How was your week? It sure is feeling like summer around here with lots of sunshine and hot temps.
I’m going to need June to pump the breaks a bit!!
As always, I’m linking up with Andrea and Erika for this week’s Friday Favorites.
Here are a few favorites from the week:
Hadley coming home from camp was definitely a favorite. She had a great time, but I know she was happy to sleep in her own bed (and see us!)
On Monday evening, we celebrated Travis for Father’s Day. Since we were still waiting on our new air conditioner, we all ate dinner in the sun room where it was cooler, and then enjoyed some cake. He opened a couple of presents which included some shorts, a shirt, and this acupressure mat. He hadn’t mentioned wanting the mat, but I figured it would be something even the kids would use. He was actually really excited to receive it which was sweet.
Snickerdoodle Bundt cake for the win!
My niece’s birthday is in late May, and I hadn’t gotten her a present yet. She went with Hadley and me to the nail salon. The girls got manicures while I got a pedicure…
….Then, we got some ice cream on that hot summer day.
While it’s a expensive favorite, seeing my new thermostat finally find the 70’s in the house was really appreciated. We were tired of being hot.
I used to set our old a/c on 71 most days, and now, 73/74 really cools us off.
I’d seen some people share about the “all day rose'” Waterloo, so I thought I’d give it a try. It’s really good! It is kind of weird at first (in a good way) that, to me, the first few sips really do taste like rose’. After that, I feel like it just tastes like (good) flavored sparkling water.
Favorite Mom Meme:
This is so true! I can’t keep up with my kids’ changing tastes. haha
I hope your week is off to a great start. So far this summer I’ve had a hard time getting into a blogging routine. I think I feel pulled in many directions more than ever before! *sigh*
Anyway, I still wanted to recap our weekend because we had a good one and a really nice Father’s Day Sunday.
On Friday, I started my morning drinking coffee from my new favorite mug. I was back watching the Today Show rather than looking at mountain views, but it’s always nice to be home.
Honestly, I spent most of the afternoon at school getting ready for the next two weeks of summer school….so nothing exciting there.
Although…since I knew I’d be at school during lunchtime, I picked up Chick-fil-a before getting to school. I tried something new (to me) – the chicken Cobb salad with half avocado lime dressing and 1/2 honey mustard dressing. It was so good.
That evening, Travis and Hayden went to Hayden’s basketball game and then out to dinner.
Our friends had some neighbors over for “movie night,” and Hadley went there around 7:00. I joined them a little after 8:00 after having the other half of my salad for dinner. We were there pretty late and went to bed as soon as we got home.
Saturday morning, I slept until 10! Honestly, I had a hard time falling asleep, so I probably got 8 hours of rest once I finally fell asleep….but 10:00 is unheard of for me. Then, I picked Homer up from groomer.
Travis and kids were gone most of the day, so I finished up with some Father’s Day things and did a few house chores and laundry. I went to Target, the library, and then picked up Trav’s Father’s Day cake.
While at Target, I saw individual cans of Olipop. I feel like influencers used to share this brand all the time, but I never knew they sold it at Target…even better that you can buy individual ones that are already cold. Anyway, the grape flavored one was so good!
Travis and the kids were on their way back in town, so they called me and I met them at Goodfella’s for pizza. It so nice that it’s patio weather right now.
On Sunday, Travis and I were up early. He went for a run, and I drank my coffee and watched tv.
Then, we left the house around 10:15 to make our way to Canoe Kentucky/Elkhorn Creek to kayak with friends.
On the way there, I called my dad to wish him a Happy Father’s Day. I had to time it before golf started! haha
We’ve done this one other time, and that time we were in a canoe. It was nice letting everyone have their own kayak, but that also meant I had to make sure everyone was keeping up/not far ahead or behind. That being said, the water level was pretty low, so I wasn’t too concerned about that. As a matter of fact, in some spots, we wished there was more water. haha
We kayaked for a bit and then make a pit stop. We were with three other families, so it was nice to pitstop and let the kids swim a bit.
Father’s Day photo:
The girls had lots of fun…
….as did the rest of us.
We kayaked about five miles which took around 3 hours.
After our kayak session, we were tired!….and hungry. In the shop, we picked up some drinks and let the kids get some ice cream.
Then, we made our way to West Sixth Farm.
We knew the dads would like a beer or two. They had a food truck, so we got some tacos too.
The perk of having older kids is they all just hung out while the adults chatted.
We were there about an hour before coming home. Everyone showered, and we ordered take out Thai food. Our friends had mentioned it, and we thought that sounded good (and easy!) too.
After dinner we celebrated Travis with cake…(instead of cookie cake, this year, I picked up an ice cream cake from Baskin Robbins)
…and a few gifts.
While Travis and I were out of town, my mom helped the kids with this Father’s Day present.
It turned out so cute.
They spray painted their Sonic drink carrier, made these tags, and picked up some supplies/goodies.
We also got him a new wallet (since he seems to lose his once a year, this is almost a tradition) and some running shorts.
I love this pic from Trav’s first Father’s Day in 2010. Obviously, the kids look much older, but he’s pretty much stayed the same! 😉
The rest of the evening, Travis and Hayden watched a movie, Hadley chilled, and I watched the end of the US Open.
Overall, it was a good weekend and a great Father’s Day.
I hope to find my blogging groove this week, but we’ll just see how it goes.
Hey! How’s your week going? Ours is off to a good start. We had crazy rain on Monday and then yesterday was crazy cool with only a high of 70. I think the rest of the week looks pretty normal with warmer temps. So, the kids had some lazy afternoon time on Monday, but yesterday I kicked them out of the house and told them to go find their friends!
Anyway, today I’m sharing how we celebrated Travis for Father’s Day. My dad was in town last week, so we grilled out when he was here, and I sent him a CD that he was wanting.
Of course, our Father’s Day weekend was dictated by baseball. Hayden’s Saturday games got rained out, but they scrimmaged another team on our fields for a few hours Saturday afternoon. Once we got the tournament schedule for Sunday, and it seemed like we could be at the ball park all day, we decided to celebrate on Saturday night when we knew we’d have more time to do so.
After we cleaned up from the scrimmage games, we headed out to dinner.
We ate at Agave and Rye where we ordered chips and all the dips. Travis had a margarita and I prickly pear marg with sugar on the rim. Sooo good. We all tried different tacos, and they were delish as well.
Then, we headed to a new milkshake place in town called Cattywampus Station. There’s another location in a town nearby that we’d never been to, so we were excited to try this one that just opened in Lex. Milkshakes are their specialty!
Just look!
We got the cookies and cream as well as a Reese’s cup one! They are quite impressive. Yes, that’s a regular sized cupcake on the milkshake, and then there’s a brownie on top of the other milkshake.
We did take of the cupcake and brownie and put them in a “to go” box to have later. Then, we shared the milkshakes. They were so good.
Afterwards, the kids fed the ducks at the nearby pond, and took a couple of Father’s Day photos with Trav.
We headed home to watch some of the Olympic Track and Field trials! We all love watching the Olympic coverage.
Sunday morning, Travis and Hayden headed out very early for the first game. I hung back to let Hadley sleep in. Since we didn’t know what time we’d be home, we went ahead and set out Trav’s gifts (a couple of shirts, a few Harry’s products (shave cream and hair gel), and a Kova Bluetooth speaker set) for him to open whenever we got home.
Hadley and I made it in time for the 1:30 game. Well, the Crush kept on winning after losing their first game on Sunday. They played three games on Sunday to make it to the championship game against a team they lost to in the Saturday scrimmage and on Sunday morning.
But….the Crush jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first inning, and ended up winning 9-7!
The boys were so excited to earn their tournament championship rings.
They had a great day full of games, hard work, team work, prayers and popsicles!
Hayden couldn’t quit smiling! Their determination paid off.
After 12+ hours at the ballpark, we were hot, sweaty, and tired, but all the dads agreed that it was the best Father’s Day present to see their boys come out on top!
We didn’t get home until after 9:00, so we picked up Jimmy John’s for dinner followed by the dessert Hadley made: Amy’s Lemon Freezer Pie.
She made it Saturday afternoon because we just weren’t sure what time we’d have on Sunday. It must have sloshed around a bit when we shut the freezer drawer because it looked a little lopsided when we got it out on Sunday night. It still tasted delish. I add a dollop of Cool Whip on top of each slice when serving.
Trav’s the best! The love and support he shows the kids are beyond measure. He’s there for anything from homework help to baseball practices to dance recitals and all the moments in between.
I know he had a great day (weekend!), and we had so much fun celebrating him!
