Teacher Talk Tuesday

Hello and happy Tuesday!

Yesterday was a really productive day at school, my new classroom is ready to go, and I have the first few days planned.

I’ve put a lot of time, effort (and money!) into my new classroom, but I know it will be worth it in the end. The good news is that for the next few years, I will be in this classroom, so I won’t have to do as much next year.

A couple of weeks ago, I shared a few things I’d purchased for my room, and today, I’m giving a little tour of my space.

Here’s a peek at a few of my favorite things in my new classroom.

This little purple stand came from one of my trips to Five Below. I will have a few meetings on Zoom, so I can prop my computer on it, but for now, I’m using it for my phone which then gave me a little bit of space underneath for pens and pencils.

Behind my desk, I have some shelves, and I’ve made the most of them. I have a few decorative items, things students have given me through the years, as well as trays for the papers I need to pass back and binders with my unit plans in them. This space is a mix of cute and functionality.

Earlier in the summer, I shared that Hadley helped me put up the bulletin board paper and border and that “August me” would thank “June me” for doing that task. Well, it’s true! It was nice to have the paper and border up, and Hadley helped me with the parts of speech and writing posters a couple of weeks ago. This is a colorful corner for sure.

Hadley also helped me put up my magnet border, and these white board magnets also make my white boards more colorful. Now, I need to actually write the date, learning target and success criteria for tomorrow. (I honestly loathe writing the LT and SC…the kids don’t look at it…it’s all for show!)

I’ve had these “how to pass” and “how to flunk” posters my entire teaching career, so of course they had to go with me to my new room. The banner brightens up this wall, and I outlined the posters with border.

Every year, some student looks at these and says, “Oh…it’s easier to pass than to fail?” #myworkhereisdone !

Under those posters, I put a cute lamp from Home Goods and new trays for papers. My old ones are the traditional plastic ones that I’ve had for years, so I did purchase these new wire ones in a fun purple color.

A few weeks ago, Hadley helped me with my faux bulletin board. When I show it to people who stop by, they think it’s an actual bulletin board. haha

I’ve had the “what good readers do” criteria for many years, so I thought this was a fun way to display that info.

My new rolling podium is for sure a fave!

This little calendar was an impulse buy at Michaels. It makes me feel like an elementary teacher because I feel like many of them have the flip calendars on their white boards. I love how colorful this one is.

I’m going to put a few school related items on this white board, but the clock is a fun touch, and then I added two baskets for papers I will need for class.

You know I love a lamp!! So, I picked up another cordless lamp from Walmart for my desk.

Lastly, this little note pad has come in handy the past week. I picked it up at Michael’s (I think?), and it’s helped me stay organized lately.

The school bell officially rings tomorrow! The thing about having to go back over a week before students start means that I’m definitely ready for the kids to come to school and for classes to start.

Share Our Lives: August 2025

Hello and happy Monday!

While this is a Monday I’ve been “dreading” for a bit, last week was nice easing into back to school, and at this point, I’m ready to see students on Wednesday.

It’s the second Monday of the month, so I’m co-hosting the Share Our Lives link up with some of my favorite bloggers.

So far this year, we’ve discussed…

  • Saving time on chores in January
  • Tips for falling asleep in February
  • Day in the life, an average day in March
  • Creative outlets/free time in April
  • How do you spend your birthday in May
  • Unique things about where you live in June
  • Best vacation memory in July

This month’s topic is…how do you take a break?

Well, this topic is perfect timing considering my summer “break” is wrapping up. Before I share a few ways I take a break, I’ve always said one of the things I love about being a teacher is having built in breaks. Going into the school year, I know I will have a fall, winter, spring and summer break. Those pockets of time have been great for re-charging at home, scheduling appointments, visiting family, celebrating holidays and traveling. Also, those breaks have provided me with the opportunity to be a “stay at home mom” for pockets of time. So, I really appreciate having these breaks throughout the year.

In a more everyday setting, I take breaks by…

Sipping my coffee…

…closing my eyes for a few minutes…

…reading…

…floating in the pool…

…going for a walk…(as well as other forms of exercise)…

….and the best way to take a break is with my toes in the sand. It seems all my worries go away when I have a view of the water…

How do you take a break?

I hope you have a great Monday!

Friday Favorites {#270}

Hello and happy Friday!

TGIF! I made it through two days of professional development this week, and today I get some time to work in my room before Open House.

There’s no tired like “back to school teacher” tired.

Overall, it’s been a good week though!

As always, I’m linking up with Andrea and Erika for this week’s Friday Favorites.

Here are some favorites from the week…

It’s volleyball season, y’all! Hadley and the JV team played in a tournament last weekend, and it was fun to see them back in action.

I hope they have a great season; I always love watching them play.

Walks with my guys and Homer are a favorite for sure.

Go for a walk…but make it cute. I really love the SSYS frill neck tops, and my Target flutter shorts have been a “go to” all summer.

I added some August book trackers to my Instagram highlight. As always, if you use them, feel free to tag me! I always love seeing what others are reading.

A few favorite things I’ve been watching…

Last week, I mentioned that Trav, Hayden and I had tried to see the F1 movie, but after we got in our seats, they couldn’t get them movie to work.

Well, we tried again, and we actually saw the movie.

It was so good!

Running with the Wolves has been a fun watch. Mark and Kelly bought a soccer team (Campobasso) in Italy, and there’s a four part series on ESPN following the soccer season. It’s fun seeing them share their lives and the behind the scenes decisions that are made when you own a team.

Leanne Morgan is one of my favorite comedians, and she has a new show out on Netflix. I’ve watched the first few episodes, and I can’t wait to watch more.

Favorite Mom Meme:

This one is definitely relatable…

Bonus Fave: Flashback Friday

With school starting next week, you know I’m reminiscing about all the first days of school in the past.

The start of Kindergarten actually feels like yesterday.

Share Our Lives:

Monday is our monthly link up, and we’d love to have you join us.

Weekly Recap:

I was pretty consistent with blogging this week:

One more favorite before I go…I’m not sure how I missed it, but this week was my “blogiversary.” I started blogging in 2019, and I’m still going strong six years later. This continues to be such a fun hobby for me, and I appreciate all who read, like, comment and connect with me.

As I move into “back to school” season, I’m sure I will continue blogging, but will probably just have to take it week with week and see what I have time to share.

Have a great weekend.

Throwback Thursday: Before-K Hadley’s Day

Hello and happy Thursday! Well this week is just trucking right along. With school starting next week, it got me thinking about the kids and their elementary school years. I feel like I’m always nostalgic for those days. Today, I’m taking a look back on something fun I did with each kid before they started kindergarten.

I was so nervous, but also excited, about the kids starting kindergarten. I wanted to spend a day with each of them before we all went to school. So, I chose a day and let them both choose a few activities, and I sprinkled in a few as well.

Here’s “Hadley’s Day” in 2015 before school started.

I dropped Hayden off at the sitter’s house, and Hadley and I went for a walk in a nearby park to get our day started.

We did a scavenger hunt while we walked. My cute little lefty:

We’d been on these trails before, and she had a great time.

We found everything on the list!

After that, we made a pit-stop at a gas station, and she could choose whatever she wanted…apparently, her love for sour candy started early!

Then, we stopped by the dance studio and signed her up from classes. In kindergarten, she took a combo ballet/tap class, and that was the start of her falling in love with dancing.

(This pic is at one of the classes once those started…missing a tooth and smiling!)

Then, it was Taco Bell time. Hadley still loves Taco Bell…I think she’s had it twice this week!

After that, I took her for a pedicure. This was her first time getting one, and I found a place that had the chairs for kids. She’s been a diva ever since. haha

Then, it was time for putt putt golf which was the perfect way to cool off on a hot summer day.

One more treat for my sweets…we stopped by the cupcake place, and she chose a cupcake for herself…

…and for Hayden. She’s still a very thoughtful girl.

As you know, I’ve always made a big deal about going back to school. I want the kids to be excited about the start of a new year. We used to take a day to get back to school haircuts and go by school supplies followed by lunch. Sometimes, we still make it to the outlet mall for them to get some new shoes. At this point, some years, we’re just winging it!

During the elementary years, I did a back to school breakfast

…and in middle school we did a back to school brinner.

Last year, we went to IHOP for dinner a couple of days before school started. I hope we get to do the same thing this year.

Anyway, this was a special day with Hadley, and I will share Hayden’s day soon!

Do you have any back to school traditions?

Currently

Hello and happy Wednesday!

Well, day one of back to school professional development went well. It’s nice to see my colleagues and at the district PD, I always see friends from other schools which is always an added bonus. The English department at my former school was simply the best. So many of us started out there as young teachers, barely married and with no kids. Now a lot of us have moved to my current district, but we’re at various schools. So, when we see each other, it’s like one big reunion. We’ve kept in touch, but it’s just better when we get to see each other in person.

It’s been quite a while since I’ve linked up with Jenn and her Currently post, but I’m excited to do so today.

Here’s what I’m currently…

Loving:

I truly haven’t quit wearing my two sweatshirts and two pairs of shorts from Aerie. They’ve been the perfect summer staple.

I also have been loving our limelight hydrangea bush in our back yard. It’s absolutely taken off and is huge. Once a week, I’ve clipped some blooms to put in vases around the house.

I’ve also been loving Leanne‘s new show on Netflix. She’s so funny, and the cast is great.

Looking forward to:

I’m looking forward to getting back into a routine. I spent some time on Monday writing all the appointments, meetings, days off and more in my teacher planner and on my desk calendar. I also planned dinners for this week and placed a Kroger order. That’s not necessarily out of the ordinary, but I wanted to be intentional about lunches this week and even dinners. We’ve been “winging it” the past few weeks.

Scheduling:

Appointments. I schedule many appointments before I leave the office (like six months cleaning appointments while I’m at the dentist), but some I schedule, like my annual mammogram, as soon as I get back to school and know my schedule.

We also scheduled to have our living room chairs and ottomans cleaned. That’s been on the “to do” list for the entire summer, and we’re getting that done today.

Buying:

Like I shared last week, I’ve been buying quite a few things for my new classroom, and I’m really loving how my classroom turned out. It’s been a lot of work, and Hadley has been a huge help. Hayden helped me on Monday finish up the last few things.

And, in other news, I guess we’ll be buying new to us car. Last week, Trav was driving my car and was in an accident. The car next to him was t-boned by someone running a red light, and that car got pushed into my car. I’ve had my car for almost ten years, and I assumed I’d have it for a few more, so this is kind of a bummer! That being said, Trav got a new (to him) car last summer after getting rid of the 4Runner that we’d had for close to fifteen years and 250k+ miles. Anyway, I’m glad he was driving my car instead of his, and of course, I’m glad everyone was ok!

This feels like “adulting” at its finest…and just as we’d started to discuss a car for the kids.

Gearing up for:

Back to school…and what I hope is a great school year for myself and my kids.

Sophomore year can kind of be “meh” because you aren’t the new kid anymore…kind of the middle child of high school, so I’m hoping they make the most of it.

Also, my school is moving from a traditional six class schedule to block scheduling with four ninety minute classes for A day and then four other classes for B day. I’m excited to give it a try, but it will be a big adjustment, I’m sure. With that, for my own kids, they get to take more electives which I think will be great for them to experience and focus on a pathway.

What’s something you are loving, looking forward to, scheduling, buying, or gearing up for?

Prime Purchases

Hello and happy Monday!

How was your weekend? We aren’t even back to school yet, and ours was full of high school volleyball. Hadley’s team was in a local tournament this weekend, and it was fun to see the girls back on the court.

Today, I’m clinging to summer break as it’s my last official day of summer before meetings and professional development (now called professional learning…maybe we’re developed enough? haha) starts tomorrow. Students don’t start back until next Wednesday, so my kids still have a few more days of relaxation.

It’s the first Monday of the month, so I’m sharing my Amazon purchases from July.

Most of my Amazon purchases were for school as I shared in the Teacher Talk post last week. I did update it and add a couple of items that I purchased after sharing that post in case you’re interested.

My classroom is officially set up, and now I need to get focused on actual back to school things like creating a syllabus, making copies, and planning first day of school activities.

This tank popped up as “something I might like,” and I do like it. I prefer “muscle tanks” for working out, and this light weight, flowy fabric is perfect. It comes in lots of colors, and you can’t beat the price!

Another month of ordering these under eye patches that are a part of my morning wake up routine. I believe this was my twelfth time ordering.

I finally caved and ordered more forks because…

I give up. Where did all my forks go? This pack is more than what I needed, so I added a few to our silverware drawer, and will save the rest for if/when we need them.

Travis ordered this shoe bag, so he could wash Hayden’s shoes, and it worked perfectly for our needs.

I ordered this blouse last fall, and I loved it so much that I ordered it in a second color almost immediately. Well, in my original order, I sized up, and didn’t need to. So, when this blouse was on major sale for Prime Days, I ordered it again and donated the other blue one. So, now I have it in blue and black, both in my correct size. It’s so good, I want it in another color.

How does Hadley stay looking fifteen? Well, it might be because she has snail mucin as part of her skincare routine! She asked me to re-order this as it’s a staple in her daily routine. Maybe I should try it!

She also requested more earrings, and picked out this pack of gold hoops…

….and this pack of pearl stud earrings.

In 8th grade, when Hadley was going to all the cotillion dances, she wore the same strappy block heels. So, before her cousin’s wedding a few weeks ago, we got her this pair because I have similar ones that I love so much.

Travis ordered Hayden a few pairs of shorts before his running camp in July.

Lastly, my “major” Prime Days purchase was this walking pad, and I love it! I’ve used it nearly every day to get a few extra steps in.

I did debate on buying one with a handle bar, but I went with the one without as I didn’t want it to be an eye sore. I found the perfect spot in our basement where it’s tucked away, and I have a wall on one side, and then a chair on the other side if I feel like I might need help with balance. When I have reached out for the chair, it hasn’t been a bit deal…it’s not that I’ve really lost my balance, it’s just nice to know I have something nearby if needed. I am not a very coordinated person!

That being said, I absolutely don’t know how people use a desk with it. I can barely just listen to my book and walk, but you do you (boo!) if you are able to type and scroll while walking!

This same brand also has a walking pad option that has an incline which might be a preference for some too.

I love that there’s a remote, and a spot for the remote, so it doesn’t get lost. There’s an app too, but I haven’t used that. I don’t see my running crew running on it…it’s definitely more for easy walking in my opinion. I have zero regrets about this purchase!

I’m thinking August will be a “lighter” Amazon month. July was kind of like December with lots of extra purchases for school, and now we should be good to go for a while.

Friday Favorites {#269}: Monthly Moments July 2025

Hello and happy Friday!…and happy August 1st. I’m not trying to be negative, but I think August is my least favorite month, but it also does mean a fresh start and routine once school starts, and I do like both of those things.

How was your week? I made the most of my last full week of summer…I spent some time finishing getting my classroom in order, went to Pilates, went to the pool, read, went to a movie and more!

As always, I’m linking up with Andrea and Erika for this week’s Friday Favorites...

….to share a look back on July.

July 1st, Hadley went to Young Life camp in Michigan with lots of her friends.

Hayden and other family members ran the Bluegrass 10k on the 4th of July.

I stayed in one spot to cheer them on!

Our nephew won the race.

We wrapped up the 4th by going to our favorite spot to watch fireworks.

I got lots of pool time in July…which meant I had time to chat with my friends, float in the pool or read.

We celebrated Trav’s birthday when Hadley got back from camp. We got him a few gifts, went out to dinner, and had some Crumbl cookies to celebrate.

As I’ve shared a few times (sorry to be repetitive!), Trav and I went Lake Michigan to celebrate our 20th anniversary that was in June. We made do with what time allowed for us to get away for a few days, but honestly, it was still such a perfect vacation. It was nice being able to drive a few hours to a couple of beautiful towns, and the weather was great with low humidity.

I recapped our two days in South Haven in this post.

We stayed at a bed and breakfast right by the beach, and it was lovely.

We also spent two days in Saugatuck, and I shared all about our time there in two posts. (post one, post two). We stayed at a boutique hotel, spent time in town, got a massage, ate a few delicious meals, and went to the beach.

A couple of weeks ago, we went to Louisville for our nephew’s wedding. They got married on a Friday with a dinner to follow and then a bigger reception on Saturday. It was a great couple of days with family.

In July, both of the kids’ sports started. Hayden’s been going to 6am practices the past couple of weeks, and Hadley’s been busy with volleyball. Her first tournament is this weekend.

I also spent the last couple of weeks at school off and on setting up my new classroom. I’ve worked in my room over ten hours, and Hadley has been such a big help.

Just yesterday, we finished the final bulletin board, and now I actually need to start thinking about actual school stuff like curriculum and syllabi! haha

Overall, July was a good month with lots of summer and family fun.

Weekly Recap:

I had a few posts this week:

I hope you have a great summer weekend!

Monthly Musings

Hello and happy Thursday!

Well, it’s the last day of July…and as cliche as it sounds, “where did the summer go?”

I’m linking up with Patty and Holly for Monthly Musings.

This month’s topic is…how we summer. Well, this topic is timely since I feel like summer is over…but of course, it’s not! We’ll feel the heat until October, but once school starts back, I tend to feel like that’s it for summer!

Anyway, here are my responses:

1. Favorite thing about summer 2025!

Well, it’s hard to choose just one. It felt like such a wonderful milestone for Travis and I to celebrate twenty years of marriage, and it was nice to get away for a few days to South Haven and Saugatuck, MI.

This summer has been extra special with one niece and one nephew getting married! We attended two beautiful weddings in the course of two months.

2. Favorite thing you ate this summer.

Not exactly what I ate, but one of the things I love about summer is relaxing a bit on meal planning and kind of just going with the flow. That being said, it is good when we can get back in a routine with meal planning and meal prep once the school year begins.

As for food I actually did eat, I loved breakfast at the bed and breakfast in South Haven and the boutique hotel in Saugatuck.

Also, the tasting menu at Coast in Saugatuck was ten out of ten!

3. Did you see any summer movies?

I do tend to watch a bit more TV in the summer just because I have some extra time to do so. We do usually try to have a movie night or go see at least one movie in the summer. Just this week we tried to see F1 in the theater. We bought the tickets and the popcorn and got settled in our seats…just to wait and wait and wait. Finally, after thirty minutes, they gave us ticket vouchers because they couldn’t get the movie to work. Maybe we’ll get to see it soon.

4. What books did you read this summer?

I shared my July reading yesterday, and I’ve read six of the nine summer books on my list. I’m hoping to get a couple more read in August.

5. Ready for fall or hold on to summer?

I really do love summer, even with the hot temps. Just this week, I went to the pool and it was so hot, I spent more time in the pool than out of it. That’s ok because I still was able to read my book and work on my tan!

That being said, after Labor Day, I’m ready for cooler temps and all things fall.

6. What is different about your summer schedule compared to the rest of the year?

Well, if you ask my kids…they’ll say, “What is bedtime?!” haha

For me, I love not setting an alarm to wake up. Also, it’s been nice having time to go to the Reformer Pilates classes that I love. Hadley joined me at a class this week, and she loved it. Due to the times, I can’t really do that during the summer.

Once school starts back, I feel like we are on the go more than ever. That being said, my kids typically have something going on every day of summer too, and I honestly don’t feel very rested heading back into the school year…but at least I get a nap if I want in the summer!

7. How do you take a break/relax in the summer?

In the summer, I enjoy slow mornings, afternoons on the front porch, pool or beach time to relax.

8. Any trips still on the calendar for the rest of the summer?

Unfortunately, no. We didn’t even really have our act together to travel this summer…besides the trip to Lake Michigan. That being said, the kids got to do what they wanted to do in regards to work, camps, hanging out with friends and more. Trav and I took the time to get away for a few days which we rarely do, so that was lovely too.

9. Any summer concerts this year?

No summer concerts this year for us.

10. When does summer end in your world?

Probably the first day of school when that 5:50 alarm goes off!

Sorry! I feel like I was kind of boring in this post. Truth be told, while we had lots of good memories this summer, it was also one that was hard for me. I know not every summer is perfect, but this one just felt overwhelming and disappointing in some ways. I’m forever grateful for time off and extra time with my kids, so no matter what, I don’t take that luxury for granted.

What I’ve Been Reading: July 2025

Hello and happy Wednesday!

Where or where did July go? There’s nothing like having a bit of extra time to read in the summer…and in July, I read on vacation, at the pool, on my porch and more. What a luxury to have a little bit of downtime.

Today, I’m sharing the three books I read in July.

This month, I read two books and listened to one book:

{As always, book summaries are from Goodreads…}

Maine Characters:

Summary:

Every summer, Vivian Levy and Lucy Webster spend a month with their father at his lake house — separately. Raised in New York City, Vivian is an ambitious sommelier with a secret that could derail her future. Lucy grew up in a tiny Maine town, where she now teaches high school English while watching her marriage unravel. They’ve never met. While Lucy envied her half-sister from afar, their father kept Vivian in the dark.

When Vivian arrives at the lake to spread his ashes and sell his cabin, she’s shocked to find Lucy there, awaiting his return. In an ideal world, they’d help each other through their grief. Instead, forced to spend the summer together, they fight through a storm of suspicion and hostility to untangle the messy truth about their parents’ pasts. While Lucy is desperate to hold onto the house, Vivian is scrambling after a betrayal. After thirty years apart, is it too late for them to be a family?

Quick Thoughts:

The Parent Trap is one of my favorite movies (the OG Hayley Mills version….the Lohan version is cute too!), so I liked that element of the plot. Another summer book set at a lake…what’s not to love?! While the plot was somewhat predictable in that the sisters started out at odds with each other, their complicated past as well as the extended family and romance provided a well-rounded plot.

Overall, I thought this was a good read!

Rating:

Beach House Rules:

Summary:

When Charlotte Sitterly’s husband is arrested for a white-collar crime, she and her daughter Iris are locked out of their house by the FBI and—what’s potentially even worse—thrust into the spotlight of @JuniperShoresSocialite, the town’s snarky anonymous Instagram account. Cut off from her bank accounts and feeling desperate, Charlotte takes up an acquaintance’s offer to stay at a beachfront former bed-and-breakfast that’s home to a community of single mothers and draws plenty of gossip in the small coastal North Carolina town.

Charlotte and Iris find solace and are surprised by how much fun they’re having with the other families despite their circumstances. But when the women discover a secret link between them, it changes everything they thought they knew about the unconventional family they’ve created and leaves them wondering whether their coming together was a coincidence at all. Will the skeletons in the mommune closets help Charlotte and Iris reclaim their place in the Juniper Shores community—or shatter the sisterhood forever?

Quick Thoughts:

Is it even summer without a Kristy Woodson Harvey book? She’s one of my favorite authors. I thought the concept with the “mommune” was interesting. I will say I felt like the plot jumped from Charlotte and her daughter needing a place to stay to her moving into the beach house with the other ladies seemed to fall into place rather quickly! Also, some of the beach house rules (like no phones) just seemed a bit far fetched to have in place with no one questioning it. The Instagram account was a fun break in between chapters.

Rating:

While this wasn’t my favorite KWH book, I still give it four stars!

Screenshot

The Comeback Summer:

Summary:

Hannah and Libby need a miracle. The PR agency they inherited from their grandmother is losing clients left and right, and the sisters are devastated at the thought of closing. The situation seems hopeless—until in walks Lou, an eccentric self-help guru who is looking for a new PR agency. Her business could solve all their problems—but there’s a catch. Whoever works with Lou must complete a twelve-week challenge as part of her “Crush Your Comfort Zone” program.

Hannah, whose worst nightmare is making small talk with strangers, is challenged to go on twelve first dates. Libby, who once claimed to have period cramps for four weeks straight to get out of gym class, is challenged to compete in an obstacle course race. The challenges begin with Hannah helping Libby train and Libby managing the dating app on her sister’s behalf. They’re both making good progress—until Hannah’s first love rolls into town, and Libby accidentally falls for a guy she’s supposed to be setting up with her sister.

Things get even more complicated when secrets come to light, making the sisters question the one relationship they’ve always counted each other. With their company’s future on the line, they can’t afford to fail. But in trying to make a comeback to honor their grandmother, are they pushing themselves down the wrong path?

Quick Thoughts:

I enjoyed listening to this book as the plot was easy to follow. I liked the unique aspect of the plot and how the sisters are trying to save their company by completing the program…and of course that’s difficult for each of them to do. There was some R rated content in a few of the scenes! This book fell a little flat for me.

Summer Reading Update:

Two months of summer reading and I’ve read six of the nine books on my list:

  • Read: All the Summers in Between, One Golden Summer, Bad Summer People, Maine Characters, Beach House Rules, and The Comeback Summer.
  • On my Kindle ready to read: Seven Summers, The Summer Book Club, and Summer Light on Nantucket

I had hoped to read more than three books this month, but it is what it is I guess. Realistically, with the busyness of back to school in August, I’m guessing I will be lucky to read two books, but we’ll see! The last three books on my list have been downloaded on my Kindle just in time. We’ll see what I can get to this month.

Teacher Talk Tuesday

Hello and happy Tuesday!

I hope your week is off to a great start. Well, this time next week, I will be at an all day professional development with my fellow high school teachers. To say that I’m clinging to summer would be an understatement. That being said, there are a few things I that I actually look forward to when going back to school…buying my new lesson planner and desk calendar as well as setting up my classroom.

This year, I moved rooms! Moving rooms is a headache, but I was able to get a much bigger classroom after a fellow co-worker retired. So, setting up my classroom has meant a bit more than in years past…by a bit more, I mean what used to take about an hour has now totaled about seven hours of classroom set up…so far!

I’m not sure how many educators read my blog, but you might find other uses for my purchases too. Today, I’m sharing some of my recent classroom purchases.

This wall clock is something that I’ve had saved on one of my Amazon lists, and decided this was the year to buy it on Prime Days! I have it all set up, and I love the fun colors.

My new room has a few bookshelves on the wall, and these clear book ends have worked well for my teaching resources.

I saw this game and thought it might be a fun bellringer idea. I haven’t even read the rules…haha!..but the cards have random ideas…anything from pickles to Harry Potter to public speaking. Anyway, I think this would be a great way to get my students thinking…pick five topics, then rank them first to worst and tell me their reasoning. We’ll see how it goes.

I bought these binders last year, and they worked out perfectly for the four English 1 units that I taught. So, I bought the same four pack for my English 2 classes this year. (I have English 1 and English 2 this year)

With the binders, I bought another pack of dividers. I don’t need a full set per binder…just a few tabs.

I was so excited about the next two items…both magnets.

How cute is this magnetic border? I bought two packs, and Hadley helped me and put it around my white board.

Then, I decided to order this pack of colorful whiteboard magnets. Yes, I can erase the whiteboard every day, but some magnets will stay put all year (like the date, agenda, etc), but I can move around the colorful magnets for classes and activities.

Not the best lighting, but here’s my board:

…and magnets:

I have a “comfy” corner with a chair and a lamp. This rug was a good fit for the space.

Thanks to chrome books, we need lots of extension cords and plugs for charging, so I bought this 5 foot power strip…

…as well as this 10 foot one. In my new room, only two of four walls have outlets which means I’m using lots of extension cords and power strips.

I also purchased this magnetic dry erase marker holder. I have two white boards put together, so I figured these would be good at each end of the boards.

This pencil holder was too cute to pass up.

Lastly, I’m cheating on “Happy Planner” with this Hadley Designs planner. I’ve purchased other Hadley Designs things like lunch box notes when the kids were in elementary school, so I knew this would be a good option. My school is moving to the traditional A day/B day block schedule, and the layout of this one seems like what I need.

I also purchased these Hadley Designs parts of speech/writing posters to use to finish up my last bulletin board.

During Prime Days, I also bought the rolling adjustable podium that I’ve had on my list, and Trav just put it together for me. It’s perfect for the front of my classroom. It seems to go in and out of stock, but this is the one that my friend has and it seems the same as what I purchased.

The same friend has these light covers too. How cute! Classroom lighting can be harsh, y’all! I haven’t purchased them yet, but I just might in the future.

Besides Amazon, I picked up a few organizational things at Target and replenished some school supplies at Walmart.

I know this may seem like a lot, but most days, I’m at school more than I’m at home. I like for my room to feel organized, cozy, and a spot that students will enjoy. Also, next year I definitely won’t have to buy as much because I will mostly have what I need for this classroom.

If you are an educator (former or current), I’d love to hear what you teach/taught and how many years you have been/were in the classroom.
