Hello from wind blown Kentucky. As I mentioned in Friday’s post, we didn’t have school Friday due to potential dangerous storms. While we didn’t lose any trees or have an destruction to our home, we’ve been without power since 5pm Friday. We have friends whose trees fell onto their homes and there are downed power lines everywhere.
My seven pack of flameless candles sure have done their job!
Hadley’s dance competition in Louisville got postponed and postponed again before getting canceled. Hayden’s track meet was still held in Louisville yesterday, so we decided to keep our Louisville hotel for Saturday night. I got a pretty good night’s sleep, we charged all the things, I washed and blow dried my hair, and we had a warm breakfast.
As I type this from the hotel, we are still without power in Lexington. Apparently, this is the 3rd largest power outage in Lexington in the past 20 years. The latest estimate on the outage map is for power to be restored Wednesday at 11pm. I’m hoping they are giving us the “worst case” scenario. This is definitely the longest I’ve ever been without…that’s for sure.

The end of January and this month had a few purchases for dance, some clothes, a few Valentine’s Day gifts, and some other odds and ends.
For dance competitions, Hadley needed to replenish a few things:
- They all wear the same shade of red lipstick.
- Hadley finds the magnetic eyelashes to be the easiest to put on because she doesn’t have to worry about using the glue.
- You can never have too many hair pins.
- Hair gel works better than hairspray.
I picked up a few “staple” items of clothing as well as a new sweater and Hadley’s dress for the dance.
- This blue sweater is a version of the pink turtleneck one that I love.
- This black basic long sleeve shirt is perfect to wear under my new SSYS tunic and other lightweight jackets.
- I love these joggers, and I had them in two colors. When I purged my closet last summer, I donated a pair of gray ones, and only had the navy color left. Anyway, I wanted to repurchase a pair because I’d forgotten how much I wear them in the spring.
- Hadley really wanted a pink dress for the dance, and she found this one. She got an XS, and we still had to get it altered, but she loved it, so it was worth it.
A few other purchases:
- I’ve ordered these electric toothbrushes a few times. The kids and I all use them, and Hayden needed a new one.
- I purchased these alarm clocks for the kids for Valentine’s Day. Besides being an alarm clock, they also have a night light (different color options) and sound machine built in too. Hadley uses the ocean sound like she did on her previous sound machine. Hayden uses the birds chirping as his alarm sound…let’s just say he needs something a little louder to wake him up!
- I’m helping quite a few students who are reading Romeo and Juliet, and many teachers use the “No Fear” version with the play on one side and the translation on the other side. I picked up a couple to keep in my room, so students don’t have to bring them back and forth.
- I need to do a better job cleaning my rings, and this “Diamond Dazzle” has been a quick and easy way to touch up my rings.
- I re-ordered my collagen for the third time. I add a scoop to my coffee every morning. I’m trying to keep up with this routine.

I am so sorry, but glad you had the hotel and something to keep you busy Saturday into Sunday. We are off again today. My friend’s estimate is also Wed. night! This is the time when you are glad you are a candle/flameless candle hoarder. Are you off today?
I really like that lipstick for its staying power and the pink dress looks like pretty good quality. Have you heard of Beauty coffee? It is a K cup with the collagen already in it and I have thought about doing one of those a day. I have never done any collagen.

Yes no school today. Apparently we still have 12-16 buildings without power? I haven’t heard of beauty coffee. Sounds interesting!

Same! I think we could even be out again tomorrow? ACT is Wed so that isn’t good.
I really hope you get your power back today. It is going to be 75 degrees today so that will help the workers and the people without power maybe?

I’m thankful for these nice days. Feels good to sit outside and kids will play outside. We were supposed to have ACT tomorrow, but the email the principal sent said it will be next week now.

That hotel stay sounds like a life saver! So sorry that Hadley’s dance competition was canceled; I know how hard all those kids have been working on their routine. Hopefully those power outage restorations are worst case scenarios but it does sound like that area got hit pretty hard.

The hotel was definitely nice. We almost stayed the night last night but decided to come on home because I needed to empty the fridge for trash day and we had homer with us. Even thought it is chilly in the house, we all wanted our beds. Thankfully we can still take a hot shower, and they will play outside with friends today.

Oh I get that! However, living out in the country, when we lose power we have no running water ( which means no toilets/ no showers, etc.) since we have a well and need power to run the pump. We also have an electric water heater so it would most definitely be cold anyway! I have literally lugged buckets down to the lake before to get water to flush the toilets… that is really not fun during a wind/rain storm! LOL.

Haha! Well, our chromebooks have also been a way to charge our phones, and I brought everything to o recharge. I’d already started the post, so I went ahead and finished it 🙂
