Day in the Life

Hello!

How is it already Thursday? This week is flying by.

On a whim, I decided to capture a “day in the life” on Tuesday when we had a day off from school.

I look forward to this particular day off every year. It’s a random Tuesday in November which made Monday more tolerable. It’s nice not to set an alarm, vote, and get some things accomplished on a day where I would have been at school.

Anyway, here’s a peek at my Tuesday:

I woke up around my normal 6:00 time, but I knew because it was so dark out it still must be early. I refused to get up before 7, and actually dozed off for another hour or so.

When I woke up, I remembered that I had laundry in the wash that I had started the night before. Monday night, I went to bed earlier than I usually do which meant I forgot about this load that needed moved to the dryer.

While my coffee was brewing, I went ahead and made some pumpkin muffins for the kids to have for breakfast. On Sunday, I made a list for Tuesday of things I didn’t get accomplished over the weekend (which is another reason why I love this day off), and making some muffins was one of those things.

Yes–I have my tree up. I put it up on Saturday night. We usually get a real tree for the living room, but last year after we dragged it out of the house and had a mess of water and dry tree needles everywhere, Travis declared, “never again!” So Hadley helped me pick this one out at Home Depot (no, it’s not the viral Tik Tok one) this past weekend.

I still have my fall decor out, so be prepared for holiday whiplash if you come visit me.

Hadley also picked out his mug for me at a recent trip to Michaels.

I scrolled my phone, read a few blogs, and watched an episode of Southern Charm while the kids slept in.

After that, I added some pictures to my Wednesday blog post and saved that on my phone.

Then, it was time to wake up Hadley. (Hayden got up around 9:00) and do my morning skincare routine….

…before making my bed.

I gave the kids their instructions for the day. Hayden had to mow the yard one final time this season, and Hadley had to finish bagging the leaves. Like me, they are good at putting off weekend things for the Tuesday day off.

Then, I went to vote!

After that, I had two errands. I needed to return a Christmas tree to At Home, and I stopped at Walmart….where I picked up two more trees. haha (as well as a few other odds and ends)

While I was running my errands, I missed a call from Hadley. She was requesting Starbucks, and her mind was blown that I wasn’t near one. “But mom, they are everywhere!!” haha

Anyway, I didn’t have time for a Starbs run because I needed to get back home to grab lunch before my appointment.

I’m back trying to eat low carb on Mondays and Tuesdays which you can probably tell by my plate.

Then, I decided to unload the dishwasher before heading to…

…my monthly facial. I had my favorite combo: dermaplane and chemical peel! It was nice and relaxing.

Hadley and her friend had been bagging the leaves, so I did pick them up Starbucks. Hadley is pretty distinguished with placing orders on the app for pick up.

Once I was home, I had about an hour before the kids’ dental appointment, so Hadley helped me with the pencil tree that I put in our bedroom.
I bought this tree in 2020, and it’s become a tradition to put it up on Election Day. In 2021, I bought another one for the sunroom. Hadley has requested a bigger tree for her room, so I put that one in her room this year instead.

Then, it was time for the dentist. They just had their cleaning appointments, and it still feels so odd to me just sending them back…well, one at a time.

Hayden wanted to act like he didn’t know me 😉 (really, he had a better view of the tv from that spot while Hadley was getting her teeth cleaned)

Once we got home, I did a few things around the house, and then took a few minutes to finish up yesterday’s post.

Travis has been super busy with the November horse sale, and he had his longest and busiest day. He left early in the morning, and wasn’t home until after 10!

So, because of that, I didn’t have big plans for dinner.

Hallelujah! We had leftovers!

Hayden was playing Xbox, and Hadley had math homework to finish, so we all just kind of ate whenever we wanted to.

After that, Hadley clicked around looking for a dress for the next cotillion dance.

Then, Hayden had an 8:15 basketball game…on a Tuesday night… *sigh*

Hayden had a great game, but we weren’t home until almost 9:30.

Everyone took turns showering, and I did my PM skincare routine before…

…settling in to start a new book and wait for Travis to get home.

Once he got home, he still had work to do, but the rest of us went to bed.

It was a good day with a little downtime, some productivity, and crossing some things off my list!

    1. I usually don’t schedule appointments on days off because on a day off I don’t want to be told where to go but …those two appointments had to be rescheduled and that day was an option, so I went for it. At least it wasn’t the morning. Haha and yes! Late game. Travis definitely would have been the one take him.

  1. That is a super productive day off! Our county always has teachers do in-service on election day, so it’s more of a scramble to find babysitters around here :/

Good for you having your Christmas trees up! I can’t even think of moving into the holiday season yet… We are celebrating some birthdays this weekend and then it will be time to switch to Christmas mode.

Isn’t it nice not to have to cook dinner once in a while??

    1. Many counties around here have teacher in service days too. I’m thankful we don’t. My kids’ birthday is soon, and I used to never put Christmas stuff up before that, but now just do it when I have time. It’s always so much effort.

  2. I love your pencil tree and also the new ones from Walmart! What a productive day off! I just had a facial today…so relaxing and helpful for clearing my face up. Our schools don’t have a day off for election day.
