Friday Favorites {#97}

Happy Friday! How was your week? You know how sometimes the short weeks feel the longest? Well, a short week due to a Monday holiday and two snow days sure did make this week feel long. I’m not mad about a few snow days, but my family just still isn’t really in a routine which can make the days seem extra crazy and extra long.

As always, I’m linking up with Andrea and Erika for this week’s Friday Favorites.

This week, I’m sharing my favorites day by day.

Saturday:

My favorite from Saturday was the cookie cake Travis and the kids got me for my birthday. I love that tradition, and of course, the cookie cake was delish.

Sunday:

A big WIN for the Chiefs was a favorite of mine…and a favorite for Hayden too!

Monday:

An obvious favorite from Monday was having the three day weekend.

It also would have been Betty White’s 100th birthday. Have you seen Google? When you type in her name, roses float down the screen. What a tribute!

Have you seen this post? What a beautiful sentiment.

Also, Hadley had been wanting to watch Sing 2, so we did that. It is such a sweet movie. We all loved it.

Tuesday:

Well, Tuesday was a snow day, but it was a NTI (non-traditional instruction) day for us….our first ever NTI snow day. The kids did a great job completing their work, and we are thankful to not have to add these days to the end of the year.

In the evening, I met up with my friend for drinks and an appetizer. She gave me the sweetest birthday gift. It was so great to catch up with her.

Wednesday:

Wednesday, we had school…which was honestly a favorite. I’m in the midst of planning our school’s credit recovery session, and I needed to get quite a few things accomplished.

Then, I had a great surprise when I get home. My new T3 curling iron arrived. Do you follow @mommaflum (another teacher named Jennifer!) on Instagram? A couple of weeks ago she shared some of the T3 products that she loves because T3 had a sale going on. I messaged her to ask about the curling iron, and she realized it wasn’t on sale. Anyway, over the weekend, she messaged me to say the curling iron was on sale which I thought was so sweet of her to do. I would never spend $160 on this, but with the sale, it was $100 off, so I used birthday money to treat myself.

Hadley has already used it! I’m going to give it a try over the weekend.

Thursday:

Well, we woke up to about 3 inches of snow which meant another NTI day.

…and snow cream for a mid-morning snack!

Part Husky Homer thinks the snow is so fun, and we love watching him run laps in the backyard!

I love snow too! If it’s going to be cold, then I’m all about the snow. By mid-February, I will be ready for spring.

Favorite Mom Meme:

I’m Team Forever Needs a Nap!

Bonus Fave: Flashback Friday

This photo from 2016 popped up in my Facebook memories yesterday. I remember taking this photo on a snow day. Hadley has always been able to sleep anywhere, and she sure was worn out!

Weekly Recap:

I had a few posts this week including a recap of the weekend, sharing my favorite cookbooks, and some quick lunch ideas.

Well, as I finished typing this, we got the call that we have another NTI day today. While the roads are in better condition than the snow earlier this week, the temps are frigid and some side streets are still icy. Honestly, I think our sub shortage is also an issue. Maybe next week will be more “normal.”

This weekend, Hayden has some basketball, and then we’ll be cheering for the Chiefs and hoping for another win.

Thanks so much for reading!

  1. You all have gotten so much snow! Meanwhile…not much here! I think you are right about taking advantage of NTI for sub reasons. We are back in the building today and wondering if students will be with us Monday. 9 days now without them.
I need a new curling iron! I love that Lulu bag and have thought about getting something like that. Cookie cake!

    1. I don’t think I ever told you, but I covered a Spanish class a few hours four days last week! I😂 a teacher friend said we had 200 unfilled positions in the district today (before snow day). I will let you know about the curling iron. Crazy enough, when I opened my gift, I laughed and told my friend I have a black Lulu bag on the way. I used my bday money for the bag & curling iron 😂

      1. OOOOH, how fun! What were they working on? Any good ideas for me? I didn’t know the Lulu bags were so good. I looked at a few and I’m intrigued. Love me a bag! I have too many!

      2. They were doing a research project with a topic for each day- foods, music, etc
I guess it’s technically a Fanny pack, but I’ve seen most wearing if crossbody. I will probably return the one I ordered when it arrives because I don’t need two…or maybe I will give it to hadley. I used it last night to go to dinner and basketball game. Just threw in my debit card, phone, keys rather than carry about my purse. It actually holds a lot. Only $30ish I think. I’ve had people ask so maybe I can share about it next week 😅

  2. I love cookie cakes! I always forget about them when it’s time to celebrate! For your NTI days, is there live virtual instruction or do teachers post work for kids to do? I would love posted work or a modified schedule to make the day count. I always say unless it’s a big snow, I’d rather spend the day at the pool in June than inside on a cold winter day. I’m curious about the Lululemon bag. When will you use it? It’s super cute! Have a great weekend! Good luck to the Chiefs!

    1. For NTI, teachers post work to Canvas and it can’t be new instruction. Then, the district set two different hour windows of time for elementary, middle and high teachers to be on zoom if a student needs help. Then, students have three days past the NTI to turn in work. So, Tuesday’s work technically wasn’t due until today. That way, hopefully we are back in school between NTI for students who may not have been able to complete the work. Attendance is marked three days later based on completion. I love a few snow days but never want to be in after Memorial Day :)I would have been annoyed by today’s day off but thankful for NTI 🤣

    2. Oh! The lulu bag- it’s technically a Fanny pack but I most wear it as a cross body. I have it right now with just my phone, keys, and small wallet at the basketball game. I think it will be perfect for the summer to throw in my pool bag or take to baseball games if that makes sense
