Sunday Reflection

Happy Sunday!

Last month, I shared a “Sunday Reflection” looking back on the week, and I think that’s something I’m going to try to share at least once a month. It’s good to look back on the week and to look forward to the next in regards to seeing what I’ve accomplished and what goals I have for the upcoming week.

  • What made you the happiest this week? Thursday, we found the time for a family Valentine’s day dinner. I’ve kept it simple the past few years with heart shaped chicken nuggets, mac and cheese, fruit, and rolls. It was easy, and everyone loved (and appreciated) it.
  • What are your three biggest wins from the week? Well, to start, getting up at 5:50 again after a two plus week reprieve is definitely a win. Also, just getting back in school routine was also an accomplishment. I had to spend time getting with my students reviewing their NTI work and then getting in the swing of a new unit. Lastly, I was able to cross some things off my “to do” list like ordering Hadley’s volleyball pictures, making a few returns, and running a few errands. (You know, little things that you just put off and wonder what took you so long to do them?)
  • How did you spend most of your time this week? Well, besides being at school, I spent a lot of time watching the Olympics. So fun!
  • What drained your energy this week? I think the answers might always be teenagers. haha! But really – I had to do an online SAT training outside of school hours and it’s frustrating how long it took to complete. Apparently, the only thing harder than then SAT is completing the training to be a proctor for the SAT!
  • What did you do for yourself this week? I was overdue for a nail appointment, so I did that Tuesday after school. I didn’t go too far out of my wheelhouse, but I did try a new color…Let’s Be Friends….and it’s kind of a combo of my two faves…Funny Bunny and Bubble Bath.
  • What’s the greatest lesson you learned this week? I already knew this, but for some students, being at school is their safe place. There are so many students who struggled being out of school for two weeks because of their home life, food insecurity, or just being out of a school routine.
  • What do you want to do better next week? I need to get back to planning lunches. My new “go to” is to buy a bag of Caesar salad and take it to school and then bring some chicken and low-carb tortillas and just leave those things in my classroom fridge. I can usually get two to three wraps out of the bag of salad.
  • What would you like to accomplish next week? Probably just what I typically want to accomplish –getting workouts in, focusing on eating better…and I need to get better about eating more protein again, and just continuing to get into a school groove.
  • What can you do next week to take a step towards long-term goals? I need to plan all of unit 3 for my classes, so I can see when the unit will wrap up. We have district common unit assessments we have to give at the end of each unit, and I need to make that deadline.

Happy Sunday!

Finish the Sentence

Hello and happy Valentine’s Day!

Wow…Friday the 13th was no joke. Overall, it was a good day, but you know…kids are crazy. haha! Plus, we’ve had really nice and warm weather, and I swear the students are acting like it’s spring!

Anyway, I love these fun graphics, and I stumbled upon this one…

…here are my answers:

  • Every morning, I ….drink coffee! Well, I do a lot of things every morning, but drinking coffee seems like the most important! The second most important thing I do is make our bed.
  • I can’t leave the house without my …tumbler! Of course, I “can’t” leave the house without many things like my wallet, phone, or car keys, but I do take my tumbler with me wherever I go.
  • My usual breakfast iseither nothing or cream of wheat. I’m not a big breakfast person, especially on weekdays, but if I’m hungry and have time, I will make some cream of wheat. I keep some cereal bars at school if I make it until mid-morning before I need something to eat. Other days, I do eat anything until 12:30.
  • I study/work at…high school! (As I’m sure you know!). It’s hard to believe that I’m on the downhill slide to wrap up year 24.
  • When I get home, I…put on comfy or workout clothes. Once I get home, it always goes one of two ways…I either put on comfy clothes, or I change into leggings and a t-shirt and head to the basement for a workout. Even if I put on workout clothes, I still take a few minutes to unwind after a long day.

I hope your weekend is off to a great start!

Friday Favorites {#291}

Hello and happy Friday!

It’s been a good week once we got back into a routine. I know we just had two (unexpected) weeks off of school, but I’m not mad about the upcoming three day weekend.

As always, I’m linking up with Andrea for this week’s Friday Favorites.

Here are some faves from the week:

The Olympics!

I’ve planned my evenings around watching the Prime Time coverage, and that means I’ve also been going to bed later than I should. I’ve enjoyed watching as many events as possible, and I always love learning more about the athletes.

Screenshot

I almost missed out on my (half off) birthday discount, but on one of the final days of January, I ordered a Kendra Scott ring that I’d had my eye on. My local store didn’t have it, so I just ordered it online. It arrived this week, and I love it.

Hadley’s club volleyball photos came in, and they turned out so cute.

I’m not sure what took me so long to do so, but I finally bought a couple of bags at Trader Joe’s to haul my groceries in. We do like using the paper bags because we’ll use them for our recycling, but I do like having these bags, and they’ve come in handy for carrying my Kroger and Aldi groceries too.

I went to Walmart on Monday to make a return, and of course I had to look around. How cute are these (salad and dinner) plates? They are the Pioneer Woman brand, so of course they’re cute! I was so tempted to buy them, but I showed restraint. I guess I can always go back!

I’ve shared these Threshold brand candles a couple of times. I have the pink one, and I was placing a Target pick up order, so I thought I’d go ahead and snag a white one. Well, how could I resist the green one?!…and Target had a buy one get one half off sale. These are already reasonably priced, especially for the quality, so I just couldn’t say no.

With the Chiefs not being in the Super Bowl, our Super Bowl traditions were all out of whack. We did still go to my brother’s house, but instead of ordering a cookie cake, I made Valentine’s Day(ish) brownies. They were a hit.

Speaking of Valentine’s Day, my mom gave me these little heart tea lights via my Gma. So festive and cute.

We have a lot going on this weekend, so I went ahead and made our “Valentine’s Day” family dinner last night. Heart shaped chicken nuggets for the win!

Both kids love nuggets, and Hadley loves mac and cheese, so this was an easy meal to make. On a whim, I added some of the Sister Schubert rolls to my Kroger order, and we made little chicken minis!

The Valentine’s Day card for our family tradition continues! I snapped a pic of the kids on one of our snow days, and then I ordered the cards from Shutterfly. I love sending these to family every year.

The way to my heart…

Favorite Mom Meme:

I feel seen! Why is it like this? haha

Bonus Fave: Flashback Friday:

I’m sure I share this every year, but I loved dressing the kids up for Valentine’s Day when they were younger. This pic is from 2011…their second Valentine’s Day. Pinchy cheek cute.

Weekly Recap:

I’ve still been a busy blogger….

It’s Friday the 13th. Let’s hope it’s a low-key day at school. haha!

Have a great weekend!

Olympic Movies

Hello!

The Winter Olympics have been so fun to watch so far. Over the weekend, I watched Glitter & Gold on Netflix which got me thinking about other movies and documentaries that focus on the Winter Olympics.

Ice Skating:

I loved Glitter & Gold and wish there were more episodes. Ice dancing is so amazing, and of course the different partnerships and drama are also interesting.

Chock and Bates are my fave duo, and I was able to watch some of their performances live thanks to the weekend and snow days. I inadvertently saw the results of the ice dancing, but I still watched it in Prime Time last night.

Who doesn’t love the movie The Cutting Edge? This movie was one of my all time faves in the 90’s, and I loved watching it with the kids a few years ago.

My brother will randomly say “Toe Pick!” #iykyk haha

Admittedly, I’ve not seen I, Tonya, but wow…I remember the Kerrigan/Harding rivalry in the 90’s and being fascinated with all the details of Kerrigan’s injury after being assaulted and if she’d be able to perform.

Bobsledding:

Cool Runnings was another fave from my childhood, but again, the kids loved watching it too. I wanted to re-watch it before the Olympics started but never had time. I will definitely try to watch it again soon.

Hockey:

I was born right before the big Miracle on Ice game. My mom tells the story of her hoping I’d stay asleep so they could finish watching the big game. It’s been years, but I did see the movie Miracle, and I’m pretty sure I’ve watched it with Hayden as well.

The latest documentary on Netflix, Miracle: The Boys of ’80, was another one I’d hoped to watch before the Olympic games started. I will definitely watch it soon as well.

The Mighty Ducks is an absolute classic, and it’s another fave I loved re-watching with my kids a few years ago.

Snow boarding:

I’ve not seen this Netflix documentary, but it’s about Scotty James, an Australian Olympic snowboarder.

I’m thankful my kids were interested in watching great 90’s movies with me…and I enjoy watching documentaries as well.

What did I miss? I’m sure there are other Olympic themed movies and docs that I’ve forgotten.

Wednesday Hodgepodge

Hello!

Well, I made it through the first day back at school in over two weeks. I will say that it was a bit easier since we had a two hour delay. My students were chatty…but in the best way! It was nice to see them after some time off.

Our weather continues to be wild. Our temps were in the 60’s, and there were people outside shoveling in shorts and t-shirts!

I’m linking up with Joyce today for Wednesday Hodgepodge.

Here are my answers to her prompts this week:

1. What’s something recent that had you ‘tickled pink’?

Well, I know what that saying means, but I’m talking about pink…literally. I don’t own a lot of pink clothing, but I do have this Lilly sweatshirt in navy. So, when I saw it in the pink version, I thought it would be perfect for spring. I can wear it with leggings but I can also wear it to school.

Yesterday, one of my teacher friends delivered the Girl Scout cookies I’d ordered a few weeks ago, and my family was “tickled pink” with that delivery.

2. A bed of roses, everything’s coming up roses, every rose has it’s thorn, stop and smell the roses, rose-colored glasses, a rose among thorns…which rosy expression might currently be applied to your life in some way?

Hmm…this is a tough one. Maybe “stop and smell the roses” as the many snow days at home were starting to get to me a bit, but I did recognize that I can’t control Mother Nature or school decisions, so I made the best of the time off.

3. What makes you feel loved and appreciated?

“Acts of service” is definitely my love language, so I feel appreciated when Trav or the kids help me out in some way. I also feel love and appreciated when I receive a note or a card.

4. A box of chocolates or a bouquet of fresh flowers – what’s your pleasure? Any special plans for Valentine’s Day?

I love flowers, and I often buy them at Trader Joe’s to freshen up the house. Even better is when someone is thoughtful enough to send flowers. A few months ago, some of my friends sent me a pretty plant, and that brightened my day.

Trav and I usually don’t do anything to extravagant for Valentine’s Day. We always exchange cards and go out to dinner at some point. I’ve enjoyed making a special dinner at home with the kids when they were younger….but I still try to find the time to do the same now too. Tonight, we’re having heart shaped chicken nuggets, mac and cheese, and fruit for dinner as a family. We’re celebrating a bit early since you never know what plans the kids have on the weekend.

5. Share a favorite quote, scripture, or song lyric relating to love.

1 Corinthians 13:4-7: Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking. It is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

Quote: “What we have once enjoyed we can never lose. All that we love deeply becomes part of us.” ~ Helen Keller

6. Insert your own random thought here.

I’m loving the Olympics! I was “spoiled” over the weekend and Monday being able to watch the events live during the day. Now that I’m back to school, I’m catching the Prime Time coverage (and also trying not to see results before I get to watch!) I watched Glitter and Gold last week, so I’m all about the ice dancing!

I hope you have a great day!

10 on the 10th

Hello and happy Tuesday.

Well, high ho, high ho, it’s back to school we go. Yesterday, we finally thawed out enough to get some bus routes clear, but we actually are on a two hour delay. I guess it will be nice to ease into the school day a bit later after being out since Friday, January 23rd. Yes, you read that correctly!

It’s February 10th, so I’m linking up with Marsha for…

This month’s prompt is…

Kind of like in January, at first thought, this was a tough topic for me. Thankfully, I had a few days to think about my responses. (I hope I’ve interpreted the prompt correctly!)

Here are 10 things I hate to love…

  1. Iced coffee: I’ve had iced coffee through the years, but it’s only been a couple of months of drinking iced coffee pretty regularly. I love it, but it takes a few steps to make my iced coffee…ice, milk, coffee, creamer, froth my concoction, and add a dollop of cold foam before enjoying.

2. Seasonal mugs/icon glasses: These are both fun things to love, but it means I have to keep my cabinet organized to hold some of these favorite things. I have organized my mugs with seasonal ones together, so that helps, and then I put “off season” icon glasses in a lower cabinet.

3. Coffee creamers: I really do try to just use a splash of creamer as to not add too many calories to my morning coffee, but I used to only be a vanilla creamer girl. Now, thanks to Chobani, I am always changing up my coffee creamer. Trav still prefers the vanilla, so I always have that on hand, but I like to buy the peppermint, cookie dough, and recently I’ve been trying the birthday cake flavor.

4. The Real Housewives: I actually don’t watch a lot of reality/trash TV, but I do love most of the Real Housewives franchises. My favorite part of every season is the reunion. I’d say OC and Beverly Hills are my fave two.

5. Following celebrity stuff/reading People and Us Weekly: These magazines are just “permission for me to be nosy” haha! Sometimes, I just like mindless watching and reading!

6. Having my nails done: For years, I did my own nails, but about three years ago, I started getting SNS dip on my nails every three to four weeks. It just feels like a nice treat for myself, and once my nails are done, I don’t have to worry about them. I do take occasional breaks, but overall, I keep pretty regular appointments.

7. Skincare: I always say, I’m not turning back the hands of time with any of the products I use, but I’m just trying to keep my skin hydrated, firm(ish), and glowy. I still love my monthly facials, and those feel like a nice treat. That being said, with skincare, I feel like I’m “always” buying something. I’m pretty loyal to my products, but I just mean if something runs out, I have to order again.

8. My tumbler: There’s worse things to hate to love like drinking water…haha! But…I always have my tumbler with me and feel “naked” without it! I have this one in two colors, and it’s what I’ve used the past few years to stay hydrated.

9. Sweets! Why do I have a sweet tooth?! I will say I’m pretty good about saying “no” treats like donuts or cookies. That being said, if something is seasonal, I will eat probably more than I should!

10. Target: Who doesn’t love Target? I always joke that I “let” Target tell me what I need when I step foot in the store. haha! So, that basically means that I always leave with more than I need. My most favorite recent purchase is this jarred candle with a lid…I love it so much so that I’ve picked it up in a few other colors. (They had buy one, get one half off this weekend)

This was a fun post to write. What’s one thing you hate to love?

Share Our Lives: February 2026

Hello and happy Monday!

Would you all even believe me if I told you we still aren’t going back to school today? Our roads have definitely improved, but there are still too many side streets on bus routes that are iced over. The temps will be on the rise this week, and we’re ready for it.

I had two fun posts this weekend. Saturday, I shared a few of my fave Super Bowl apps, and yesterday, I shared a few Olympic view food ideas (thanks to being inspired by others!)

Anyway, it’s already the second Monday of the month, so I’m co-hosting Share Our Lives with some of my favorite bloggers.

In January, we discussed…

  • Ways to stay warm in the winter

This month’s topic is…binge worthy shows.

Well, truth be told, I’m not good at binge watching shows. Do I watch TV? Absolutely! I just don’t seem to have the attention span (or the time?) to “binge” a show in one or two sittings.

That being said, recently, Trav and I watched His & Hers in a matter of a few days, and we definitely wanted to see how it ended.

I do have “pockets” of time, like over break, when I kind of made it a goal to finish up a few shows I love and had started. I really like Nobody Wants This and a few weekends ago, I watched the last few episodes of season 2.

Since Catherine O’Hara’s passing, I started to re-watch Schitt’s Creek. It was a fave a few summers ago. My dad had suggested it, I watched all six seasons throughout that summer…maybe 2022?

During Covid, I “binged” The Crown. I was late to that game as well, and I watched the first three or four seasons, and then I finished that series as it wrapped up over the next few years.

I’m looking forward to the new season of Night Agent coming out soon. Trav and I watch that together.

Thanks to Hulu, I can watch some of my favorite shows from my childhood like Who’s the Boss?, 227, Designing Women, Mad About You, and According to Jim.

You know I can always watch my fave ladies…The Golden Girls.

A few shows I have on my TV/Netflix list to watch at some point:

  • Lincoln Lawyer (my brother suggested, and I’ve watched the first few episodes of season 1, and I like it)
  • The Diplomat (I need to finish season 3)
  • The Pitt (my mom suggested, and I’ve watched the first few episodes of season 1, and it’s intense…but I love Noah Wylie.)
  • The Four Seasons
  • Shrinking

I just don’t have a ton of time right now to go all in on a show with multiple seasons, but I like having some ideas of what to watch). I also think I have TV “commitment issues.” haha!

Of course, right now, I will want to watch the Olympics in the evening.

Next month, we’re looking at grocery list frequent buys…

Have a great Monday!

Olympic Food Ideas

Hello and happy Sunday!

Yesterday I shared a few Super Bowl app ideas which sent me down a Pinterest rabbit hole of Olympic food ideas.

Pinterest has always given me great meals, desserts and recipe ideas as well as party ideas when the kids were younger. These are all easy and fun ideas to make viewing the Olympic games even more fun.

Olympic Rings:

Starting with…the Olympic rings…but with fruit. How fun! …and a great and easy way to serve something healthy.

Gold Medals:

The opposite of healthy and just as cute are these gold medals using Oreos and Fruit by the Foot.

Snap Happy Mom has a whole post sharing ideas for Olympic themed party including the two ideas above.

Olympic Torches:

How cute are these fruit Olympic torches? Alex Daynes has a fun post sharing four Olympic party foods.

Sip and Celebrate:

This drink is easy to make with bubbly or Sprite and some gummy Life Savers. Savannahsmiled.com has a fun Olympic Watch Party post.

I wish I could be so creative! If my kids had a birthday around the time of the Olympics, I would have loved this theme!

What’s your favorite Winter Olympic event?

Super Bowl Apps

Hello and happy Saturday!

Well, this is a big weekend! The Olympics have started and tomorrow is Super Bowl Sunday.

I’ve joked the past few weeks that I’ve forgotten there’s even a big game since us Chiefs fans have been spoiled the past few years with the Chiefs always being in the big game!

So, since I don’t really care about the game, I can now focus on the commercials…and the real star of the show…the food!

Since the Chiefs have been in the Super Bowl, we’ve usually watched the game at my brother’s house. We typically keep it simple and order pizza and get a cookie cake. That being said, I know appetizers are some of the best part of the big game, and here are a few “go to” ones I make when I need to bring something to a pot luck or a party.

Stuffed Peppers:

These mini stuffed peppers are easy and delish. I’m sure you could add in some bacon bits or sausage to make them a more hearty option.

Pic c/o exercise4weigtloss.com

Meatballs:

These meatballs are my “go to” when I need to bring an app. Also, they are Hayden’s fave!

I’d saved this to Pinterest years ago, but the link doesn’t seem to work now.

All you need is a bag of frozen meatballs, BBQ sauce and grape jelly. (I always buy the Sweet Baby Ray’s BBQ sauce and Smucker’s grape jelly…as pictured)

Put all three ingredients in the slow cooker and cook on high for 2-3 hours or low for 3-4 hours. Easy and delish!

Salami Roll Ups:

Salami roll ups are such an easy app to make! I don’t have a pic of the finished product, but this is the salami I use.

For each piece of salami, spread some cream cheese on it and add a slice of pickle (I usually buy the spears and cut each spear into fourths). Then, roll up the piece of salami and secure with a toothpick.

Easy peasy!

What’s your fave app to share with others? Who are you cheering for in the Super Bowl? The Patriots or the Seahawks? (Or the apps and commercials?! ha!)

I hope your weekend is off to a great start.

Friday Favorites {#290}

Hello and happy Friday!

Well, it’s official…we haven’t been to school in two weeks. “Winter break 2.0” has been very unexpected. I guess our only shot at normalcy will be the fact that we’re supposed to be in the 50’s next week!

While I appreciate the downtime, we all need to get back into a routine!

Speaking of routine…as I do every Friday, I’m linking up with Andrea for this week’s Friday Favorites.

Buckle up, y’all…I have lots of faves and lots of randomness…

I saw this on Instagram, and my Type A personality loved it:

As I shared in my post on Tuesday, I’ve been out and about to a few faves stores. I saw this cherry icon glass at Home Goods and just couldn’t say no. I’ve already used it a few times, but I was thinking it would be a good spring/summer glass.

Hadley went to a birthday party last weekend, and they made pretty bouquets of flowers. Her bedside table has a lovely pop of color(s).

Speaking of Hadley…she got some Lego flowers for her birthday, and she’s been working on them with her friend over the past couple of months. Her bouquet is finally finished…so she has lots of flowers in her room.

…and speaking of her room, I left to run errands on Tuesday and came home to her room rearranged. She’d told me she wanted to move things around, but I was surprised she did so on her own. Honestly, I was a smidge annoyed because I knew I was going to help get everything put away/purged/organized/thrown out, but I guess we did have time…and that’s how we spent most of Wednesday. I do remember moving my room around a lot as a kid, so I guess she gets that from me!

*Sigh* I was so bummed to hear about Catherine O’Hara passing away (obviously, not a favorite)….I spent most of Saturday morning watching Schitt’s Creek (a favorite show of mine). My dad told me to watch it a few years ago, and I chipped away at it that summer. Anyway, it’s such a great show…and she will be missed!

I found more Dizzilicious…this time at Target. This variety pack was with the Valentine’s Day candy, cards, etc…so I snagged it right up. I think it’s mostly at Sam’s Club or Costco, and we don’t have memberships to either. I hope Target always has this. The birthday cake flavor is my fave.

Trav picked up Crumbl cookies on Friday, but he left them in his car overnight! He found them on Saturday morning…haha!

Still, it was a very sweet thought to pick some up, and we enjoyed those last weekend.

Speaking of sweet treats, I went to fill the kids’ car up with gas yesterday morning, and I decided to pick up some donuts too. They appreciated having something different for breakfast…I thought the one with strawberry icing was delish!

I went to Michael’s last week, and I spotted so many cute “book club” paper goods.

How funny, right?!

This serving tray was so precious, and they had so many cute napkins: library book check out card, “My wine club has a book problem,” and “So many books, so little time!” I didn’t get any of these, but I was tempted!

Tuesday night, we went out to dinner. You all, when I tell you that we never eat out during the week, I mean it. I really always try to make dinner, and occasionally we will pick up carry out, but we literally never go out to eat on a Tuesday night. Anyway, I told Trav we needed to get out of the house and do something, and we hadn’t tried this new(ish) restaurant. (Also, while planning the dinner out, I really did think we were going back to school on Wednesday, so I this would be a nice was to wrap up “Winter break 2.0”)

The food was really good. Trav got a BBQ sandwich, I ordered a burger salad, Hadley got a chicken bowl, and look at Hayden’s burger…so good!

We’ll definitely go back! (And as we exited the restaurant and made our way to the car, it started to snow just as we received the text that we didn’t have school the next day.)

My mom gave me this mug for my birthday. Maybe I should sit it on my desk once we get back to school. ha!

You know who loves the snow? (Well, once he “braves” the back steps?) Part-Husky Homer can be seen zooming around the backyard!

I heard the kids in the kitchen chatting and came in to see them making their own “dirty sodas.” The Cream Soda Dr. Pepper is a new find, and I like it. They added some creamer to make it “dirty,” and I guess it was a hit.

One of the things I always embrace about time at home is eating whatever I want for lunch…and often times I make a “snack plates.” This isn’t a snack plate, but it was my breakfast, brunch, or lunch often the past two weeks. I love the Pepperidge Farm Cinnamon Swirl bread…and I’ve been scrambling two eggs (using Amy’s microwave method)…and I’ve added some cheese and avocado when I have those things on hand).

Favorite Mom Meme:

Like, why does it have to be like this? haha

Bonus Fave: Flashback Friday:

Oh…Valentine’s Day is only about a week away, and this is one of my fave photos. Hayden’s “bachelor” shirt makes me LOL every time.

Weekly Recap:

Today is my 40th blog post in a row! While my goal was to blog every day in January, I had some posts at the end of the December and then I’ve posted every day this week to start February…

Will the streak continue? I don’t know. Nothing is really popping in my head to write about tomorrow, so we’ll see. It was a good run…and I still have lots of posts planned for February.

Share Our Lives:

Monday, we have our second Share Our Lives link up of the year. This month’s topic is…binge worthy shows. I do watch TV, and I definitely have some fave shows to share, but I don’t really binge watch a lot of TV, so I can’t wait to see what others share.

Have a great weekend!
