some of my planning making copies, I usually bring some papers to grade while while doing that task. I just find if I can utilize pockets of time, I can stay pretty caught up. Today, I have to post our six week progress grades which is hard to believe!

Obsessing –

Well, Saturday night was Homecoming, and I’m obsessing over the photos. I took a few of Hadley with her date as well as some with her friends, but one of the dads has a good camera, and I appreciated all the snapshots he got and shared.

I’m so thankful that Hadley has such a wonderful core group of friends.

This dress was stuck in Michigan for a while, and then was deemed lost…but thankfully another one was sent with a few days to spare. Hadley’s shoes are from Amazon, and Hadley gives them two thumbs up.

Too cool for me!

What a great group. They braved the heat for photos, had dinner out, went to the dance, and then hung out for a while afterwards.

One thing about dances these days is you have to factor in Tik Tok transitions into the schedule! Hadley went to a friend’s house at 3:00 to get ready, and then the guys came over around 5:00 followed by photos at 6:00 and dinner at 7:00. Hadley was excited because a Tik Tok the girls made is going viral on TT. Oh, to be a teen!

Recommending-

I’m recommending these little ruffle socks. I haven’t purchased socks in the longest time, but I ordered these, and they are great! I love the ruffle detail.

Teaching and Treating:

As I shared last week, I’m reading The Odyssey with my English 1 classes; we got to the Cyclops part at the end of the week which is always a favorite part.

I’m wrapping up the poetry unit this week with my Advanced classes, and we will start the short story unit after fall break.

I’m treating myself to an apple cider donut from Trader Joe’s. I don’t eat much for breakfast, but I treated myself to one for dessert last night. ‘Tis the season for apple cider and pumpkin things!

I hope you have a great Monday. Just five days stand between me and fall break! It’s going to be a busy week of school, but maybe that will make it fly by!

Friday Favorites {#278}

Hello and happy Friday!

I don’t think I’ve needed to make it to Friday this badly in quite some time! This week has been a doozy. I feel like re-entry after fall break the past couple of weeks has felt like the first few weeks of school all over again.

As always, I’m linking up with Andrea and Erika for this week’s Friday Favorites.

Here are some favorites from the week:

HoCo:

Last weekend was all about Homecoming! The kids went to the football game, and had a great time.

Saturday morning, Hadley and friends got together for “brunch and bouquets.” One of the moms hosted, and I thought it was such a thoughtful idea and a fun way for the girls to hang out.

They had a great time eating brunch and arranging their flowers.

After that, one of Hadley’s friends came over for a bit before they joined a few friends to finish getting ready for the dance.

Around 5:00, a big group of kids met up for pictures. Hadley’s date had a beautiful bouquet for her which was a lovely gesture.

They’ve been friends for quite a few years, and he’s one of Hayden’s friends too.

All the girls looked so pretty…and loved taking all the photos. The boys were good sports about it.

We snagged a pic with Hadley before she went to dinner with her date.

He actually goes to another school, but both of the Homecoming dances were on the same night. So, they took pictures with Hadley’s friends (he knows quite a few of them too), and then they went to dinner with his friends and the dance at his school.

Afterwards, Hadley came home and gave us a few details of the evening. Then, she went to a friend’s house for the after party. Hayden went too and joined some of his friends there. He was home around midnight while Hadley spent the night at the friend’s house. I had to wait up until midnight, and I guess I’m getting a glimpse of my future.

After the pics, Travis and I went out for an early dinner at a place we’ve only been to once before. We sat on the patio, and said “cheers” to surviving all day HoCo prep!

Other faves:

While we were on fall break, one of the breakfasts that was planned was cinnamon rolls. I buy Sister Schubert rolls often, but I’d never seen the cinnamon rolls. Once we got home, I added a couple to my Kroger order. I made a pan on Sunday morning…

…and they were delish!

I went to Hobby Lobby (again) this week, and picked up a couple of LED pumpkins for my classroom. I have these same ones at home, and just thought they’d be a nice festive touch at school. Some of my students have commented on them!

I have this cute one on my desk:

Yesterday, our principal treated us to ice cream which was so thoughtful. It truly has been such a long week, so this was a great way to cap off the day.

Oh…we really need to get it together in the morning…all of us! haha

Well, I didn’t mean to ghost you this week. I shared a post on Monday, and I had good intentions of at least writing one other this week, but it just didn’t happen.

Share Our Lives

This weekend, Hadley has one final volleyball tournament, and then it’s a wrap for the JV team. Sunday looks to be rainy, and I hope to spend some time reading and maybe watching Father of the Bride in honor of Diane Keaton’s passing. What a legend!

Friday Favorites {#226}

Hello and happy Friday!

Well, I can’t believe it, but today is our last day of school before fall break! I feel like the first couple of weeks of school moved slowly, but September sure felt like it flew by.

As always, I’m linking up with Erika and Andrea and for this week’s Friday Favorites.

I have quite a few favorites, so here we go:

Friday, two students gave me friendship bracelets they made me. One of them is a combo of their names, and the other stands for “we need to talk” because that’s what they always say when they come and ask me a question. It was such a sweet gesture!

My brother’s family got a new pup a few weeks ago. Growing up, our family dog was a Doberman, and my brother wanted one for his family. Tucker is a handful, but he’s a cutie…especially when he’s sleeping 😉

Hayden had a meet in Louisville last Saturday, and he had another PR. The high school races are so different than the middle school ones. I’m lucky to see him once in the hundreds of runners and the races are longer which means I feel like I’m waiting forever to see him!

My dad was in town last week and got to see Hayden’s race.

Hadley had a tournament in Louisville on Saturday as well.

So, after Hayden’s race, we made our way to the tournament. The Major got to see that activity as well.

Right after the tournament ended, we hurried home. I had to wake up at 5:00 that morning, so I was ready to get home and take a quick nap before all of the Homecoming activities started.

Hadley had a couple of friends come over to get ready around 3:30. Once they were ready, I dropped them off at dinner with their group before meeting for pictures before the dance.

Hadley’s date brought her flowers, and they were so pretty.

Hadley and her friends all looked beautiful.

We continue to have good luck with finding dresses online. This was the first dress we ordered, and Hadley loved it.

Look at this crew…they all went to elementary school together, and have been friends for ten years!

Yes, Hayden is friends with the same crew…but didn’t have Homecoming on his freshman year Bingo card 😉 Once he found out it cost money for the ticket, he was out! haha (I did tell him I’d give him money for the ticket, but no dice on that offer.)

Can you believe this entire crew got a dinner reservation at the same restaurant? We reminded them to tip (at least!) 20%. 😉

They all went to the dance for a bit and then Hadley hung out with some friends after the dance. Overall, I think they had a great time.

Favorite Meal:

I’ve probably shared this recipe before, but I made One Pot Chicken Alfredo again this week, and it was a hit. One of my pet peeves is boiling water and having to wait on it to put my pasta in. I love a one pot recipe where the noodles cook in the same dish as the rest of the ingredients!

Favorite Mom Meme:

The number of times I ask kids to pick up their shoes…

Bonus Fave: Flashback Friday

Look at this toothless pic from 2015. My kids loved playing soccer when they were little. They were on team Force and had both scored three goals each! Confession: I’m glad the soccer years are over. I know we do club seasons in other sports, but soccer seems intense! Both kids have friends who play competitively, and it seems like a huge commitment.
