Friday Favorites {#225}

Hello and happy Friday!

How was your week? We had a great week, but I’m getting annoyed with the weather. I can honestly handle 80 degrees, but I’m over the 90 degree temps!

As always, I’m linking up with Andrea and Erika for this week’s Friday Favorites.

Here are some favorites from the week:

‘Tis the season at Trader Joe’s. I made a stop at Trader Joe’s on Saturday and picked up some of my regular items as well as some fall favorites.

I did resist the temptation to buy some front porch pumpkins, but I hope to do that this weekend.

Not a favorite…on my walk back to my car, this startled me….

…like I had bags in both my hands, and I jumped back startled! A couple others walking near me asked if I was ok…and then saw the hand. haha

This is a blurry photo, but it’s a screen shot of a video. On Saturday, Travis was working, so Hayden convinced Hadley to follow him on her bike for his ten mile run. She was biking and had her blue tooth speaker on her handle bar, so they got to listen to some tunes. The video was shared on his running club’s Instagram page, so that was a nice shout out after running 41 miles last week. It was sweet that Hadley obliged Hayden’s request…especially since she had to get up early to do so.

Saturday night, the kids went to the UK game. Travis had to work late, and I had things to do at home. So, they went with friends, and Hadley shared this pic with me.

They had fun with their friends (and cousins), but were bummed about the 13-14 loss to Georgia. I guess I’m getting a glimpse of the next few years as at close to midnight I was waiting for them to get home.

On Sunday, I had time to decorate fall. I was so happy to turn on my pumpkins and light my fall candles!

Also, y’all …no lie. I didn’t buy a single new fall decoration…except…

… a new garden flag. The fall garden flag that I’ve had for years, was showing its age. So, I ordered this cute one from Amazon. It’s less than $10, and seems to have all of the initial options. I was so pleasantly surprised with the quality too!

The spider webs were just an added touch from nature!

Since I pretty much decorated the same as last year, I’m not sure if I will do a “fall home tour” post this year. Here’s last year’s post in case you are interested!

Of course, we had some volleyball this week. Hadley had one away game and one home game, and they won both! Her away game was at a brand new school about thirty minutes away, and the gym was amazing.

Favorite Recipe:

On Wednesday night, I tried a new recipe. It was sooo easy, and it was delicious as well. Chicken Broccoli Cheese Casserole will definitely be added into the dinner rotation.

Where is the lie?

Weekly Recap:

The week got away from me, but I did have a couple of posts this week:

What are your weekend plans? Tonight and tomorrow will be very busy for us as it’s Homecoming weekend. On top of that, Hayden has a race tomorrow and Hadley has a volleyball tournament. I guess Sunday will be our day of rest.

I hope you have a great weekend.

Hello and happy Friday (the 13th!)

Are you superstitious? I am…about the number 13! That being said…fun fact: this is my 1,113th post that I’ve shared.

How was your week? We’ve had a really good full week, but I’m definitely ready for the weekend.

As always, I’m linking up with Andrea and Erika for this week’s Friday Favorites.

Here are some favorites from the week.

Taking it back to last weekend, I went with Hadley to Sevierville, TN for the team’s volleyball tournament.

Usually, the varsity team goes to Chicago in October, but this year, the boosters and coaches decided to pay for all three teams to go to this tournament. The girls left from school on Friday morning, rode a charter bus, received goody bags, and had all their meals paid for….and…bonus – they stayed at The Wilderness at the Smokies Lodge which has an indoor water park.

It was so fun to watch all three teams all weekend. The freshmen team played in the JV tournament, and had three games Friday night. We didn’t get back to the hotel until around 10:30. They won all three games.

Since the girls won all their games, they didn’t have to be up super early as their first game wasn’t until 11:00. They won their first game that morning which was the last pool play game. They grabbed some lunch, and played a couple of hours later. Since they were 4-0, they made it to the gold (best) bracket of the JV tournament. Unfortunately, they lost the first tournament game in three sets…and the last set’s score was 14-16! It was a nail biter.

They played their hearts out and ended up 6th/22 teams in the gold bracket.

We made our way back to the hotel, and the girls had time at the water park, hanging out in their rooms, and playing games in the arcade. They had a team dinner and ran around a bit more until time for bed.

The moms almost didn’t know what to do with ourselves since we didn’t have to be in charge of our daughters. haha

Another mom and I rode one of the water slides, and then we all met another friend at the roof top bar for a drink.

We had dinner and then went back to the room for a bit. That night, we hung out by the fire and enjoyed a glass of wine.

The next morning, we left and the girls traveled home on the coach bus. I got home and had a couple of hours to get chores and errands finished before picking Hadley up.

They had such a great time, and I was glad to be able to see her games and have some downtime.

Once we got started with the week, we got the proofs for their school pictures.

I swear, it costs an arm and a leg to purchase photos. I prefer the download option because then I can order picture sizes that I want. Anyway, I think they turned out great.

One day at school, two students came up to me with these cute signs. Now, of course, they were buttering me up to let them switch seats and sit by one another. haha!

I still appreciated the effort!!

I haven’t been to Trader Joe’s in a couple of weeks, but last time I was there, I picked up these “Apple Blossoms.” I finally had one this week with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top…they are so delish!

Favorite Mom Meme:

…but sometimes they listen…

Weekly Recap:

I had a few posts this week:

What are your weekend plans? For once, we don’t have much on tap! I hope to put out my fall decorations. If I don’t get to it this weekend, then I don’t know when I will.

I hope you have a great weekend.

Hello and happy Friday!

I hope you’ve had a great week. I finally feel like we’re in a back to school groove. While it’s a bit hectic, at least we’re finding a rhythm to our days.

As always, I’m linking up with Andrea and Erika for this week’s Friday Favorites.

Here are my favorites from the week:

First of all, it’s S E P T E M B E R! …

…which means some of my favorite things…

Monday, we didn’t have school because it was Labor Day, so we decided to go to Wallace Station and have lunch outside.

My mom was visiting, so my brother and his family joined us as well. It was a nice afternoon.

I made two favorite meals this week…

One I’ve made many times, and…

…the other was a new recipe. It will definitely be added into the dinner rotation.

After school one day, I had some Amazon returns, so while I did that, Hadley popped into Starbucks. I got Pumpkin Cream Cold Brew, and it was delish!

On Instagram, I shared my September book trackers. I’d clearly lost my mind because when I first posted them, I had typed “August” rather than “September.” Anyway, they are saved in a highlight on my Instagram page. If you use one, feel free to tag me! I like making them…I wish I had more time to read!

Yesterday, I finally wore this romper that I got this summer. I really like it, and I got a few compliments too. 🙂

…and the Chiefs started the season off with a big win last night!

Favorite Mom Meme:

Snacks always help!

Weekly Recap:

I had a couple of posts this week! If I have time, I hope to share one tomorrow or Sunday too.

Share Our Lives:

We have our monthly Share Our Lives post on Monday. We’d love to have you link up with us. This month’s topic is finding peace in your day.

While I had quite a few favorites this week, it’s been a tough one. Earlier this week, we attended a funeral for one of Trav’s cousins. He’s certainly gone too soon, and his sweet family continues to be in our thoughts and prayers.

Also, there was the tragic news out for Georgia where yet another senseless act of violence took the lives of too many innocent people, teachers and students. It’s really hard to make sense of it all. We so happened to have a lock down drill practice on that same day. That night, Hayden said, “Mom, where do you go in your classroom if there is a lock down?” These are not questions my kids should have to ask me. It breaks my heart.

See you back here on Monday,

Hello and happy Friday!

For sure, TGIF! Although, I’ve been in school for a month, this was the first five day week with students! We all made it. Hooray!

As always, I’m linking up with Erika and Andrea for this week’s Friday Favorites.

Here are some favorites from the week:

Well, no pictures, but going back to last Friday, we didn’t have school which was so nice. Usually, teachers have to work, but we could “flex” our time. It was so nice not setting an alarm and then watching Real Housewives OC while sipping my coffee.

I took Hayden to get a haircut, and then we picked up Jimmy Johns for lunch. The rest of the day was busy, but it was still a good day off.

Saturday morning we were up early for Hayden’s first official high school cross country meet. It was so hot, but both the boys and girls teams did great. Hayden is running varsity, and he had a top 10 finish to kick off his high school cross country career.

Post race smiles!

Saturday was non-stop with volleyball as well. Hadley had two games that I missed when I was at Hayden’s race, but then they had three more games in the afternoon.

Saturday night, we finally watched Twisters. I rented it on Apple TV, and we all thought it was a pretty good movie. I had hoped for us all to see it in the theater this summer, but the $20 price tag from Apple was definitely less expensive then if we all went to the movie theater.

On Sunday, we celebrated my nephew’s birthday. We can’t believe he’s 10….and we appreciated that he wanted to share his cake with us 😉

Our evenings this week were filled with volleyball!

From pink night to support Breast Cancer…

…to playing tough and winning their first district match up…

…It’s been a fun and busy week of volleyball for Hadley…and they are off to a pretty solid start.

A couple of more Hadley pics…

She sent me this pic from the cafeteria…she loves her ramen! haha

…and I had to document her wearing her new jeans. When I tell you the search for “the perfect pair” was harder than I ever expected, I’m not lying. But.. after a few mall visits and going into quite a few stores, she found a pair she loved at The Buckle.

On some game days, they dress up…and jeans count as dressing up, apparently!

Favorite Mom Meme:

This is so true!

Bonus Fave: Flashback Friday:

Lots of memories from the younger days this week including Hayden’s first ever cross country race in 2018. He was in 3rd grade!

Then:

Now:

These two besties started playing volleyball that same year…

…and look at them now!

Hello and happy Friday!

This post is a little late thanks to a long week and a late Thursday night.

As always, I’m linking up with Erika and Andrea for this week’s Friday Favorites.

My favorites this week are pretty short and sweet.

We had lots of fun at the Royals/Reds baseball game last weekend. The Royals won 13-1!

Hadley has had three volleyball games this week, and they’ve been fun to watch. The first two were home games, and last night’s game was an away game.

Hadley had some great serves last night.

We also got her photos for the season, and they turned out great.

Travis and I went to a concert last night, and it was a good time. Larry Fleet is such a great musician. He’s like if Luke Combs and Chris Stapleton had a brother 😂

So, I was out on a school night…but not really…because another favorite is that we don’t have school today. ☺️

Favorite Kid Quote:

Last weekend, Hadley asked how old I am and guessed 41 and then 42. When I told her that I’m 44, she said, “Dang, girllll! What moisturizer do you use?” haha #favoritechild?

Who do teens have no concept of time?!

Weekly Recap:

Here are my posts from the week:

What are your plans for the weekend? Hayden has his first cross country race, and Hadley has a volleyball tournament. I’m going to take today to get caught up life and planning accordingly for another busy week next week.

Friday Favorites {#220}: First Day of School Edition

Hello and happy Friday!

Well, we made it to the end of the first week of school! The first morning was easy breezy (but filled with excitement and nerves), but then I forgot to set my alarm Wednesday night. Yesterday morning, Travis and I both woke up at 7:00…and I am supposed to leave for school at 7:30. I was in a mad dash to get out the door, but I made it in time. That being said, it just sets my whole day off in the wrong direction when I don’t get to ease into the day. I felt “off” and frazzled all day!

Anyway, as always, I’m linking up with Andrea and Erika for this week’s Friday Favorites.

Today’s favorites include back to school pics and a few fun things the kids did before going back to school on Wednesday.

Open House was a great success on Monday night. I met about fifteen students, and enjoyed the evening at school.

Since I have a few classes this year, I did have to set up my room a bit differently, but I think it’s good to go for the year.

At the end of Open House, Hadley came to my room after volleyball practice, and then we went home and picked up Travis and Hayden. We went to IHOP for our “back to school breakfast.” Through the years, I’ve tried to make such a big deal about going back to school in order to get the kids excited (myself, too) about going back to school.

I loved the back to school breakfasts in elementary and then the back to school “brinner” in middle school, but I was ok with throwing this “curve ball” and suggesting IHOP. The kids ask to go there all the time, and we don’t go often, so I thought it would be a good decision for dinner.

It was just us and one other lady in the restaurant. Who can beat that?

I got the French toast, and it was delicious.

The kids had one more day to enjoy summer on Tuesday. Hadley slept until noon, Hayden had early cross country practice, and then they just hung out most of the day.

Wednesday morning we were all up and at ’em pretty early. They let me snap their pics, per tradition, before I left. If they can catch a ride with a friend, they gain an extra thirty minutes, so I understand if they don’t want to ride with me. (I’m sure they will some mornings). So, Hadley has been riding with a friend, and Travis has dropped Hayden off. The bus is an option, but it leaves pretty early, and I’m sure Hadley will avoid it at all costs! 😉

The morning light was hitting just right!

My freshmen:

One more for good measure!

…well, one more with mom too. Year 23 sure looks different for me!

Truly, so far the best part of the past two days, besides meeting my students, has been seeing my own kids enter my classroom at the end of the day. They are mostly tired and in need of a snack, but I love ending my school day seeing them (and giving them a ride home)!

End of summer fun:

Hadley has had such a wonderful Young Life leader during her middle school years. The leader’s name is also Hadley, and she organized a back to school send off for this great group of girls! A few of them are headed to another school, but most of them are at school with Hadley. That being said, the leader stays with the next group of middle school girls. I know they will still see her, and she’s made quite the impact on them.

Meanwhile…Hayden and friends went to Kings Island and rode all the rides.

On Saturday morning, Hayden ran his first high school race. It was just a 5k fundraiser for the cross country team, but he ran a great race!

Favorite Kid Quote(s):

It’s been a bit since I’ve shared a favorite kid quote, and both kids said something funny this week:

On Saturday, Travis and Hayden went to Louisville for the afternoon. As Hayden told me goodbye, he hugged me and said, “Maybe you can go to the spa and get your toes done.” 😂

Not sure where that came from!

Then, Tuesday night, Hadley caught me with a few tears and asked what was wrong. I said I couldn’t believe they were going to high school, and without missing a beat, she said, “Girl, I can’t believe it either.” haha!

Favorite Mom Meme:

Homer is always happy to see me!

Weekly Recap:

It was hard finding a blogging groove this week with all the back to school things, but I did write a couple of posts:

What are your weekend plans?

Well, first on my agenda is to not set an alarm for Saturday and sleep in a bit. We are going to the Reds/Royals game in Cinci, and I’m looking forward to that.

I hope to have one more “Summer Sunday” post on Sunday sharing the highlights over our summer.

I hope you have a great weekend.

Friday Favorites {#219}: Back to School Edition

Hello and happy Friday!

I don’t think I ever feel “TGIF” like I do at the end of the school year and the start of the school year.

It’s always a difficult transition back to school as setting an alarm clock is painful, but it is nice seeing my colleagues again and getting my room in order. Today is another work day in our classrooms, and I’m ready to tie up some loose ends.

As always, I’m linking up with Andrea and Erika for this week’s Friday Favorites.

This is a special “back to school” edition of some of our favorites for the school year.

New Faves:

Shay shared this planner, and I immediately ordered it. I loved that it’s a small planner, and it has “doodle” pages and trackers. It arrived, and it’s super cute. I want to use it to meal plan and jot down moments from the day. That being said, I might see if Hadley wants to use it for the school year. Who knows though…she likes to “wing” her way through life. haha

I’m using the smaller Happy Planner again this year. I love that the box comes with stickers, although I always buy additional sticker packs too. I use the stickers for the planner and my school desk calendar. I typically get my planner from Michael’s, and teachers get a discount.

Guess what! High schoolers love stickers on their papers just as much as elementary kids do. I ordered this pack for the year.

Hadley got these pens when we went school shopping at Walmart. I borrowed them to fill out my desk calendar, and loved them so much that I bought myself a pack from from Amazon. Teachers love their pens…and we’re pretty particular about them too!

Hayden has the navy version of this Under Armour backpack that he used for the three years of middle school. It held up nicely, but was kind of a mess…because Hayden is messy…haha! So, I ordered him the same backpack again, but he requested it in black.

Every five years or so, I get a new school bag. I’ve had the same bag from Target for quite a few years. I wanted a bag with a pouch for my computer, and I loved that this one was cute, spacious, and has pockets on the outside to hold my many beverages! I’ve been using it all week, and I love it. It comes in a few colors, but I got the gray one. There’s a 35% off coupon right now too.

I bet it would make a great diaper bag as well.

Old Faves:

I’m always nostalgic about the elementary days especially now that we are entering the high school era.

These cute lunch box notes were ones I used for years when packing the kids’ lunches.

Speaking of lunch boxes…

Hadley used this lunch box during 6th grade.

She only bought school lunch in 7th grade, but last year, she wanted to take her lunch sometimes, and we got her this lunch box. It comes in lots of colors.

This pack of note pads is one of my favorite purchases from a few months ago. I kept one note pad at home, took one to school, and then gave two to a couple friends. I use it most days at school for my “to do” lists.

I bought this wireless keyboard and mouse to use with my laptop at school. There are lots of color options, but I love my pink one.

Back to School Breakfast/Brinner:

During the kids’ elementary years, I always had a “Back to School” breakfast the morning of the first day of school.

Once the kids started middle school, I started making a “Back to School Brinner” the night or two before the first day of school.

I’ve always enjoyed this tradition, but as the years have gone on, it’s sometimes become more difficult to find a free evening due to late practices. The Sunday night before school starts usually ends up being a good option.

I’m not sure my plan for the high school years. I’ve honestly thought about taking them to IHOP because I think they’d enjoy that/appreciate that just as much. I guess I will see what they want to do 🙂

Favorite Mom Meme:

Of course this hits home, but Hayden’s been getting up very early the past couple of weeks for cross country conditioning. Hadley, had her team volleyball camp this week starting at 7:30, and it lasted all day. She was tuckered out!

I know she plans on sleeping in the next few mornings until school starts on Wednesday.

Bonus Fave: Flashback Friday

This memory popped up in my Facebook memories from 2015. My sister-in-law took this pic, and was wishing the kids a great start to kindergarten. She’d gotten them balloons and a cookie cake when the kids spent the night in Louisville.

Such a sweet memory. They were so excited to start school.

Share our Lives:

We have our monthly post on Monday! This month’s topic is…least favorite activities. Well, currently, for me, that’s setting an alarm. haha!

We’d love for you to link up with us on Monday.

Weekly Recap:

Here are my posts this week:

What are your weekend plans? Odds are I will be in bed by 8:00 tonight, but maybe not. I’ve enjoyed staying up late watching Primetime Olympic coverage, but 11:15 bedtime and early wake-up had me taking a solid nap yesterday!

Anyway, I’m not sure what we will do this weekend. I’ve been hoping to go to a movie all summer, and that hasn’t happened…and I’d love to get a little more pool time in this weekend since those days have been so sparse these past couple of weeks. We’ll just see, I guess.

I hope you have a great weekend,

Friday Favorites {#218}

Hello and happy Friday!

Well, it was bound to happen…this is my last Friday off this summer. I’ve had a good run of not setting an alarm, sipping my coffee for an hour, and not having too much of a schedule…but…I guess all good things must come to an end!

As always, I’m linking up with Andrea and Erika for this week’s Friday Favorites.

Here are some favorites from the week:

Well, this post will be kind of short and sweet as yesterday was the most hectic day, and I ran out of time. I didn’t anticipate being a full-time mom taxi as well as some school commitments and last minute back to school errands.

That being said, the week mostly centered around watching the Olympics, working on school things, running last errands, taking the kids where they needed to go and finishing up my summer “to do” list.

Last weekend, Hadley had her first high school volleyball tournament, and it was quite the weekend! Her freshman team played quite a few JV teams, but they hung in there. It was fun watching her play the Libero position, and overall, they played six games last weekend.

She let me snap her pic once we got home from her Saturday games.

It was Hayden’s turn to spend some time at the lake with friends. He was gone for a couple of nights, and he had a really great time.

I’ve had the Olympics on non-stop. It’s been so fun watching some of the major events/competitions live and not have to wait for prime time coverage. Monday and Tuesday, we had dreary weather which made an even better excuse to just stay home and watch the Olympics.

I’ve watched rugby, water polo, gymnastics, beach and indoor volleyball, swimming, diving, and more! We can’t wait for track to start!

I shared favorite memes on Tuesday, but then I saw this one yesterday.

Homer fits the bill for these gold medals!

I shared my August book trackers on Instagram last night. Feel free to use them and tag me!

Here are a couple that I created:

Favorite Mom Meme:

Oh…this is sooo relatable…

Bonus Fave: Flashback Friday

Hayden and Hadley went to 9th grade orientation at school this week. Yesterday, they got their schedules and tried to find their way around the building. It was funny seeing them and their friends in the hallways.

It feels just like yesterday that I took them to their elementary school to look around.

*sigh* I didn’t even bother asking them to take a pic yesterday at school. haha

Blogiversary:

This Sunday is my 5 year “Blogiversary” for Show Me and Sweet Tea! Where has the time gone?! I continue to enjoy this hobby of mine!

Weekly Recap:

Here are my posts from this week in case you missed one. It goes without saying, I appreciate all those who show up here and take the time to read my posts 🙂

What are your weekend plans? I’m going to soak up one more weekday off before we have a somewhat busy Saturday and then hopefully a low-key Sunday.

Friday Favorites {#217}

Hello and happy Friday!

Well, I’m trying to stay positive, but this time next week I will officially have to be thinking about school since my meetings/professional development start on Monday, August 5th.

I will be soaking up my summer days until then.

As always, I’m linking up with Andrea and Erika for this week’s Friday Favorites.

Here are some favorites from the past week.

Well, I’m taking it back all the way to last Friday when I spent most of the day at the pool. Unfortunately, this week has been pretty overcast with some rain, so I haven’t had any more pool time. Maybe I can go there for a couple of hours today?

I bought Emily Giffin’s new book, and I’m really enjoying it.

Hadley went to the lake last weekend with her friend which is always a good time.

Instead of buying flowers at Trader Joe’s this week, I cut a few off of our huge hydrangea bush, and they are so pretty.

The only thing that gets me somewhat excited about back to school is when I purchase my planner. This is the third or fourth year that I’m using the Happy Planner. After using the big version a few years ago, I’ve bought the smaller version ever since. That being said, the layout I prefer can apparently only be found in the set that comes with some stickers. I always find these at Michael’s, and they are always at least 30% off + I get a teacher discount!

The next step for me is to actually open the box and start writing in meeting dates and kids’ activities. Maybe I will get to that this weekend.

Last Saturday night I had the house to myself, and I watched I Am Celine Dion. Wow! It broke my heart. While what she’s going through isn’t a favorite, she’s always been a singer that I love.

OK! I have to get back on track next week. This week, I had too many sweets. While I was out running errands last weekend, I picked up this s’mores cupcake as my Saturday night dessert, and it was so good.

Then, on Sunday, we celebrated Trav’s mom’s birthday, and the cake from Costco was so delish!

Have you seen these pizza cookies at Aldi? Run, don’t walk! They are less than $4, and they are baked in less than five minutes. This is my second time picking one up at Aldi.

It’s even better with a scoop of ice cream!

Well, after eating all those sweets, I was happy to see this notification after one of my workouts this week. I’ve completed 300 workouts on Bodi since I started using their programs. I’ve been subscribing to Bodi for a couple of years.

This Walmart robe has been floating around the internet, and I’ve been tempted to order it. I have a heavier robe from Target that I pretty much wear year round, but I thought this one would be great to try in the warmer months.

It comes in so many colors, and is less than $15!

I purchased the robe and this Time and Tru dress, and I’m keeping both. Clearly, I’m loving teal this summer.

I was at Dick’s Sporting Goods with Hadley this week, and saw these cute lunchboxes! Oh my…I had a purple Jansport backpack that got me through my high school years. These lunchboxes were a blast from the past.

Favorite Mom Meme(s):

Like I’ve previously shared this week, Hayden’s cross country conditioning has started, and he has to be at school at 6am. So…this one doesn’t apply to him, but Hadley’s sleeping in days are numbered.

Twice this week, she had to get up at 9:30, so I could take the kids to their workout, and you would have thought I asked her to get up at 6:30!!

Woof! Hayden’s bedroom is a danger zone!! I had hoped we’d tackle his room this summer, and it seems we’re running out of time. We need to prioritize his room and get something accomplished.

Bonus Fave: Flashback Friday:

The summer of 2018 is when we realized Hayden was blind as a bat! Whoops.

I love memories that pop up with him in his glasses. I also love that he wanted the sports goggles. For a couple of years, the goggles were all that he wore.

I miss little Hayden so much.

Weekly Recap:

Here are my posts this week in case you missed one!

What are your weekend plans? It’s Hayden’s turn to head to the lake with some friends…and my girl has her FIRST high school volleyball tournament. I can’t wait to cheer her on!

Have a great weekend,

Friday Favorites {#216}

Hello and happy Friday!

These Fridays in July really are hitting differently! I’m starting to feel the time crunch of getting some things accomplished at home as well as starting to think about school. I’m always grateful for this time off, but I also always struggle with the reality of our summer coming to a close.

Anyway, as always, I’m linking up with Andrea and Erika for this week’s Friday Favorites.

Here are some favorites from the week:

Well, it’s the part of summer where I follow through with promises I said we could do this summer…and that included Hadley getting her second ear piercing. There’s a new place in Lexingon, Hey Rowan, that I believe is a chain, but registered nurses do their ear piercings. Just like when Hadley was eight years old, she opted to have both ears done at the same time. haha!

The place was super cute, and we were in and out within 30 minutes.

I haven’t purchased as many flowers this summer, but once I got back from KC last week, I made a trip to Trader Joe’s and picked up some tulips. They matched my “vanilla cloud” candle.

Last Saturday, Hadley and friends played in a sand volleyball tournament. This was her first time playing in a sand volleyball tournament. It was a doubles tournament, and Hadley and her friend went 3-2 on the day and had lots of fun.

The tournament had free t-shirts, and these girls chose the brightest colors.

Saturday night, we met friends for dinner at a new Sri Lankan place, and the food was really good.

After three days of volleyball boot camp and one evening of tryouts, this girl found out she made the high school volleyball team!

She was so nervous, but we’re proud of her and all the hard work she has put in during this past year. She’s pretty much been playing volleyball non-stop for the past year, so while I knew she was prepared for the tryout, I understood the nerves.

We can’t wait to watch her (and so many of her friends!) on the court for their first high school season.

(She was channeling her inner champion for tryouts while wearing her “lucky” Chiefs Super Bowl t-shirt, and we celebrated with the “red plate” and her favorite –salmon for dinner.)

Time at our favorite book store was a favorite this week.

Hayden’s been at running camp most of the week, and I think he’s been having a good time. I’m ready for him to be home, though!

(BTW – as we walked into the sparse college dorm room, he said, “oh…this is so preppy!” haha…oh the difference in boys and girls)

I tried two new recipes this week. A friend mentioned that she’d made ribs in the slow cooker, and my family loves ribs…but I never make them.

This recipe was easy and delish!

I also made this teriyaki chicken, and served it with snap peas and rice. Hadley said it was 10/11…so I will take that compliment!

Favorite Mom Meme:

I feel this deeply…but the other day I had a car full of girls who wanted frozen yogurt…and while I was ready to go home, I couldn’t say no to fro-yo, and enjoyed hearing all the gossip and laughs from the back of the car.

Weekly Recap:

I’ve still been a busy blogger this week. Here are my posts:

I hope you have a great weekend! We finally have reasonable temps, so it’s nice to be able to be outside and enjoy the weather.
